I'm 40 and a single mom of a 4 year old son. My mom's mother died at a young age of carbon minoxide(sp?) inhalation before she was 40, we don't know if she had any type of cancer. My dad's mom had uterine cancer, my dad's dad died of bone cancer and my mom's dad died of lung cancer. My cousin, although I know that's not a direct relationship has IBC. I also had dense small breasts to begin with. I had Complex Sclerosing Lesion (Radial scar), LCIS, Focal Atypical Ductal Hyperplasia, Columnar cell change, Apocrine Metaplasia and Sclerosing Adenosis from a mass over 5cm in my left breast last year. Since then had a 4cm mass in my right breast which was Sclerosing Adenosis, Columnar cell change and Apocrine Metaplasia. Then this year another right breast mass (3.5cm) was Stromal fibroplasia and Granulomatous reaction. And recently in my left armpit a mass which the Dr. suspected was an enlarged lymph node; was 3.5 cm and was lobules of adipose tissue. I've searched, and seen multiple doctors. My gynecologist, oncologist and a surgeon have recommended a bi-lateral mastectomy. They say an invasive cancer will show up in my right breast. I'm really scared to have a mastectomy done, but also terrified that if I don't I will develop an invasive cancer. Anyone out there had these fears? Any advice, thanks.

We've all had these fears. It's just some of us are good with dealing with the stress of having to be tested every 6 mons. for the rest of their lives and some of us aren't. I fall into the category of not being able to deal with stress. For me having a BM with one step reconstruction was the way to go. The LCIS is GONE.!! I feel great and glad I had the surgery. And the stress is gone. But, it's not for everyone. It's a very tough decision to make. So, get all the info. you can and then decide. If I can help you out send me a private message. Be well, Ann |
