ShinglesI have had shingles 4x's this yr. They are painful and all I can do is take Acyclovir and Advil. I cannot have the shingles vax, as my liver is compromised. It is supposedly uncommon to get them more than once, but as an immunocompromised person, I guess its normal. I pray never to get them again! OUCH. Did you start you rads GDN? Let us know how its going.. Prayers ¤PeachyMarie§¤ |

crapola! can you believe shingles again?Hi Kimmie, hugs... i can relate totally. I was once told that shingles could only happen ONCE.. I beg to differ and my docs say in immunocompromised patients like cancer patients, it can happen more often.. I normally dont post here, as Im not in the mets arena (yet), but I wanted to offer my experience, hope it helps. I started getting shingles (around my hip) shortly after starting interferon tx's (which is supposed to boost your immune system).. what happened to me was my immune system went haywire. I get about 4 outbreaks a yr. for the past 7 yrs. Its always the same and it really gets painful. I get the whole body thing with headache, the nerves in the area affected, etc..I take Acyclovir during attacks 800mgs a day until resolved. I wish I could stay on chronic therapy, but these drugs are hard on the liver. I have liver dis. Also, I use Zovirax cream on the blisters and that seems to help, along with Tylenol and Advil (cant take pain meds either, allergic).. I would ask my onco about getting on the Acyclovir, it really shortens the duration and pain. ps-the vaccine is for ppl over 60 with healthy livers. I dont know all the details except that Im not eligible.. Blessings and peace, ¤PeachyMarie§¤ |

Question regarding MedicareI have Medicare parts A&B. A is for hospital and B is for doctor visits. You should have gotten or will get a copy of the Medicare handbook for this yr. It gives you choices for the part D drug coverages as well. You can also ask your pharmacy about which ones are available. As far as secondary medical coverage (HMO or PPO) you can research companies that sell individual insurance policies. I have BCBS as my secondary provided by my former employer. Best of luck ¤PeachyMarie§¤ |

Anyone on Male Hormones?Hi Annie, Im sorry that your having to go thru such a hard time. I have read about androxy and it appears that its use in advanced breast cancer is limited to women who are 1-5 yrs post menopausal. In the same literature it says do NOT use if you have breast cancer, so I'm a little confused. I know it states it is not known how it works to treat breast cancer. I pray that your team will find a combo or single drug that works for you..my husband was dx with a t3c tumor (prostate) and is on ANTI androgen therapy, so Im not sure how androxy plays into treating breast cancer.. This antihormonal thing has me dizzy. I am on Femara for my er/pr+ bc.. Blessings, ¤PeachyMarie§¤ |

If you have just been diagnosed....Your sister is right Libby . Research your doctors, hospitals and best treatment facilities in your area. The treatments today are not at all like way back when and cancer is become more like a "chronic condition" these days. NOT to downplay its seriousness, but you'll be surprised at how well most people do on treatments. The variety of treatments has also come very far over the yrs. My sister in law was diagnosed with stage IV and is still doing well 8 yrs later.Get more than one surgical & oncology opinion also, it helps put things into perspective. You have to like your doctors as well, and feel completely safe and comfortable in their hands. I found comfort in doing that. As far as getting those feelings you have, completely normal. Its a shock to find out its not someone else, but you! Blessings, ¤PeachyMarie§¤ |

MonicaDear Marietjie, I came to check on a friend and saw your post about your darling daughter Monica. I am so very sorry for your loss. My mother lost her youngest son at 40, which is still too young, but I have a son your daughters age, I would not comprehend what you are feeling. May she be in eternal peace. God Bless you and your family at this most difficult time. ¤PeachyMarie§¤ |

IDC TubularUpdate~~~ I dont have "pure tubular" idc according to a second opinion that I just got this past wk. A well renowned pathologist just sent me an addendum to the 06' report. Totally different. It states, IDC of no specific type (NOS) mammary carcinoma, tubulolobular features with alh invading the ducts and lobules. Positive margins containing invasive carcinoma and alh. there is NO adh anywhere in this pathology nor is there DCIS. So in essence, ,its IDC with some lobular features?--LOL now, Im really confused. the one thing I know is that its not pure ILC either, because its positive for e-cadherin which is almost always(almost being the key word), absent in ilc..ok, thats confusing too. Wont change my tx any tho..thank God.. I was thinkin' the next thing they'd tell me is that my receptors were different..thats the same. Have to google the tubulolobular ( thats a mouthfull).. thanks gals.. Hugs. ¤PeachyMarie§¤ |
