My friend was diagnosed with IDC with postive sentinal node involvement, stage 2, grade 1. She had a partial mastectomy with dissection of three nodes, one of which is positive for carcinoma. Her onc strongly suggests chemo and radiation. Can anyone give advice for her?

I'll tell you what I wish someone had told me (only because I didn't ask) First, her doctor's advice is quite standard. And would be what my doctors would recommend. She needs a copy of her pathology report - There is good news and bad news in her results so far - Grade 1 is slow-growing and non-aggressive - that's the good news. My first guess is that she is stage 2 because of the node results - how big was the tumor. The other thing that she needs to know is ER/PR and Her status. They all affect the treatment plan. Then I would get read the pages on understanding your pathology report on this site, maybe add in a little Susan Love's Breast Book, and ask the oncologist lots of questions! I wish both you and your friend all the best. This is the WORST time! Sue - Lucky to be Krista's Mom

Thank you Sue. There were two masses and they measure 2.1 and .7. She is ER/PR positive. She has alot of questions and is very apprehensive, to say the least. . |
