Starting Chemo in JAN 2007Hi Girls. Glad to hear we're doing okay. I have hats galore and a couple of scarves but like going "commando". I think it bothers my mother to see my bald head but my db is fine with whichever way I go. If people are uncomfortable seeing my bald head that's they're problem. I wear big dangling earrings and lip gloss and off I go. The other day I was at the department store and was telling my Mom a joke and the saleslady couldn't understand how I could be so happy! She could see the port tubing in my neck and was blown away by my attitude. I told her you have to laugh and make the best of things. I returned to the gym and treadmill today and really feel good. I guess it's about 5-7 days after treatment that stink. Next treatment is 2/21--I think that's Ash Wednesday so no chocolate!
Take care girls. |

Starting Chemo in JAN 2007Amera--you're a cutie pie. Thanks for posting the picture. Maybe I should post on too but not young like you girls. Well, not old either. I'm not having shots--3 week schedule. Last week for treatment #2 I did need a shot because of the anemia. But, yesterday was able to skip it and blood count was okay. Any one have dark cuticles? Mine are turning dark on about 3 nails. I'm taking Nexium now for 10 days and will start again on session #3 because of acid reflux and rawish esophagus. Good news is I'm half done with this stuff!

Starting Chemo in JAN 2007Hi Girls: I like reading all the updates. Have had such nausea and stomach problems from AC#2. Any one else having insomnia? Tomorrow I meet with onc. head nurse, last week for 2nd treatment found I was anemic so had shot and will have another one tomorrow. Was buzzed this week. Can't remember who had pics with buzz but you girls look so cute that way. It doesn't bother me going out like that--hatless. Looks cute.
Ireland: I read your comment about being a 19 on onco--me too and I've had the same doubts--after each session. That gray area--is it worth it. Of course, loved ones say absolutely but like you I wonder. The nausea and fatigue just get me down so. T4T: what a great guy you are, thanks for posting here. |

Starting Chemo in JAN 2007Hi Ladies and Tae: Tae I think you are awsome! What a support you are to your wife. I had AC #2 yesterday and did have 4mg of a steroid to help this time around. I also took a Procrit shot and need another one next week because of anemia. Any one other there needing Procrit. I do have to admit that the little bit of steriod helped greatly, yesterday a few hours after treatment was over I walked close to a mile. Getting ready to take another short one. Still nausea but not like the last time. We'll see. I need a buzz cut badly--this weekend. Hair falling all over and i had it cut to within an inch.
Hope you all are doing well too. If I had a stronger memory I would address each of you and issues in particular. Oh, i met Boo at the infusion center yesterday--it is so nice to meet someone you've been e-mailing for months. She is so sweet and brought me a goodie bag. Such a sweet thought. If any of you close to Boston want to get together, I will be up your way the first week of April visiting my daughter and helping her move in to the new house she and fiance purchased in Somerville. Hugs to all |

Starting Chemo in JAN 2007Hi Girls: To the girl who's husband is having a hard time with all she's going through, there is an excellent book called Breast Cancer Husbands. Well written and informational for us gals too. The book is good for husbands, partners, and best friends.
Missy--One of the books I read and I can't remember which one, Susan Love's Breast Book or Breast Cancer for Dummies has a section on insusrance and appeals to have the medical bills covered. Robin, I'm glad you are not having nausea and after 4 or 5 days it probably won't show up now. Around days 14-21 you will have hair follicle or scalp pain just before the hair goes so it's too soon for that. My hair has been falling out for about a week, I'm due AC #2 on Wednesday. For those who have been on this site for a while, I plan to meet Boo Wednesday--she has an appointment with our onc and I have infusion. That makes me look forward to Wednesday! I think we're all doing great. I've ordered some cute hats and turbans, picked up several pairs of big earrings, some bright lipstick and on we go! Did a session of lite Jazzercise today and will rejoin Weight Watchers tomorrow. Weekend was yucky--stomach virus and fever but after 2 days the chocolate shake tasted wonderful! Have a good weekend girls and just think by summer most of us will be over the worst of this nightmare! Hugs to all |

Starting Chemo in JAN 2007Hi Girls: Answered my own question about when the hair starts to go. Today I've had a pain on my scalp--like the hair follicles hurt. Tonight combed hair and guess what I found. Just like I heard--within 14 days! Tomorrow I have onc. appointment and blood work. I wouldn't mind if hair loss came with weight loss!
Good luck ladies, have a good night. PS Even though you know it'll happen it's still a bit of a shock and reality hitting in the face. |

Starting Chemo in JAN 2007Amera--I have Activan but haven't taken for the insomnia. Of course, last night I fell asleep before the Pats game ended and didn't find out they lost till this AM. The insomnia allows me to finalize the plans for my DD's wedding.
Ladies: have you heard about what time the hair goes? I keep checking the mirror. I've heard anywhere from 14 days out. Second AC on Ja. 31. |

Starting Chemo in JAN 2007Hi Jan Girls: Sounds like we are all handling this well. I'm so proud of all of us. I hope to get back to Lite Jazzercise this coming week. No Amera me! Three days after and at the gym? She must be 25 years old! I read the posts and see most of you are getting wigs but I have chosen not to. I'm going the scarf/hats route and if I don't have hair for daughter's wedding in May will have material that matches my dress to make a wrap for my head. First AC was 1/10 next one is 1/31 but I'm anxious as to when the hair loss will start. The Biotene is awful-tastes likes meds. The nausea lasted about 5 days but since have had bouts of insomnia. Any one there with insomnia?
I will ask the onc this week during my weekly blood work. Hang in girls and go Pats! Hugs to all! |

