I need to see a breast surgeon to have 3 lumps removed. I got recommendations from 3 people for Dr. Susan McManus, but very unfortunately, she is not on my list. I prefer to go to a woman, but more importantly, someone who specializes in breast surgery. Can anyone give me any recommendations? Thank you so much!

Sorry to hear it, P. Where in Central Jersey are you? If you are able to make the schlep to Philly, look into Dr. Dahlia Sataloff. She performed my biospy & lumpectomy and is one of the best in the area. Good luck! |

Hi - My surgeon was from Summit Breast Care. They have offices in Summit and Roseland. I had my surgery at Overlook Hospital in Summit but I believe they also operate at Morristown. Michelle O'Shea was my surgeon. She was recommended by my GYN who I trust implicity. My GYN's daughter went to her as well. O'Shea was good, but I got to meet with Drs. Huston and Addis as well. I thought the other two had better bed-side manner. Not that O'Shea's was bad, but I found the others a bit more sympathetic. I would use them again. O'Shea referred my to my onc whom I really love (Bonnie Gearhart - I think she got married and changed name to Guerin). http://www.breastline.com/index_files/Page24772.htm I had a lumpectomy and re-excision for clear margins. The next year, I had a surgical biopsy (came out negative thankfully). Got cellulitis after the biopsy which was pretty awful. that's when I met the other docs. In the end, the scar is about as good as it could be given the circumstances. Sorry to hear that you need to have the surgery. I wish you the best. purpleladi, sorry you have to have the surgery. i went to mcmanus but Dr Santoro in Livingston, NJ (woman) also came highly recommended but i think she may want $ up front and then put it through your insurance...? Check into it though don't take what i'm saying as truth. what about the cancer institute in brunswick? i didn't like the dr i saw but two other people went there and loved him so maybe you would too? dr kearny. If you need a plastic surgeon please look into Dr Kevin Nini as one of your choices. i had a double mastectomy with latt flap reconstruction and he is such a perfectionist and the office is great. i wish you well. I highly recommend Dr. Deborah Camal who works out of Riverview Medical Center - Red Bank or Monmouth Medical Center - Long Branch. You can GOOGLE her name for office information. "Don't let fear of tomorrow rob you of the joy of today."

Hi, I love Morristown Memorial Ripple Breast Center. They treat the whole patient, not just the cancer, and that really makes a big difference. Otherwise, I've heard from several Dr.s that Montclair Breast Surgery is one of the best in the area. This is the link to their site. Dr. Elliot and Dr. Holwitt's names were mentioned in particular. http://www.montclairbreastcenter.com/index.htm Since we both live so close to NYC maybe you want to go there if it's just for surgery? I originally come from there and know a few very good Dr.s who are highly recommended. If you'd like their names please send me a private msg. However, I should mention if radiation/chemo gets involved, I would go locally. Good Luck with whatever you choose! Diagnosis: 9/30/2009, IDC, 0/1 nodes, ER+/PR-, HER2+ |

I second the motion about Dr. Deborah Camal. She was the first doctor I saw after the mammogram/biopsy diagnosis. She spent over 2 hours with me (at end of day) discussing all of my options and next steps. And guided me to a fantastic plastic surgeon, Dr. Negyn Griffith, who performed a bilat DIEP after Dr. Camal's double mast. I think G-d sent me to Dr. Camal! But actually, it was my sister in law, to whom I will be eternally grateful! Good luck on this journey! You'll be fine.... Thank you ladies - this has been extremely helpful! I'm going to see if any are covered under my insurance, but it sounds like I can't go wrong with any of them. I don't mind traveling to NYC or Philly if that's who my insurance covers and if they are a good doctor. I greatly appreciate all of the responses. Debbie |

Would you believe none of these doctors are on my insurance? I can't believe how difficult this is finding a doctor. I have literally spent 3 hours calling offices and looking online for a breast surgeon. For now, I'm trying to stay in NJ. The only doctors that were listed were Huston, Addis and O'Shea (all in the same office), but Huston is out on medical leave and appointments for the other 2 doctors are not until March. Is it normal to have to wait that long? They have a new doctor there named Tameka White (sp?) and I can get an appt for January, but I can't find any info on her. Has anyone heard of her? |

I can't believe they would make you wait til March. Have you spoken with your insurance and told them that you can't get an appointment until March and would like to get the "in network" rate with a more available doctor who may be out of network? Im going to make some phone calls today and hopefully get in with one of them very soon. I appreciate all your responses! Debbie |

Purpleladi - Good luck with everything. I'm the one who used Summit Breast Care (O'Shea, Addis and Huston). I did have to wait about 3-4 weeks to see them but once I was in, anything else I ever needed was done quickly. March sounds crazy to me. They are also do reconstruction - I wonder if they know it is for lumpectomy that you might get moved up? Best to you with Dr. Kocsis!
