girls early or late 30's diagnosed with breast cancer

Hi ladies, I was dx'd in 2006 at age 37.  Been healthy all my life then BAM!  Hit with the big C-stick.  At the time my boys were 6 and 8.  Went through excisional biopsy, re-excision, SNB, port placement, 4 rounds of AC, 12 rounds of taxol+herceptin, finished a year of herceptin, did 7 weeks of rads, and am now on tamoxifen for 5 years.  I am doing well except that every ache and pain scares the hell out of me!

I agree with BethNY...BC sucks at any age...we all have a lot to live for and we will keep fighting!

Question on finger and foot pain/tingling

I posted this question at NoSurrenderBreastCancerHelp.com, too.  It has been worrying me for a couple of weeks now.  I don't know if it is really something to worry about or just to chalk it up to s/e's.

Quick background....dx'd 6/2006, ER-neg/PR-slightly-pos/HER2-off-the-charts-pos.  Went through surgery, chemo, rads over a year ago.  My last AC was in Dec 2006.  My last taxol/herceptin was in March 2007.  My last herceptin-only was in October 2007.  I have been on tamoxifen (20mg/day) for about a year now.  Been dealing with hot flashes, which seems to be the main s/e for me, although they have lessened a bit over the last few months.

A few weeks ago I started having pain in my fingers.  It is weird, when I am not touching anything, it is more like a tingly pins and needles thing.  But, in certain areas, even the lightest touch is really painful.  Some areas are consistently painful to the touch, but some other areas come and go.  It seems to have been getting a little worse over the last week, but maybe that is because I am thinking about it and looking for it now.  I never really had neuropathy with the taxol, but I am thinking this is maybe what it would have felt like?  I am over a year out from my taxol treatments so I don't think that could be it, or could it?  It is weighing on my mind and I am all stressed out as a result!  Do you think I should call my onc?  Or my GP?  Or wait a while and see what happens?

Funny part...the good news is I am no longer focusing on a pain I have been having in my rib (which seems to be getting better anyway...I guess I pulled a muscle or something).  It is like my mom used to do when I would tell her I had a headache or something...she would tease me by telling me she could cure my headache, and then indicate for me to let her stomp on my foot!  (That way, my foot pain would take my mind off the headache...sounds awful, but it made me laugh!  And that did help the headache sometimes!)

Thanks in advance for anything you can share!

PINKSTOCK 2008

Hey all!

Quickly stopping in to let you all know that I made DVDs of the 'Concert on the Hill' and I have a few extra if anyone is interested!  Just PM me your snail mail address and I will get it in the mail to you ASAP!

This is the first time I have used this videocamera and then tried to make a DVD out of it, and I realize now that the software I was been using is not the best.  But I think it turned out fairly decent in spite of that, and it includes all the songs we did except for one (which I took out because it was a bit of a train wreck!  LOL!)

BMD - how many days until Pinkstock '09?  LOL!

Amy, I haven't talked with you in a while but I heard you had some new challenges on your plate and I had to come over and offer my support.  I don't have any words of wisdom but I am thinking about you and pulling for you to hang in there and beat this beast back into submission!  I am a fellow HER2 girl and was about the same age when dx'd as you were, so I have always felt a connection with you as a result!

PINKSTOCK 2008 PICS

I posted this on the other Pinkstock thread before I saw this one, so sorry if it is a repeat for some of you!

Here are the videos from the 'Concert on the Hill' that I posted on youtube.

My apologies that the video and audio is not the greatest, but it will give you an idea anyway!  I am the one on the right, my DH Greg is in the middle, and my friend Maureen is on the left playing guitar.  Her DH Al plays percussion but you can't really see him because he is kind of behind Maureen (he is a little shy).

Enjoy!  I am going to try to post a couple more tonight!

PINKSTOCK 2008

Brenda/Naniam, I am staying at Best Western as well!!

So I wonder how many people we have so far?  It is so exciting to think about getting to meet everyone in person!

