I just had my margins surgery yesterday. Definately not as bad as the original UMX! Great news on all other fronts thought!

Just got back from the doctor for my follow up appointment from my surgery last Friday.
Good news - removed both tumors, healing very well. The doctor commented a couple of times about how great I look, which was nice to hear. Only found cancer in 2-3 out of 15 lymph nodes. Took the cursed drain out - yay!
Not so good news - the margins are close and she wants to go back in and remove some more tissue. But she said it'll be minor surgery, go in through the same incision, etc. and I should be up and around quickly.
Overall, she was very positive about where I am, which was good. The surgery is scheduled for Monday, June 4.
Updated my profile with current information based on the pathology report which still reads partially like Greek to me.
Anyway, that's where I am.

Lifeonitsside - if your doc is very positive, that's a good place to stay!
Soon you will have a plan, and life will get easier.
There may be challenges ahead, but like a sister here once wrote, eventually this will be a bump in the road in your rear-view mirror.

Life- I am having surgery again also on the 4th. They found a new tumor on the prophylactic side near the margins. So, I am having all my nodes removed on that side but only radiation to the near margin (no more tissue removed). Has your doctor suggested radiation instead of surgery? Just curious.

Koenghi, she hasn't suggested radiation. She said the surgery was going to be easy and minimal so I'm optimistic that it'll go quickly and easily.

I am in the same boat. No clear margins from lumpectomy #1. I have my consultation for lumpectomy #2 on June 6th, and I will have it done late June/early July. #1 really wasn't bad so I am anxious to have #2 done.
Glad to hear that you are healing up so well.

my surgeon told me 1 in 3 LX need to be reincised. Seems like a lot to me......but my RO explained that they are essentially going in blind. :( Praying for clean margins for me......

What margin in millimeters does your Dr consider "too close"? 1? less than 1? 2mm?

Mine was 1mm from the margin and now I have to have radiation.

shoot. Mine was 2mm from margin at its closest and they're recommending both chemo and rads since I'm grade 3.
such is the roll of the BC dice...May 31, 2012 01:34 AM Lifeonitsside wrote:
I'm not sure. She didn't mention it specifically but if I'm reading the pathology report correctly, it's within 1mm.