Starting Chemo in JAN 2007MiniGrace and Thomcat: Mini--My first AC is tomorrow but I feel pretty calm right now though I didn't sleep too well and have been up for hours. The port installed on Thursday is uncomfortable. Keep me posted on how you are doing after your first treat. I won't be on steroids--my request--but will be taking Ativan and Compazine. I have little meltdowns from time to time not much though.
Thomcat--I hope #4 goes well for you. On one of your trips to Tampa we'll need to catch up in person over a cup of cafe con leche and pan Cubano. Yum. Good luck. I won't be taking Taxol after my 4 AC treatments it's on to radiation. I'll like to hear from you and Minigrace to see how the first and last AC's go. I have scarves and was told loss in about 10 days--what about nails? I heard they come off-ugh! That's creepy. Hugs to the two of you. |

Starting Chemo in JAN 2007RobbinJaye: I'm having the same combination as you--AC every 21 days for 4 rounds. My oncotype test came out at 19 score. So, in the gray area and decided as I did. I don't know why the onc. didn't recommend the test--it's a good one to have.
My first treatment is Wednesday--still sore from the port install on Thursday. Today feel like a cold coming on and not to chipper. Need to get to the drugstore to pick up Ativan and another drug my doctor wants me to start for Wednesday. I'm ready but will be bald for my daughter's May 12 wedding. Oh well--alive though. Good luck to you--and waiting is the hardest part. Everything takes so long!! |

Starting Chemo in JAN 2007Hi Jan. Girls, I had my port installed yesterday--asleep the whole time. My surgeon installed tube thru neck and down to breast for the port. It took about 1 1/4 hours and recovery about the same time. Took Vicodin as needed. Today I had the bandages/needle removed and I'm set for Wednesday's AC treatment. Regarding blood draws, they took blood yesterday at the hospital and again today for tests. Oh well, what can one do? I understand they won't take blood from port but from veins. It was explained why but can't remember now.

Starting Chemo in JAN 2007Had my port installed earlier today. Doing fine, just a bit uncomfortable but it could be the tape. Slept most of the afternoon. Tomorrow is the flushing and patient info session. Chapuzan, don't worry, just take one day at a time. You'll be fine. Munching on chocolates now--it helps everything.

Starting Chemo in JAN 2007Ireland and Amera--loved the idea of Cancer F_! hats. I'm having my port installed tomorrow, flushed Friday and chemo info session, and first AC on Wed. Jan. 10! Can't wait. Ireland--my surgeon, the best in the Tampa area!!!, God bless her, the first thing she told me today was I had made the right decision about going with chemo. If you recall, my onc. score was 19 and didn't know if I should go with chemo treatments. It meant so much to have her tell me I had made a good decision.
Well all Jan. girls one day this will all be in the past and we'll come through just fine! Happy New Year to all!! ![]() |

Starting chemo in Sept. 06I'm so sorry about how you are feeling and I can identify with your sentiments. I haven't started my AC treatments yet--Jan. 10 is my date. But, I gained 10 pounds this summer from lymphoma treatments and lack of exercise because breast cancer was found before treatments ended and on and on. My fear is more weight gain and everyone says don't worry. But, it took me 2 years to lost 30* pounds with diet and exercise. I was in my best shape and health before the lymphoma was diagnosed. I plan to ask for no steroids during my treatments. I'll deal with being sick and nausea for now. My only child gets married in May so I want to look my best even if I'm bald! But hopefully not heavier!
Hang in and soon it'll be over. |

Starting Chemo in JAN 2007IrelandMB. I decided to have the treatments. In your case I wouldn't have hesitated--you are younger than me and two young sons. Don't worry I'm sure to the communion boy you'll be the most beautiful mom just as my daughter tells me about being the beautiful MOB.
We'll get through this. I'll be receiving AC. I was hoping the port would have been installed this week so I could have had my first session the end of December but that's how it goes. Have a beautiful Christmas with your loved ones. I can't wait for Katie and her fiance to arrive on Saturday from Boston. I send hugs and pray each night for my "sisters". |

Starting Chemo in JAN 2007Hi VLFR. I had my electroc. today. At this point I know I'll start chemo in Jan because no time now for the port to be installed. Thanks for explaining the differences in heart tests.
Happy Holidays--next year this time it will all seem like a dream! I think??? |

Starting Chemo in JAN 2007Minigrace: I've had a few meltdowns this week too. Also diag. oct-- Friday the 13th to be exact. This is my second cancer in 4 months--lymphoma in June. What a year-so I'm entitled to a couple of meltdowns right? This week the results of the OncotypeDX test were received. I fell in the gray area -- scored 19 -- so I'll start AC soon. First EKG on Tues and then need to see when port will be installed. Hang in there. I know I can deal with the hair loss--I think but the weight gain--crap!! We'll get through this.
I send you hugs. |

Starting Chemo in JAN 2007Ireland: You may have helped me make a decision. Just found out my Onco number was 19 too. What a decision to make. Other than my tumor being 1.5 we are a match. If it wasn't that my daughter is getting married in May this would not be a hard decision--go for it. But, I hate the thought of being hairless and maybe 20 pounds extra packed on. What will your chemo be? Onc. said mine would be A/C--if I decide to go that route. I'm suppose to get back to him tomorrow. I'm leaning toward going for it. My track record since June (diagnosed with Lymphoma) and now bc in Oct. is not the best.

question about lumpectomyI had SNB and lumpectomy on 11/6. Scar from lumpectomy extensive due to hematoma after biopsy. I'm sore under my arm and the scar area is really sore. Are either of you on Vicodin? I limit to one at night. Monday I meet with onc about treatments. Amera, thanks for the question about exercise. I returned to walking 5 days after surgery but not with speed and gusto as before.
