Dear teachgrade3:

Sorry to hear you are faced with the decision on whether to do chemo or not.  Two years ago, I was faced with the same decision.  The best advice I can give is to continue reading as many discussions on this website as you can regarding the subject, listen to the statistics your dr is giving you and then follow your gut instinct.  It's an EXTREMELY hard decision and a very personal one.  Good luck to you whatever you decide.

hi everybody!

stef - so good to hear from you - i like the part about boycotting cancer.....me, too!  i second mary's recommendation on the daVinci since i had it in sept - hope all continues to go well with you.

mary - i knew you'd do great - mind the doc!!!!!  i can lift now but can still tell i had some work done on my pelvic region at 11 weeks out - just go slow and enjoy the time off.  i'm still into walking and gently getting back into yoga......and eating.....i need to stop it.!!!!

dottie - you are such a hoot!  glad to hear you had fun on your trip.  we do need to plan a get together so we can all have fun together.

sunny fl is wonderful so you gals let me know when you'd like to plan a get together

i'm in the mtns of nc today and we're expecting snow showers tonight.  my ds (8 yrs old) wants to "see snow fall from the sky".  he got to go skiing yesterday for the 1st time with one of his best friends.  Today he is taking easy because he has a stomach virus.

happy thanksgiving everyone - so thankful for all of you!

Ladies - I have a good friend who rents her condo on the beach at Sanibel!!!!!  If everyone is serious about a get together there, I'm sure she'll rent it for a DEEPLY discounted rate.  Let's choose a date!

Mary - My thoughts and prayers are with you - the anticipation of the DaVinci surgery was the worst for me - I wasn't that nervous about the mastectomy at all.  Please keep us updated on how you're doing.

Take care everyone!

Carolyn - I second Maureen's suggestion on Sanibel Island - it's about 40 miles from my house and I LOVE it!!!!  Captiva is located just north of Sanibel and is also beautiful.  My husband and I honeymooned on Sanibel and it's wonderful.  It enticed us to move from the east coast of FL to the west coast and we have NO regrets.

Mary - Thinking of you and your upcoming surgery.  Best of luck to you!!!!

Dottie - hope you had a great time on your trip - if your onco picks an AI with no side effects, let me know what it is - I'm day 10 on Arimidex and have had some slight SE's.  Stiffness and bone/joint pain - kind of feels like a slight version of the effects of Taxol.  BC SUCKS!!!!!  I went to "Silver Sneakers" yoga today to try to work back into it easily after my surgery.  I'm hoping it will help with the stiffness and bone/joint pain.

Carol - so glad to see you post again.  I have been wondering how you are doing.  I'm trying to follow your advice on getting up in the a.m.

Jo - sorry to hear about your friend.  I say a prayer everynight for all our "sisters" who are plagued with this sucky disease and anyother disease for that matter.

Maureen - I like your name change!  Glad to hear you had a great trip - sounds wonderful.

I'm going to NC for Thanksgiving and are looking forward to visiting with family/friends.

Take care everybody!

Arimidex - negligible side effects?

I started taking Arimidex ten days ago and have noticed that my fingers feel stiff, some stiffness in my feet when getting up from a sitting position and some back/spine pain.  I did chemo 2 yrs ago - AC/T and my slight symptoms feel like I'm on Taxol again.  I'm trying to keep on keeping on and remain positive about this drug but I may break down and call my oncologist's NP and report my symptoms.  I'd like to try another AI and will resort to Tamoxifen again if the AI's are intolerable.  BC sucks!!!!

Hi everybody:

Beth - sorry to hear about your neighbor....hugs to her during this difficult time.....good to hear from you.

Dottie - have fun on your trip - enjoy the warm weather.

Jo - I started taking Arimidex this past Sun (was waiting until I got over a nasty cold I caught while in NC) and so far I'm doing fine - how long had you been taking it when you noticed the side effects?

Mary - How are you doing?  Getting ready for your surgery?  Let me know if you have any questions.  I'm doing OK - trying to ease back into the normal routine which means lifting, exercising, etc.  I've had a couple of incidents where I've had to back off on the activity but all in all everything is fine.

Carol and Maureen - hope all is well with you.

It will definitely be nice to have this election stuff behind us - I'm tired of all the mud slinging!

Take care everybody!

Hello everyone!

Carolyn - great news!!!!  I'm sure you are so relieved.

Went to my dr for post op appt this past week and he says everything looks great and that I need to follow restrictions for 2-3 more weeks.  I'm feeling better but still tired from time to time.

