I have an appt on Monday to get my port removed.  What will they do?  I had the port placed during my bilateral so I have no idea how it was going in.

It is really no big deal. You will either get a "la la" drug or they may put you out. It doesn't take long. You won't beable to shower for a few days unless it is all taped up. I think Advil is all I needed to sleep that 1st night and that was it.

Diana might have had her port removed already but this might be useful for some who are just about to have it done:

After the surgeon (who installed my port) covered the parts that needed to be covered, she disinfected the area around where the port was.

She then proceeded to giving me the numbing injections.  At some point, she asked me if I felt "that" - I think she was gauging if that prick of the needle was going to be the last as if I did not feel anything then she is good to proceed opening me up.

I felt tugging and I heard her say....."you got a boy!!! "  Funny and sweet, my surgeon is.

She stitched me back up, cleaned me up, put surgi strips then gauze bandage on top.

She said I can now buy 10 gallons of milk as I told her that when I had the port, I had a difficulty carrying stuff - like a gallon of milk.

I was told that I can remove the bandage the following day before I take a shower.  The surgi strips stayed a few more days.
