Angels List

I think that a list of angels from 2004-2007 would be great! I haven't been around the last few months and this is where I looked to see if anyone had passed in the interim.

Don't know anything about any controversy. I know I'd like to see it.

Thanks!

Yes, Mary Jane, this beast gives perspective, if nothing else! Congratulations on your soon to be 4 year anniversary!

Yes, it was 4 years ago this month I joined the club. Two doctors (good ones!) told me I had a cyst but of course, get your yearly mammogram. I had a 3.7cm tumor in my left breast.

Lumpectomy, axillary node dissection, 6 months of chemo, 7 weeks of radiation, and participant in the herceptin trial made my active treatment last 1.25 years. Now I'm on arimidex.

Ladies, you can do this if you have to. I certainly wouldn't have volunteered for this honor and there were plenty of times I thought I couldn't go on with my treatment. (But then I found out others went through much worst than me.)

This site is wonderful. It's gotten me through a lot. I remember reading someone's question about what the first chemo would be like and then anxiously reading the replies because my first time was going to be soon, too. The fellowship (sistership? ) of talking to others who know just what you're going through is priceless.

You can do this, even if it's while you're kicking and screaming. There is a *different* life (we'll never be the same because we've gone throught this) for you when you're done. Enjoy it!

HELP - Elevated Alkaline Phosphatase (serum)

My Alk Phos levels have been elevated since I finished chemo. I think they're about 180 or 190. The important thing is that they're consistent year to year. I did have an abdominal CT to double check it the first time and everything was fine.

What is the recovery like?

My stereotactic biopsy was a piece of cake. That's the trouble asking others what their experience was - they're all over the map! :-)

My lumpectomy included an axillary node dissection so I had a drain for about a week or so. Everything healed pretty nicely.

Good luck!

Letter to Dr - requesting biopsy - comments?

Here's another vote for just calling the doctor. Just say you've thought it over and you'd now like to do what he suggested, get it excised, and did he have a recommendation for a surgeon.

Good luck!

TIME TO CIRCLE THE WAGONS GIRLS

I'm bringing my wagon in from Maryland. I comes complete with a hot tub so if anyone has any aches and pains from all that ridin' and roping, set yourself a spell.

Peace to all our sisters.

Re: Bios of BC Survivors

My name is Sally and I'm almost 48 years old. I live in Bethesda, Maryland.

I had my regular mammogram scheduled for 7/03, right after getting back from vacation. Mind you, my ob/gyn and my regular doc had found this 'cyst' in my left breast several months before. Both docs thought it was a cyst. After the mammo and then ultrasound, I was told that it was probably cancer. That was a Thursday. That Monday I saw the surgeon for a biopsy. Between the mammo and the biopsy, I felt a lump under my arm. July 27, 2003 was the day I was told it was definitely breast cancer.

Lumpectomy soon after that. He did an axillary node dissection since I already had the swollen node. (I now know that there were some more suspicious spots on the mammo - it thought multiple nodes were involved.)

3.7 cm tumor IDC
1/15 nodes positive
ER+/PR+
Grade 3
Stage 2b
Her2neu +++

Got into see a great oncologist. She suggested that I try for a clinical trial for node positive her2neu positive women. I got into it and into the arm (of 3) that I wanted.

4 a/c 3 weeks apart
12 weekly taxols with herceptin
40 more weekly herceptins
35 rads

I've got 16 more herceptins to go! I just had my one year mammogram a few weeks ago and it was clean.

I'm planning on surviving for a looooooooong time!
