Diagnostic Mammogram

Holly,

I went through this same worry when I had a colonoscopy two years ago. (I was diagnosed with bc five years ago.)

I was hysterical in the doctor's office because I was so frightened. Everything turned out ok...these are just tests the doctors want to do to prove to us that we are ok.  You will be just fine.

Your Favorite Comedy Movies

Patch Adams with Robin Williams.

It has some serious parts, but it still rates a 9 for comedy.

maybe, possibly, i pray not

You are very young and young breasts often develop lumps and go through changes. See a doctor right away to give you peace of mind and hang here with us who can give you encouragement and great advice. It is very UNLIKELY that you have breast cancer.  Do you have someone to go with you to the doctor?

I'm tired

Allow me to also quote Nietzshe and say, "That which does not kill us makes us stronger."  We are some very strong folks here. There are local organizations that will match you with a mentor who has been through a similar experience if that is what you prefer.  However, we are always here in cyberspace to offer love, prayers, and support.

Male breast cancer

I take Arimidex and suffered terribly with the hot flashes until I stumbled upon the Atkins diet.  Now I don't recommend this diet but when I eliminated carbohydrates from my diet, the hot flashes disappeared. I realized that the culprit is white sugar and white flour.  Decrease, or better yet eliminate, these two elements and the hot flashes will probably decrease as well.

LOSING MY MIND!!

When I was going through that time, I kept busy and made the diagnosis secondary in my life.  I continued going to my college classes (I'm a late bloomer). I took advantage of a gentle, low-dose sleep aid that my doctor offered. And I kept active...exercise is essential; humor works wonders whether it is a friend who teases and plays or a good funny movie. Spend time with your children: go to the mall, the movies, a play, the park.

These are all wonderful distractions that pass the time for you.

Scared out of my mind.

Dion,

When my bc was diagnosed, the doctors looked at the mammogram and declared that it was classic cancer. They were absolutely certain of it. When the surgeon came out to talk to my friend while I lay in recovery after the lumpectomy, he stated that I had a 50/50 chance of it being benign. (In my case it wasn't benign though) Let me stress to you that they cannot be certain until they have a biopsy.

Please Help

I'll add my two cents also...whether it is painful or not, have it checked. Remember, courage is being scared to death and saddling up anyway.

John Wayne said that.

Stressed to Beat the Band

Yep, we have all been where you are and we all have different ways of coping. Walking in nature is very relaxing. I personally like to play my favorite music and go get a massage. Sometimes I just go to the mall and sit on the massage chairs to relax. Do NOT beat yourself up wondering what you could have done differently. I did BSE and never felt the lump that was the size of a quarter when the mammogram found it. Do what the doctor says and if you don't like what he says, get a second opinion.
