Feingold: Keep Bush from making 'short-sighted, self-serving' pardons.

The president has virtually unlimited authority to issue pardons for federal crimes, but Feingold says in a Salon.com essay that the president should think of his legacy.

Calif. Supreme Court to take up gay marriage ban

Nov 19, 5:07 PM (ET)

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - California's highest court has agreed to hear legal challenges to a new ban on gay marriage, but is refusing to allow gay couples to resume marrying until it rules.

The California Supreme Court on Wednesday accepted three lawsuits seeking to overturn Proposition 8. The amendment passed this month with 52 percent of the vote. The court did not elaborate on its decision.

All three cases claim the ban abridges the civil rights of a vulnerable minority group. They argue that voters alone did not have the authority to enact such a significant constitutional change.

Cheney, Gonzales Indicted By South Texas Grand Jury

AP | November 18, 2008 04:03 PM

A South Texas grand jury has indicted Vice President Dick Cheney and former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales on charges related to the alleged abuse of prisoners in Willacy County's federal detention centers.

The indictment criticizes Cheney's investment in the Vanguard Group, which holds interests in the private prison companies running the federal detention centers. It accuses Cheney of a conflict of interest and "at least misdemeanor assaults" on detainees by working through the prison companies.

Gonzales is accused of using his position while in office to stop an investigation into abuses at the federal detention centers.

Another indictment charges state Sen. Eddie Lucio Jr. with profiting from his public office by accepting honoraria from prison management companies.

The indictments were first reported by KRGV-TV.

Wow, Bobby Jindal is spot on with the biggest gop problems and his solution ideas sounds like Obama's Campaign Platform:

Jindal: Something Is Wrong With The GOP

As Republicans, we need to do three things to get back on track," he said on CBS' Face The Nation. "Number one, we have got to stop defending the kind of spending and out-of-control spending that we would never tolerate in the other side. You know, when voters tell us that they trust Democrats more to cut their taxes [and] control spending, that tells you something is wrong with the Republican Party. We've got to match our actions with our rhetoric.

"Number two, we've got to stop defending the kinds of corruption we would rightfully criticize in the other party. The week before the election, our most senior senator is convicted on federal charges - and that's only the latest example.

"Number three, we have got to be the party that offers real solutions to the problems that American voters, American families are worried about. We don't need to abandon our conservative principles; we can't just be the 'party of no.' We need to offer real solutions on making health care more affordable, on the economic challenges facing families, on the international threats."

..........................................

Speaking of Stevens (Number Two), looks like he is losing by over 2000 votes now. The GOP took a pass on voting him out today, it seems they want to wait and see if he wins, I guess.

Bush Not Done Endangering Earth Just Yet

In the next few weeks, the Bush administration is expected to relax environmental-protection rules on power plants near national parks, uranium mining near the Grand Canyon and more mountaintop-removal coal mining in Appalachia.

So it seems the 1.2 million jobs lost this year and the 16 trillion dollars lost in the market is not enough for the Bush legacy.

Bush's  pardon list should be a good one, i wonder if he will figure out how to pro-rate it for Rumsfeld and Cheney.

The end of the Bush reign is near, but not near enough for me.