Getting ready to go to  NC tomorrow for a week.  I'm looking forward to cooler temperatures and colorful leaves!

Hope everyone is doing great!

Hi Mary - WHOA that does sound scary.  Glad to hear your scare was due to infection or inflammation.  I simply HATE it when cancer hijacks our every thought!

As far as your surgery goes, I would say you should be up for a two hour car trip 5 days post op.  I was out of the house by that time - went to a friend's house and sat around for about 3 hours.  I'm very happy with how the surgery went and the recovery period, although, I'm ready to dive back into everything full force.  I have except for lifting and exercise other than walking.  My major complaint now is that I want to do yoga and I get tired from time to time.  A quick cat nap usually solves the problem.  I go back for my 1st followup appointment next Wed so I'm curious if all restrictions will be lifted.  If you want to talk as your date gets closer, feel free to call me - if you need my #'s just PM me.

Dottie - I miss you, too.  I bet you are out having LOTS of fun.

Carolyn - Keep us posted!

Take care everybody.

Florida People WHERE R U?

Hi Elaine:

I don't frequent these boards much anymore, either.  Sorry I will miss the conference.  October is way too busy for me - ds's birthday party this weekend, friends birthday, going to NC for a visit.  Hope you guys are able to get together and have fun!!!!

I just had a Davinci robotic hysterectomy 4 weeks ago - great recovery so far.  Can do most everything except exercise and lift.

Tell everyone I said hello!

Carolyn - I'm sending prayers and positive thoughts that your test comes out OK.

Camping and the fair sound like fun.  I do miss all the fun fall festivities from when I grew up in NC.  The price I pay for living in sunny FL - I love it, too!

Keep us posted on how you are doing.

Knock, knock.....where is everybody?

Hope everyone is enjoying the fall weather.  It's still hot here in SW FL but we've had a few cool mornings and are looking forward to cooler weather within the month.

I'm gearing up for my ds's 8th birthday party this weekend.  He's having it at a roller rink so that should be fun!!!  I'm still recovering from my hysterectomy but it has been very easy except for the "no lifting" restriction....it's hard to ask someone to do something for you.   I'm doing almost everything I normally do except yoga and other types of exercise.  I'm walking everyday to try to keep in shape.

Hope all of you are well.....can you believe we're coming up on the 2 yr anniversary?   Glad to know it's a distant reminder.

Take care everybody!

Post Chemo Spa & Shape Up

Hello to everyone:

It's been a LONG time since I've posted.  I spent a busy summer with my son who's 7 years old.  This year he decided to do camp two weeks and was home the rest of the time.  We spent lots of time swimming, spending time with friends and going to the movies.  We travelled to NC to visit family and friends.  I didn't get to work out very much while he was off but did make it to water aerobics and yoga on a periodic basis.  I am REALLY getting into yoga.  I can't get enough of it.  I feel so strong afterwards because it's strengthening my core muscles but am taking a break because of my recent surgery.

I had a Da Vinci hysterectomy on 9/08/08 and am at home recovering.  I'm 11 days post op and recoverying well.  I'm walking as much as possible and trying to follow the lifting restrictions.  I did the hysterectomy based upon the recommendation of my oncologist to do an oopherectomy so I can start taking an AI.  My surgeon recommended a full hysterectomy since I'd been taking Tamoxifen.  I did end up having a fibroid and cyst removed from my stomach.  I got a CLEAN pathology report earlier this week so I've been jumping for joy.

We've managed to dodge the hurricanes here in SW Florida.  Tropical Storm Fay blew through here back in August and caused minimal damage.  The east coast of FL got hammered.  I'm hoping and praying everything will calm down.

Glad to see everyone is keeping this thread going and I'll check in more often

Hello to everyone!!!

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers for the surgery.  It went well and I'm moving around pretty good considering it was 3 days ago that I had major surgery.  The most pain I've experienced is mild cramping pains with a few muscle pains getting up and down.  If this is all there is to the Da Vinci hysterectomy, it is really easy.  I'm starting to get bored but still feel a little woozy from all the drugs - I stopped prescription pain medication yesterday and switched over to Advil which seems to do the trick.

Jo - I will reluctantly start taking Arimidex in late October.  I've heard lots of people complain about it who have switched over to Femara.  Be careful and stay safe during Hurricane Ike.

