sports bras with pockets? Thanks, Barbara. I hadn't even noticed the little Search Function on the discussion Boards and limiting the search to this forum found lots of information on the sports bra and Been-A-Boob. Thanks for the tip! Sandra |

sports bras with pockets? There is a sports bra in Canada manufactured by the Been-A-Boob lady. I've been curious about the prothesis, whether it really looks that good..., and would you hear those beads clattering? Although, in the movie on their site they look really natural on the ladies who are on the exercise equipment. Anyway, the mastectomy sports bra with pockets they developed seems to be plenty high enough in front, and under the arms, to be able to exercise without fear of exposure. The prices seem higher than most sport bras. Has anybody bought one of Janac's sport bras or the Been-A-Boob? The URL is: janacsportswear.ca/ |

Bras and breast forms you lovehttp://www.tlcdirect.org/subcategory/FormsForImmediatelyAfterMastectomySurgery.html Hi Wilsope, the above URL address at TLC shows the forms that I wear the most even 2 1/2 years post mastectomy. I had bilateral surgery and don't have to worry about matching sides. The thin layer of foam in the front of the form gives a smooth look, and you can even weigh them down with weights if you want a saggier look. I don't put any polyester fill in the top part, just shake down into the lower, wider portion. These are very inexpensive and I just throw the inexpensive filling away before washing, although you could certainly wash the filler separately. For weights, I use the little weighted pillows from my Bosom Buddies, (although, I think you can get regular weights for this purpose?) and just embed them into the filler at the bottom. Very, very comfortable, and cool! And I wear them to work and they look just fine. Lightweight and no leaking. (I have a pair of Silicone ones, too expensive to wear everyday...I have cats!!!) I also wear my "round" Bosom Buddies and like them. www.bosom buddies.com. I also wear T-shirts, but I am overweight and don't wear them super tight. I think what I like about Bosom Buddies is that you can put as many of the little pillows as you need to get the shape you want. Plus you can get the unweighted pillows to mix with the weighted ones. I never notice a seam from the outside of my bra or shirt. And if you load the pillows right, there really isn't any lumpiness that I noticed. But actually, I use polyester fiberfill in my Bosom Buddies also, because I have yet to order the unweighted pillows and don't like filling my D size with all the weighted ones. They are certainly less expensive than the silicone ones, and as lightweight as one prefers. They told me that you should put the lacy part up where the brastraps are, they also said I could wear them in a regular bra, but they fit fine into my M-framed mastectomy bra, The Bosom Buddies are easy to transport in you luggage, don't look like forms and can put the pillows in a separate little bag and nobody would even know what they are, if looking inside your luggage. But, for extreme comfort, sure can't beat those little TLC forms, you can get different shapes, but I like the triangle. I can mold the fiberfill to fill in just enough to smoothly link up with the lumps under my arms (dog-ears) and not leave a gap. There is a vertical slit in the forms where you stuff the desired fiberfill. I have to be outside in the orchard a lot in the summer, and I never notice being hot from these forms, just have to wash them after sweating into them! Hope this helps when looking for less expensive forms. Sandra |

swimming poofyWell, Jaciruth, you are not the one who is directionally challenged. I tried everything, I was able to do the rolling and tucking and then...what do you pull it through, the hole at the opposite end? Hmmm, that didn't work! Finally, I just somehow, kept the "snowball" in the middle and kinda pulled up the netting around it and up over the top and then twisted. I think might the idea, but I couldn't get it right, and the result was a mess. A friend suggested a technique where you would just wrap the netting around your hand and then pull it through. So, I'm hoping that MB will post those pictures, it's such a great idea! Thanks MB! |

Bathing Suit ProblemsHello MB, Thanks for your description and picture. In order to make a bigger size, I guess you could just sew the ends of 2 or more tubes together and just keep rolling and twisting? I bought the scrubbies at Wal-Mart about a year ago, but could never figure how to keep them from looking lumpy, your idea is great! |

