Nutri System?Julie, I am on my seventh week of Nutrisystem. It has been a slow loss but at least I am losing. I have lost 10 pounds so far and love the program. I feel like I am on a vacation from cooking which is good since we are having our kitchen renovated. I would like to lose 17 more pounds. At this rate it will probabaly take me three more months but I didn't gain this over night either. It just feels great to be going in the right direction. Good luck if you decided to go on the program with you sister. Joy

Nutri System?I agree it would be cheaper to just do it alone, but one of the great things about Nutrisystem is that it does teach you portion control and forces you to eat those fruits, vegetables, and diary that would be too easy to just replace with a candy bar if you were just counting calories. I have also compared many of the "diet meals" that are available in the stores and they do not come even close to providing the same amount of protein. I am very glad that some people can just count calories and lose, but I am also happy for a program that is well rounded and preparing me for better understanding how to eat once I reach my goal. For me the money is well spent since I have been struggling with these 20 extra pounds for two years. With that said I do hope I can educated myself during this time and learn to be a healthy calorie counter. Maybe I just needed to spend the money for a couple of months to wake myself up. Joy

Nutri System?Well, first week down and I actually enjoyed the food. I feel like I am getting a vacation from cooking. I also lost four pounds the first week which is a plus. My husband lost almost five pounds and is having no trouble with hungry since men get to add in extra protein. He is also eating more fruits and vegetables than usual. Joy

Nutri System? Thanks for reminding me about the soy. I took about an hour today to go through all the food items and was able to find quite a few that do not contain soy. This month I will trade as many of the items as I can with my husband and pay close attention next month when I order. First weigh in will be on Thursday. So far the food is very good and is great for portion control training. Joy

Nutri System? We received our food in about 5 days and started the program on Thursday. We both decided to just go with the favorites this first time so that we would be eating the same food. So far we have liked everything and it is so great to not have to give any thought during the day as to what we will have for dinner. We spread everything out on the counter and then filled 7 zip lock bags with the food for each day. We have not been hungry at all. I look forward to our first weigh in which will be on Wednesday. Will keep everyone posted. Joy

Nutri System? My husband and I just signed up today for Nutrisystem. We both need to lose weight however I need to lose the most. I managed to lose the chemo weight but started putting it back on when I switched to Arimidex about 20 months ago. We decided that we needed help in understanding portion control, plus this seem like a perfect time since we both want to do it, and we are having the kitchen remodeled soon and will only have the use of a microwave. We will receive our first order in 4 to 10 days. I am looking forward to passing on great results. Joy

Tests, Treatments & Side Effects + Lymphedema After Surgery, Created: Feb 8, 2007 12:41 pm
Flexitouch system?Great response! I don't have much to add except that I have been using my flexitouch since July and I love it. It is such a relaxing hour and really helps with the lymphedema, especially in my hand which is my problem area. My insurance paid the full amount since I had already met my total deductible because of a couple of hospital visits. They are a very easy company to work with and were very helpful. When I received my unit someone came to my home to teach me the proper way to use the machine and fitted it for me. Hopefully this helps you. Joy

i can't believe itLinda. Thanks for the great suggestions. You have given me a lot to talk over with my therapist tomorrow. Yes the glove and sleeve are new. They are a custom made BioConcepts but of course even that does not mean some adjustment might need to be made for a proper fit. I did wear both of them yesterday and did the wonderful wrapping last night for 12 hours. The hand was swollen last night but feels and looks better today after the wrapping.
I was wondering how difficult it is to get the glove on over the tape. Since they are tight to begin with does this cause a real struggle? None of this is easy. Thanks everyone for the support and comments. Joy |

i can't believe itDoes anyone just wear a glove for their hand. Most of my swelling is located at the base of the fingers and on the back of the hand. I just completed my therapy and received my custom glove and sleeve. It seems that the overlapping area of the two garments causes my hand to swell even more. Yesterday I just used the glove (yes my hand was slighty swollen last night) and then I wrapped the hand and arm for the night. While it was not totally gone it was down and soft. I see the therapist again on Monday but she is always interested in what seems to work for different people - so please give me some feed back to take to her. Joy

Tests, Treatments & Side Effects + Lymphedema After Surgery, Created: Nov 29, 2006 05:50 am
I hate this problemOver the past three months I have had three types of surgery. I had my knees cleaned up from arthritis and some legiment damage. Next I had reconstruction of my good breast to make it match my other one. Then I had a skin cancer removed from my good arm. About three weeks after the knee surgery my lymphedema returned in my right arm and hand (mainly in the hand). I saw a local therapist for two weeks and she was not able to get anywhere with the wrapping. After a two week delay I was able to get into my regular PT who is located an hour away but works for the cancer center. She tried for two weeks with no luck but started getting concerned about a red area near the top of my three middle fingers. She sent me to the infectious disease doctor who decided it was a staph infection. I had already been on antibotics for 5 weeks straight because of the other surgeries. The doctor sent me for an antibotic infusion and swithed me to a different medicine for the next three weeks. If there is no improvement I will have to go into the hospital for about 5 days of IV treatment. It is the end of week two and I see no change except that my hand keeps getting larger because they can give me no treatment during this time. I am allowed to sleep in my night garment and lightly wrap my hand during the day but this is not helping much.
A lot of complaing I know but I felt you would all understand how low I feel right now. I can get very little done because it is my right hand (or paw as I call it) and it is very swollen and hurts. Poor Me Joy |