Mary - Hope Baton Rouge doesn't get hit with the effects of Ike.  I was thinking of you during Gustav.....It will be nice when this hurricane season is over.  I was afraid my surgery was going to get cancelled because of Ike but thank God it steered away from us.   I'm wishing you well with your surgery coming up in Nov.  It will be nice to no longer have periods.

Carolyn - lots of people are relocating to the Carolinas.  Nice to keep it in the back of your mind.

Thanks again to everyone for the well wishes for my surgery!

Carolyn - my family lives in Asheville and dh's family is in Charlotte, lots of friends in Boone where we went to college.  Thanks for the compliment on my hair - always doing something different.

Mary and Jo - would love to hear from you and how you weathered Gustav. Hope you didn't get flooded or suffer much wind damage.  Hang on until December when hurricane season is over.

I feel like I'm a sitting duck in hurricane alley as Hanna, Ike and Josephine are lined up in the Caribbean.  I'm hoping none of them are headed this way on 9/08 as I'm scheduled for my hysterectomy.  I'm getting nervous but trying to remain calm.  I've been doing lots of reading about success stories with the Da Vinci method but a few saying recovery takes longer than they anticipated.  I've been working out alot since school started so I'm feeling really strong - hope I can get back to it asap!

Take care everyone.

Mary and Belinda Jo - I'm hoping you got to go on your trip.  I'm praying for people along the Gulf coast....I can't believe Gustav is aimed toward the state of LA/TX......take care and stay safe!

Hope everyone has a safe and fun holiday!  We're not doing much because my dh is in NC because his mother had surgery yesterday to clean out her carotid artery.  Everything went well and she is in recovery.  My ds is already busy having sleepovers with friends.  We're planning a day of yoga and swimming.

 Take care,

 Cathy

Hello to everyone from rainy FL!

We really dodged Fay's bullet here at my house.  The storm came onshore about 40 miles south of us.  We experienced lots of wind up to about 40-50 mph and rain.  We had a couple of small pine trees that toppled over but other than that we are counting our blessings!  I have tried to contact friends in Melbourne since I used to live there because they got hammered!!!!  I heard they had up to 25 inches of rain!!!!  If a hurricane heads this way, you can bet your bottom $ that we're out of here!!!!

Dottie - it's great to hear from you.  Eat some dungeness crab for me.  It's one of my favorites.

Carol - thanks for the words of encouragement regarding my surgery.  I'm trying not to sweat it out.  Do you have any words of wisdom?  PM if you do.

Mary - so sorry to hear about your father.  It does "suck" - hope your memories are comforting you at this time.  Good luck on your appts in Sept!

Maureen and Carolyn - hope all is well.

Better run and get productive today - I've been surfing the net all a.m.  My ds started school this week so I've been taking a vacation from housework!

Love ya all,

Cathy

Hi everybody:

I was out of town for almost two weeks visiting family in NC.  It was nice to get away to some cooler weather....it's really hot and humid here in SW FL - much like TX, Jo!!!!  I can sympathize with you.  I've been trying to work myself into a routine slowly but my ds has one more week of summer vacation before school starts.....so, we've been staying up late and sleeping in the a.m.

Went for a consult with an onco-gyn this past Wed about an ooph and he recommends a hysterectomy.  Therefore, I'm scheduled Sept 8 for the DaVinci robotic hysterectomy - Mary, is that what you're going to have done?  The recovery period is 1-2 weeks so I'm hoping and praying all will go well.  I would've scheduled it sooner but due to school starting and my MIL having surgery again on Aug 29 (carotid artery blockage - she needs to QUIT smoking!) I've pushed the date to Sept.

I've been down in the dumps since vacation (I thought it was suppose to help rejuvenate a person) because it was the 2 yr anniversary of dx - I'm starting to come out of it and I'm sick of the "c" taking up my thoughts!  Jo, dr appts do make me nervous, too.

Dottie and Mary - great pix of you guys when you met.  Maureen what a thrill!  Carolyn, enjoy your vacation.  I love the ocean, too!

Hope everybody has had a great summer - stay in touch!

Florida People WHERE R U?

Hi everybody:

I've been off the boards more than on.  I'm in Bonita and attended the conference last year.  Got together with choca1711 and LoriFL along with lots of other FL ladies and had a wonderful time.  Thank you again Elaine!!!!

I don't think I'll be able to attend the Moffitt conference this year because my soon to be 8 yr old will be having a birthday party that weekend (his birthday is Oct 14).  But, if things change I'll let everyone know.

Take care,

Cathy