Posted this at the Hamptons but will post here as well....this is a list of some of the cover songs we were thinking of doing...of course we will do some songs from our CD as well!  And we are working on 'Do You Know The Way To Ischua' (and hopefully we are pronouncing it right!  LOL)

Closer to Fine - Indigo Girls
Crazy Love - Poco
Dust In the Wind - Kansas
Helplessly Hoping - Crosby Stills and Nash
Landslide - Stevie Nicks
Falling Slowly (from the 2007 movie 'Once')
Ob-la-di-ob-la-da - Beatles
Secure Yourself - Indigo Girls
Killing Me Softly
California Dreamin' - The Mamas and the Papas
Summer Breeze - Seals and Crofts
Teach Your Children - Crosby Still and Nash
I Want to Hold Your Hand - Beatles
In My Room - Beach Boys
Homeward Bound - Simon and Garfunkel
Stumbling Through the Dark - Jayhawks
Airplane - Indigo Girls
Send a Message to My Heart - Dwight Yoakum (DH and I do this as a duet!)
Sounds of Silence - Simon and Garfunkel
Let It Be - Beatles
Give A Little Bit - Supertramp (I think)
Leavin' On a Jet Plan - Peter Paul and Mary
Five O'Clock World
Time After Time - Cyndi Lauper
Will I see You in Heaven - Jayhawks
If You Want Me (from the movie 'Once')
If I Fell - Beatles
Tin Man - America

Hopefully lots of people know lots of these songs...I know there are a few esoteric ones (but I think you will like them also!).  Not sure how long of a concert it will be, so let me know if there are any songs in there that are MUST-HAVEs and we will put them in the top of the line-up!

Tamox induced menopause????

Colleen,

Sorry to hear you have had such a hard time with the tamox!  I wonder if my gyn will want to test my estrogen...my onc didn't seem to feel the need but I will keep bringing it up!

You bring up a good point about taking it every other day...I wonder if a lesser dose taken every day would also help with the side effects?

BTW, my onc did mention that the fact that I was getting such intense hot flashes was a good thing...means my body is metabolizing the tamox in such a way that I will get benefit from it.  Although, apparently NOT having hot flashes does not mean that someone is not benefitting...it is just that the hot flashes are a confirmation.

Tamox induced menopause????

Kimber, glad to hear that you are not having unpleasant side effects!  The hot flashes are enough to make me want to climb the wall sometimes.  I have tried effexor and lexapro, but they both made me spacey and I couldn't continue to take them.  Good luck to you!!

AWB, it just figures I would be in the 25%.  Seems like I have been an oddball in lots of areas on this journey...from tumor location, to pathology (HER2+/ER-/PR very slightly + ...I don't know anyone else with that combo!!) to side effects.  Thanks for the info!

Tamox induced menopause????

Thanks, ladies, this discussion is really helpful for me!  I have read online that tamoxifen can stop your periods even if you are pre-menopausal, and that even if that happens, you are still fertile! That is really good to know (I love my kids but I don't want any more of them!  LOL)

Bluesky, I am with you, I don't want them back but at the same time I just really wonder what is going on with my body!

Anyway, I don't see my onc for another 5 months, but I have an OB/GYN appointment coming up soon so I will ask about it there as well.

Tamox induced menopause????

Yes, it would be nice to know!  I will ask for a blood test.  I guess I don't quite believe my onc when he says that missing periods is not a side effect of tamoxifen...but maybe I am just in denial!  Wouldn't be the first time HAHA.  Laughing

Thanks Blinx and Dazed!

Yes, this is happening for me also!

Tamox induced menopause????

Hey ladies!

I have been on tamoxifen since the beginning of November 2007.  I am 39 years old...was 37 at dx.  I did experience chemo-pause during AC, but my period came back when I started the taxol/herceptin phase of my treatment in Jan '07 and I had regular periods all through the herceptin-only phase, which continued through Oct '07.  Started tamox in November, had one more period, and that was it.

My onc says maybe I may be in menopause, but that it wouldn't have been caused by the tamoxifen.  Whaaaat???  I am only 39!  And it seems like an awfully big coincidence that I had regular periods until I started taking tamoxifen, and then they just completely stopped (no tapering off, no irregularity, they just came to a screeching halt!!).

Anyone experience this as well?

*Hugs*

TIME TO CIRCLE THE WAGONS GIRLS

Hi ladies, I don't really understand what is going on (I guess I haven't been paying close enough attention, which is my bad).  It does make me worry and wonder if I have offended anyone without even realizing it...I sure hope not, but if I have, please know that it was not intended.

TIME TO CIRCLE THE WAGONS GIRLS

Hey everyone, stopping by to say hi!  I have a few minutes before church...

Yesterday took the kids to Spring Mountain to go snow tubing.  I have never been tubing before (I am not much of a winter sports person...I like the beach and the WARM sun!!) but we had a great time!  My 8 year old went down once but then I couldn't get him back on the tube...so DH and I took turns staying with him in the lodge.  But my 10 year old kept at it for 4 hours!  My arms are so SO sore today from hanging on to the tube for dear life!!  LOL!

Thinking of you all and hoping all is well!
