Only Your Hairdresser Knows For Sure!

Hi, My name is Sue! I am 1 year done with Chemo. My hair was curly as a child, but turned to just a lot of nice body as I grew up. After chemo I have a head of thick curls. My hair has been cut twice and is still just as curly. Mine didn't come back grey though. I hate all of these curls, but I look at it like this, At least I have hair again and I'm still here.

May God Bless

Sue

today is the big day

First of all, sorry that you had to join this club. Try to relax if you can. What type of chemo are you getting? I did AC every 2 weeks, Taxol every 2 weeks followed with a year of herceptin. The AC was the hardest for me. I lost my hair on day15 after my 1st treatment. They give you great meds to help with nausea. If the meds don't work, tell them. As far as eating, it all depends on you. Also drink a lot of fluids, this really does help. Come here often, everyone here is in this with you!

Right arm numb - I'm so depressed

My arm stayed numb for about a month after the axillary node removal. I had a lumpectomy along with it in May 2006. The back side of my left arm is still a little numb. My surgeon told me to stand by a wall, and with your fingers, walk up the wall 3-4 times a day. abelieve it or not, it really did help.

I WANT MY MOJO BACK!

Hi all. Someone wrote about a pill that is hormone free, that helps with the dryness issue. Does anyone remember what it was and where you can get it?

Chemo

Chemo is usually first, then radiation. I did 4 A/C every 2 weeks, 4 Taxol every 2 weeks and no radiation. Come to this site often, it is a God send. I wish you well!

A month isn't a long time to wait. I had my lumpecomy in may of 06, re-excission in june of 06, a port placement in july and started chemo the end of july. I agree to go to a breast surgeon. I'm sorry she had to join this group, but you couldn't of come to a better place.

After effects, Sentinal Node biopsy today

Clara, Sorry you had to join us. I had a drain in after my snb, so with my first surgery I didn't have any fluid build-up. But after my 2nd surgery for clear margins, I did. Mine wasn't painful, it was just wierd hearing the fluid slosh around. I ended up having to have it drained. Best of wishes.

Is Anyone Starting Chemo In Aug 06

Merry Christmas to all! Last year at this time, I still had to wear my wig for Christmas. This year I have a full head of curls. I'm finally getting my port removed on 1/23/08 and I can't wait!! Does it hurt as much after they take it out, as it did after they put it in? All of my tests have come back Great!!! It is true, what a difference one year makes.

Everyone have a safe and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Starting chemo Dec 2007

First off, I'm sorry all of you had to join this club, but you couldn't of come to a better place! Talk to your ono. doc before getting a flu shot. I wasn't allowed to get a flu shot, while I was on treatment. I did 4dd AC, 4dd Taxol & Herceptin for a year. I started losing my hair on day 15. It really bothered me at first, but you really do get used to it. I only wore my wig on special times. I wore mostly hats and scarves. Drink a lot of fluids before, during and after to flush the chemo thru and always take you nausea meds like they are perscribed.

Best of luck

Question about finishing AC

I  went right from AC to Taxol with no break. Taxol for me, was much easier. I did have the bone pain, but there was no nausea at all. Best of luck!!

Anyone choose to NOT have radiation?? after a lumpectomy??

I refused radiation, but I also had Chemo. I was told, that radiation would damage the upper part of my lungs. I have COPD and can't afford any part of my lungs damaged. Sorry that you are going thru this.

Chemo

They will give you pre-meds before the actual chemo tx, this helps so you don't get sick. You will also get nausea meds to take afterwards. If you take yous nausea meds like they tell you it will help a lot. Take them before the nausea starts. It's doable. Your hair most likely, will fall out. My hair started coming back towards the last of my treatments. Drink a lot of fluids, before, during and after your treatments. This will help to flush them thru you system. Come back to these boards often, it really does help.

Port Complications

It also hurt me more, when my port was put in, than with my lumpectomy, snb and re-excision. I slept in a reclinerb because it was easier for me to get up. After about a week, it was a lot better and I had my first ACtx. Now I am done with chemo and waiting to get the port removed. It sure was a lot easier having the port. It get's better!
