It's good, Sheri, and many people are deficient in it to one degree or another. Your PCP or any of your docs can order a simple blood test to check your Vitamin D level, and you can supplement with D3, if needed. There appears to be a link between low Vitamin D levels and bc. Check out the "natural girls" thread in the Alternatives section here for lots more info, as it's often discussed there. I just saw a surgeon for a lump I found on my chest wall (it ended up being a calcium deposit). The surgeon told me about Vitamin D, I had never heard of it before, but it is something I will be buying very soon! |

Do you breast cancer survivors not do any research for the sake of your own lives? Do you have no original thoughts or ideas? Yahoo or Google "vitD breast cancer journal" and "melatonin tamoxifen journal". Get a GD grip!! Be proactive for your sake if not your daughters..stop praying, start prying.. ..The info is out there. Rx companies are not your friend. VitD3 level s/b 80. The range is 30-100. Demand VitD test. I took 5,000iu VitD3 pills daily for six months - Level was 32. I took 50,000iu pills daily (fifty thousand) for 6 days - Level was 34. I took micellized liquid 25,000iu (twenty-five thousand) for 6 days - Level was 48. Demand re-test at least every month till you get to and maintain level above 50. Diagnosis: 9/20/2008, IBC, 0/12 nodes, ER+/PR+, HER2+ |

If this link doesn't work - try www.medicalnewstoday.com and enter Vitamin D into the search prompt. It will display a list of probably a hundred news and research articles about Vitamin D and related health issues. "Don't let fear of tomorrow rob you of the joy of today."

Sheri, I was diagnosed in 2005 and am still on my 6 month visits. Never did my oncologist talk to me about Vitamin D. I heard about it from a BC sister and I ask my oncologist about it last year - he had started checking Vitamin D levels - just never mentioned it to me. In Oct. 08 my level was 44. The lab used by oncologist feels anything 30 or above is good. I believe, as with many things in BC treatment, it depends on your oncologist and the lab they use. I need to call and check my Vitamin D level from my last visit as it is sent to an outside lab and we don't have the results back at the end of my visit. Talk to your oncologist - make sure your levels are being checked.

I asked my onc about Vit D levels and she said they don't check. I asked a second time and she repeated "I don't check".....so it must be something political at the cancer centre - but I'll ask my GP when I see her in January. BRCA2+ first dx in Oct. 2004 2nd dx Feb. 2009 a new primary