Oily Skin Even Oiler NowHello dst, I also am having oily skin after almost one and a half years on Arimidex. Yes, I'm also dry all over, and am finding that especially in the winter, my facial skin is not moist, but oily. I've always had oily skin except when I went on estrogen (estrace,) then I finally had good skin. Then I had breast cancer and now, with the medication, my estrogen level should be zilch. I'm also getting quite a few more of those beard-like hairs under my chin. I figure it must be the testosterone is high compared to the zero estrogen level. Anyway, I have to use a scrub cream, I use an ultra-Oxyscrub that has salicylic acid and I apply it with a gentle Buf Puff. My skin becomes rough even after one day, but this routine really helps. I also use an astringent with salicylic acid in the morning before make-up. I ran out of Retin-A cream...but that really works better than everything else, and you have to be careful about buffing you skin while you use the cream. I think the point is clearing off the dead skin cells that form on the skin so that oil and dirt doesn't become trapped. Anyway, I totally understand your problem and hope this helps. Sandy |

Bathing suit season soonHello!
I went out to Wal-Mart and found very soft scrubbies that were a peachy, very close to skin color. They were only 98 cents each. I grabbed 4 in this particular color. I'm Alaska Deb's size and have been looking at these scrubbies thinking I will need 2 for each side, especially after trimming. Someone mentioned to cut one side flat and trim the rest of it. Somehow, I just can't get it into my mind how to do this without it all coming apart. I thought of using thread to do a running stitch through two scrubbies thereby attaching them together and perhaps shaping them somewhat and lessening the "bumpy" look. So, which sides are considered the front or back? The things are tied in the middle with a cord which is locked with a little plastic disk. So, maybe that to create the flat back, you would cut one of the ends opposite the tie to make that end flat, but the material could then slip out of the tie easier because that side would then be like a short "pony tail?"...Or maybe, it would be better to cut down both sides to the tie. That's probably it? Even that sounds confusing for a simple thing, I'm not good at describing! I guess I need to just cut one up and see what happens. Maybe one of y'all can explain a little more about the procedure again, for my Arimidex mind! I think this is a really great idea! I'm thinking to put them also into a knee high stocking, as someone mentioned would help the bumpiness. I know I looked funny picking all the peach-toned scrubbies out of the vertical tube display at Wal-Mart, they probably thought I was trying to match my bath decor! Sandy |

No reconstruction- Happy w/your decision?I am 57 and had a bilateral mast March 2006, so it's been over a year now. I was nervous about recurrence and didn't really want radiation. I'm not sure if I'll ever have reconstruction, I think about it, but decided to wait about 5 years after surgery before considering.
The only time I think about having no breasts is when taking a shower and changing bras. I have an excess amount of flesh under the arms that the Dr. left in case I decided later to have reconstruction. I don't like the skin, but if I wear a leisure bra to sleep (I always did anyway, before) and a bra during the day, it holds in the skin, so that I don't notice it much. I just wish the Dr. had told me there would be these "dog ears" because I might have said not to leave that skin. I have talked with her about trimming back some of that skin under one arm, because it's a little annoying. I have numbness under one arm that has been very slowly getting better. Other than what I mentioned, I don't have a problem with no reconstruction. Because I had the bilateral, I've found that I can wear the little TLC soft forms that open in the back to facilitate stuffing with fiberfill. I thought I would like my lightweight silicone forms better, and they do pass the "hug test", but those soft forms feel great even though a "D" size and cheap at $22 a pair. Someone wrote on this site somewhere that most people get reconstruction, I'm just really surprised to hear this and wondering if it's true. So, I can tell you that, for me, no reconstruction is really Ok! I would ask the Dr. beforehand what exactly you will look like afterwards, any extra skin etc. And you can always have reconstruction later if you desire. It sounds as if you have thought out your path carefully and will do just fine with your decision. Sandy |
