Day to Day Matters + Family Issues for Those Who Have Breast Cancer, Created: Nov 29, 2008 12:54 am
To tell or not to tellI think a problem shared is a problem halved.......is that how it goes? As well as all the worry you have about the op you are worried about keeping things from your family. Your treatment plan probably will depend on the path report etc. The Dr probably won't know for sure until all the results are in. Its a long time to try and keep things to yourself. I'm sure you will feel better after telling them. It was hard telling our children..youngest only 18 months old at the time...he is now 18 YEARS old! Good luck with your decision. jezza Dx 1/1992, <1cm, Stage I, Grade 3, 0/ nodes |

Worst Thing Someone Said To You?I was going home after having my first mastectomy and a nurse (who was very nice actually) asked me how I was feeling. I said"still pretty devastated'..or something like that.... She said..."oh you'll be ok...I've often thought about it and it wouldn't worry me at all if I had to loose a breast."......hello????...not even a little bit?? I think she was trying to be reassuring............... jezza Dx 1/1992, <1cm, Stage I, Grade 3, 0/ nodes |

So, so frightened.Hi James! I saw that you joined the Aussie Forum.....I have posted a reply there in Welcomes and Birthdays. I had a double mastectomy in 1992. This is the hardest part I'm sure..the shock and the waiting. Hugs to you both jezza Dx 1/1992, <1cm, Stage I, Grade 3, 0/ nodes |

MexaltrexateHi John I don't post that often but I read the forums most days. I always read Deb's posts. She has such a way with words! I have been following her story and hate that she is going through all this. So pleased to read your post and to see that she is a little better. I guess I just wanted you to know that ppl are thinking about her and wishing her well as far away as Australia. She has touched so many! Hugs jezza Dx 1/1992, <1cm, Stage I, Grade 3, 0/ nodes |

Oliva Newton JohnI was in hospital after having my 2nd mastectomy when I heard that ONJ had been dx with breast cancer. I heard an interview with her a few months ago ( I am in Australia) where she said that she was dx with bc on the same day that her father had died from liver cancer. She said that she had surgery and chemo but didn't say what stage. She said she didn't tell her young daughter that she had cancer as her daughter's best friend had recently died from cancer and knew that it would terrify her. Maybe this is where the "keeping it quiet" story came from. Unfortunately her daughter found out from school friends.Maybe in hindsight she wouldn't have done this...but she just did what she though best at such an awful time. She puts SO much effort into raising money for bc. Her hospital here in Melbourne is going to have a holistic approach to treatment..conventional as well as natural I believe. I really admire her. jezza Dx 1/1992, <1cm, Stage I, Grade 3, 0/ nodes |

Abbreviations for newbies! We have a list on our Australian forum and the mods have made it a "sticky" (can't be moved). A list of abbreviations is a great idea but it will sink pretty quickly unless it is constantly bumped. Anyway jezza Dx 1/1992, <1cm, Stage I, Grade 3, 0/ nodes |
