I had to write and get some of these feelings out.  I have been reading this board for the last two months since diagnosis and all of you are wonderful.  I am scheduled for bilateral with tissue expander placement immediately following starting @ 11:30 today.  I have been trying to be strong for my dh and 3 children.  Everyone says it will be ok...will it be??  I guess the anger, frustration and desperation have come and gone somewhat.  But I am still scared.  Thanks for letting me vent.  My children are adults now so I don't worry about them growing up, I am just sad to have burdened them with all of this.  DH is very supportive and tells me not to worry that everything will be ok...I don't feel so confident.  I thought by now I would feel better about this, I found the lump one morning over coffee in bed back in March.  I went to my doctor and they sent me for a mamo which I couldnt get into for a couple of weeks...they did a regular mamo, a diagnostic mamo followed by ultrasound.  I was told "its just a cyst, come back next year". Back at my doctors office a month later my doctor recommended needle aspiration to remove the cyst...yippee all done right, Wrong...no fluid, solid mass ...oh we have to do biopsy...I knew then what the outcome would be.  I was told July 7th that it was IDC and I havent slept much since then.  Trying to line up doctors has been such a hassle but all is set now and I am off to have this nasty cancer removed.  I am terrified, I will not lie.  I havent been in a hospital since Breast Cancer took my mothers life 15 years ago.  Thanks for being here.

Hi Ana,

I felt the same way Wednesday morning when  I had my surgery.  Everyone tells you it will be ok, but there is that little part of you that wonders if they are correct.

Well, here I am, back at home, up by 7 am and ready to get some things done today.  I'm a bit itchy where the stiches are,, but all in all, just fine.

I'll think of you today and will look forward to your next post telling us that it was all OK.  You'll start sleeping better once you get that darn cancer out of you!

Good  luck!!

Hi Ana,

Hang in there. You can get through this. I had a similar experience in 2001 when the radiologist looked me in the eye and told me he was 99.9% sure it was a fibroedenoma. I told him I wanted it removed. He was very insulted. Then the surgeon was condescending! Well turns out it was ADH! Hmmmm. 4 years later, another biopsy, more ADH. 2 years later 2 more biopsies more ADH and DCIS. Had a bilat diep in September. Now I'm almost a year out. How time flies (NOT!) and I'm worried about my one year mammo! Just take it one step at a time and take a deep breath! Let people help you. Take time for yourself. Your outlook on life will change and you will appreciate things differently.

Good karma your way. XOX

Hi everyone, it is now a week later and finally have enough energy to pick up my laptop and let you know I came through ok.  I went through some rough times and all i seem to do is sleep.  But it is a refreshing sleep and my doc says thats ok.  Temp and blood sugars are doing fine so we know the body is getting better.  I had the gauze removed Friday and got a good look at myself Saturday.  Not pretty, but cancer is gone according to my surgeon who has been great.  Plastic surgeon is even better and tells me i am doing great. I will see her again this morning to see if the drains can come out, but i dont think so as i still have too much fluid in a 24 hour period, so probably a few more days.  Thanks for all the good thoughts.

Ana glad you're on the mend!!!

If your drains are outputting a lot of fluid you may be over doing it, so give yourself a break!

Do you have an appt set up with an oncologist?

Hey there,

Anyone have any last words of advice- I'm getting double mast. with recon on thursday morning. ahhhhh soooo freaked out! i've had so many bad experiences at hospitals during my chemo that i'm more afraid of medical staff and their "woops" than having cancer. It's like i want to keep tabs on my surgical team, make sure they're eating well, sleeping well-- devoid of any stress...just so they wont **uck anything up!! neurotic i know, but it's so hard to just put yourself in the hands of these people! anyway, sorry to sound like a bummer...all i can say is that i'm so scared- is this normal?-did you guys feel this vulnerable? thanks ladies, i wish all of you the best of health to come! thank god for this site!

Hi all,

I had been doing farely well and trying not to over do it. But yesterday must have been one of those days I thought I was almost normal until the middle of the night when I woke up to horrible pain on my right side.  I was flat on my back which I never am and tried to roll over, boy was that bad.  I took my meds and was somewhat normal later this morning.  I will try and take it easy.

Ana,

Glad you are through your surgery and wishing you an uneventful recovery. Pain issues post expander placement are often tough, so don't hesitate to take your medicine regularly the first week or two rather than as needed (prn). And, if whatever you were prescribed isn't cutting it, please call and ask for a change in prescription. Taking it easy is a very needed event, considering you had mastectomies and expander placement. Don't forget to ask for help when it's needed. Lots of healthy nutrition and sleep bump your immune system up faster and better too.

Maryam,

By now you must be in the recovery room from your Thursday surgery. WIshes to for you that all went and goes well, and that your time in the hospital is both careful, caring and short. Here is too a good recovery for you.

Hi Ana,

Glad things worked out.  Sorry that you had a bad night last night.  Also, while I know drains are a pain, it is certainly better than letting all of the fluid build up in your body.  I had to have the doctor drain the side of my breast with a needle because the drains came out too early.  Hang in there!

Maryam,

I just came across this post now, so you are probably just getting over your surgery.  My  best wishes for you!!  Let us know how you are feeling when you are up to it!
