onc says no more chemo

well here i am went for my chemo today been on Gemzar/cisplatin and onc says that as my Liver enzymes are too high and he has a gut feeling the chemos not working that i cannot go onto anymore chemo, my next one was going to be Navebline but he says i cant have it, or should i put it that i could have it but maybe go into liver failure.

after speaking to another patient she had been on the same regime as me and was taken off due to scans showing it had not worked but she had all the same symptoms as me high liver tests , swelling etc.

as you can imagine i came out feeling absolutley gobsmacked even more so as i feel very well in myself, so im going to go to the Royal Marsden in London for a second opinion i cannot give up yet i have two kids who i cant look in the face at the moment as my heart is breaking.

I was on Herceptin only up until christmas and had been for 11 months and just because i waited for a clinical trial to start then to be told i couldnt enter due to being on Herceptin i have just deteriorated with the Liver Tests.

Tummy Drain

Well went for my chemo last Tuesday, and it was put on hold and i was taken to out patients for a tummy drain, as i looked about 7 month pregnant and my stomach was rock hard especially rounfd the sides it was the most uncomftable pain ever.

Anyway they drained 13 litres of fluid off took about two hrs however they said they probably had not got it all and that this was a common procedure for people with Liver Mets.

Anyone else had this procedure done?

is it just me struggling on Cisplatin/Gemzar

I am on Cis[platin /Gemzar and having an absloute nightmare, i look about 5 month pregnant and all my ankles have swollen im exhausted, and cant imagine myself ever feelimng the same again, ive also had constipation so took a stoll softner and as soon as i stop taking them im constipated again.

im beginning to think this chemo does not agree with me and im guessing its the Gemzar rather than the Cisplatin, as i have Liver mets and its supposed to be hard on the liver.

Anyone else suffered with this ive read on another thread that you can suffer with a sore throat etc, believ me id rather have the sore throat.

Distended stomach

Hi Ladies

Do any of you ladies get a distended stomach after your chemo? its now been ten days since my chemo and i still feel and look about 4 month pregnant, chemo does cause me to get constipated so i have finally taken a stool softner which has eased a bit but my stomach and upper abdo has been rock hard for days.

Any Advise....

update on tracey 2424

Hi Luhann

Ask onc today about going back on Herceptin he daid its not licensed here in the uk to do that once it fails it fails, Tykerb is only here in trials at the minute there hoping its passed by NICE in June (yeah watch this space)

Ive been on since May 06 -

A/C did wonders on the breast tumor progression on Liver

Taxotere didnt work at all

Xelodia+Herceptin worked for 10 month best chemo ever for me he took me off and left me on Herceptin only for 10 month due to shrinkage.

Now Cisplatin/Gemzar.

i asked him if i could retry Xelodia he says its tough on liver .

Boy was i willing to try anything in there today.

update on tracey 2424

Hi Ladies

Not been on the boards for a while had a real hard time latley, some may remember i turned yellow and my eyes turned an awful shade of green,so started Cisplatin/Gemzar had round 1 my chemo day is Tuesday and by Saturday was admitted to the hospital my Bil was at its highest was 238, i was discahrged on the Tuesday and asked to go back for my next 3 week cylce to see if my counts had come down, by the friday of the second week my colour was going down and beginning to feel better, when i went back for round 2 much to my oncs suprise my counts had turned a corner and come down to 168 so i had my second round of chemo last Tuesday.

By Saturday the same thing had happened counts rose and turned yellow i have been to see him today and he is saying to me that the only option left is Navebline/Cisplatin and he really isnt sounding very positive i feel sooo down tonight and have done for the past couple weeks.

im really thinking of going for a second opinion .

i suppose what i want to know is has anyone else had good results with Navebline/cisplatin.

i am Her 2 +++ and been on A/C,Taxotere, (Xelodia/ Herceptin which i had great results with for 10 month ) now Gemzar /Cisplatin.

Any experience with Cisplatin

Have any of you ladies been on Cisplatin, i am currently on Cisplatin /Gemzar, i have had one treatment up too now and feel absolutley exhausted and this is supposed to be my good week as my next is due on Tuesday.

I think as far as fatigue goes this is my worst chemo yet im shattered and my stomach on and off feels so uncomftable.

Has anyone else experienced this, is this a hard one on the body?

Hi Luann

He got the results why iwas there it didnt start chemo until he had results, after seeing them he lowered the dose of Gemzar due to the effect on the liver and gave me the normal required dose of Cisplatin.

Hi all

i posted last week due to my eyes being yellow and itchy skin, well i started my chemo Tuesday Gemzar /Cisplatin and there still as yellow am i being impatient as this is freaking me out i look awful, since having Liver mets for the last two yrs i have never had this, i know one of my enzymes was elevated and the onc reduced the dose of the Gemzar until hopefully my enzymes come back to the normal range.

i feel so paranoid .....

Has anyone else experienced this the onc never commented on them when i saw him Tuesday, im currently doing Gemzar/ cisplatin wk 1 and Gemzar alone wk 2 and wk 3 off.

Hi Ladies

All those with Liver Mets are the whites of your eyes turned yellow this is freaking me out i know this is a side effect, but my eyes seem to be turned yellow over night, has this happened to anyone else and if so has it cleared up when chemo has started.

I am due to start back on chemo Tuesday...

Failed Herceptin now onto Gemzar

I said to the onc (his understudy my onc was not there) can i stay on Herceptin he said some oncs would say different but you have progressed on Herceptin so it did not work, well im no expert but i have to agree that ladies do seem to stay on Herceptin with progression so why take me off it,,,

Also last year i was on Xelodia and had two scans showing shrinkage so i was taken off xelodia and kept on Herceptin only i would have prefered to stay on Xelodia as i tolerated that well.

Hi Ladies

i would be intereSted to know how many ladies have taken Herceptin and it has failed after a short time, i have mets to the Liver that have progressed so onc has taken me off it and switched me to Gemzar, i am gutted as Tykerb is not yet licensed here in the UK.

Failed Herceptin now onto Gemzar

Hi

Are there any ladies out there where Herceptin has failed for them i was on it for 8 months and i have progression to liver mets, so onc has taken me off Herceptin and i am now going to start Gemzar after Easter.

Ubfortunatley Tykerb is not yet licenced here in the UK, and not sure it will be onc did not sound too hopeful when i asked him.

I am gutted Herceptin has failed me so soon i thought it would also be my wonder drug for a bit longer like it has been for others.

Got my Trial Info at last...

well today i finally got my Trial info through, after my last scans in January my liver mets showed progression as I had been on Herceptin only for the past 10 month.

Had my last Herceptin on 3rd Feb and then had to be off all treatment for 5 wks to enter the trial.(which has been scary no treatment) The new drug in the phase 3 trial shows promise and has been used for a variety of cancer chemos with good responses, so its now being tryed for Breast.

Its called Eribulin and im due to start next tuesday this is an IV in the arm on Day 1 and Day 8 then two wks offand so on.

Apparently this drug is due for release early 2010.

Hoping this is as easy for me as the Xelodia was.

Anyone else do Xeloda by itself?

HiWatson

I did Xelodia alone for 6 months and it was a very easy chemo for me, just suffered a bit with the hand/foot syndrome.

it also shrunk my liver mets i took this chemo after A/C and Taxotere failed me. and it was the first one to work on me.
