CRISCO: not just for cooking anymore? I'm so confused. Is there a book or something I can buy on vaginal atrophy?Maybe that wouldn't be the Title, LOL, but a book that would cover that and menopause for cancer survivors. I have the dryness and muscle thinning, I'm 55 and hope that the atrophy can be reversed and restored - anyone know? Right before my July 06 dx I was at gyn and had first exam in years, well, I almost flew off the table when that awfull metal "jaws of life" was used. I'm no baby about pain, but it was excruciating. Nurse told me about atrophy, something I was unaware of or was in denial about. The cancer dx was soon after and I concentrated on that. Now I'm ready to tackle the problem, but am ER+ and on femara. I've been researching internet, but never heard of the soy problems (love chinese food, is it ok?) or other places estrogen might be hiding and waiting for me to ingest. Of course I'll read more, but can some of you suggest good reading materials or sources to learn more about the sexual issues for women who cannot take estrogen in any form. I'd appreciate it and know others would, too. Thanks for the comments so far, I've learned a lot and want more facts. take care, debbie |

diabetes 2 and treatments Thanks for the reply Terry. During chemo I lost 23 pounds, seemed to have no problem with my diabetes. Which is kind of odd, cause if I don't eat now (ate little with chemo) I get spikes in sugar, too. Something to do with the liver sending out sugar since body is being deprived of carbs, sugar, etc.when you skip meals. Now I have gained back all but 10 of the pounds, eat regularly, and I get the high spikes. jeeze! I had rads and it's been about 5 months since; I guess body is still recovering from quite a year. I will just try and get more of a "routine" going and stick to it. My whole routine was way off this past year, with the BC, so I know I have to maintain a regular schedule of eating, exercise, etc, or my Diabetes will act up. The fact that I havn't been working makes my life more sedentary. I'm going to start adding exercise routines soon. Trying to get into a healthier lifestyle. Work used to help, but I retired at 55, couple months after I was dx. Looking for part time work, just had to finish with all my treatments first. I can imagine what a new employer would say with all the appointments I have had, I'd be fired ! ha. I'm blessed that I get my monthly pension, can return to work when ready. You sound more disciplined than I am, so it sounds like you will get back on track soon. I've been really, really trying to find the strength to be disciplined. Sometimes the immediate satisfaction of something is what I choose, instead of working hard at a task or issue and seeing the better end result. Ya know?? But now discipline might affect my health more profoundly, so I'm really going to try and make life style changes that could make a difference in my recovery continuing. It seems so logical, but it can be difficult for some. I hope you'll continue to improve and get your stamina back, too. I really think its going to be about balance in life.Hope all goes well. Regards, debbie |

Nice things people have said...After chemo took my hair, I just went bald to work and people commented, positively. While my hair was falling out in clumps, I swear my dog Buster (who sheds) was thinking:" look who's shedding Now ".

diabetes 2 and treatments<address>Hi, I have had chemo, mastectomy and rads (rads finished April). I have type 2 Diabetes, on glucophage and diet. Like to hear from other D2's who may have had "extra" symptoms/problems because of their Diabetes. I feel like I'm still more tired than I should be, had heavy spiking of sugar levels for a while and wonder if D gives different side effects or makes it worse, etc. I am a little better, just paying more attention my D care. Also, I have had great days with lots of energy, but not as much stamina. I'm 55 and want my energy back! I'm on Femara, have usual aches with that. Please weigh in. And it's so far, so good for my IBC cancer, one year after dx. Thanks, love to all. Tests, Treatments & Side Effects + Lymphedema After Surgery, Created: Jul 1, 2007 09:19 pm
woke up with LE, help before app't??Thanks rrs: I'll do the tips. I forgot Monday is a holiday (I think), so may not get back to therapist till tues. Hate "wasting" time and they didn't call me back yet. Probably they are booked pretty much and may take time to get in. I'm more positive now that I've had a few days to think about it. It's odd, I feel like I have beaten cancer, but lymphedema has no cure. And a hassle since I live in Fla where it's hot, I love to garden, etc. But, I'm very blessed that I can get treatment, have ins. and it's my non-dominate arm. Just got to be positive and seek solutions. THANKS for the help and wishes. All the best to you and yours as well ! deb in fla.

woke up with LE, help before app't??Hello: I woke up this morning with symptoms of upper arm LE. Not major in size, only in upper area, into arm pit. I have a call into a MLD therapist to make an app't., probably talk w/tomorrow. However, are there some safe things I can do before my med treatments starts?? I know to elevate, stop certain drinks/foods, etc. But, any advice would help. In July 07 I will have been dx one year. Had chemo, mastectomy, radiation (last in march), and phys. therapy to regain movement in arm. Now, whether it's coincidental or not, I just came back from short 4 day trip to Salt Lake City (mile hi city, too) via to/from airflight, from Alabama. I am not sure that "caused" it since I have other risk factors, but won't go without a sleeve on planes from now on, although there are conflicting stories about usage before you have symptoms.?? Couldn't get sleeve in time for impromptu flight. Ok, thanks for listening, I appreciate your first hand knowledge!! Love, debbie
