July 2007 Radiation

Hi: I started RADs yesterday 7/17. 2 tatoos. My first treatment was at 5pm and at 5:04 I was in my car. Today would have been the same but I met with the doc after - just for questions. I was told to buy Vitamin E cream or oil and use it every day starting right away. The "skin thing" is a little scary since I am also working full time but I guess I will deal with that also. I am still going once a week for Herceptin. I actually finished my regular chemo on April 25th so RADs have been kind of delayed - just kept getting postponed. No hair yet!

Good to talk with all of you. Stay strong.

Do you get any Pre-Meds before Herceptin?

I have nothing with Herceptin and no problems at all.

My Muga dropped!

Hi Janet (and fellow sisters):
I finally finished #8 and final Taxotere and Carbo this past Wednesday. I started Dec. 4th and had a few postponements with low counts. Am recuperating now and glad to be done with that part. I still have Herceptin for 6 more months, and of course, radiation soon also. I have been reading about your MUGA results. Mine started at 58 in November. The first Onc never ordered another but I have a problem with tachycardia so went to a Cardiologist. The second MUGA in April was 52 but Onc is saying no problem. I also work in Radiology Department in hospital and Nuclear tech tells me these numbers can vary from tech and radiologist reading them (quite a few points). However at 52 I am concerned. My next one is scheduled for July so I will see how that goes. Glad for all your input. Seems we have to take care of ourselves for the most part. Good to have all the advice from everyone here. Enjoy your Memorial Day bbqs. Lucy

taxotere,carboplatin and herceptin

I dont think your scalp will hurt if you shave your head before chemo but why not wait (just in case). It seems like it is the weight of hair that causes the sensation. I didnt shave mine but cut it VERY short as it began to fall out. No sensations in other areas with hair loss.
Also as far as the weight I guess everyone is different. I lost about 10 lbs but I could probably afford to lose about 10 more. Weight varies during different stages of treatment. I lose a lot during the first week after treatment but it comes back and then get puffy face and hands.

taxotere,carboplatin and herceptin

Hi Cindy:
I lost all my hair on day #18 after first treatment. Some fuzz remained but not much. (like a baby monkey, I guess!). My eyebrows thinned out quite a bit and also my eyelashes. Then again, I am 59 so my eyebrows were thinner than usual anyway. The hair thing was most difficult as it was coming out but after you cut it or lose it you will adjust very quickly. I was surprised myself. By the way your head will begin tingling and aching just prior to it falling out so you will have a little warning. Keep in touch. I am here to help. Lucy

taxotere,carboplatin and herceptin

cindy ..
Yes. TCH every 3 weeks and herceptin weekly. Time does go quickly and you will soon be done. Mine seemed to stretch out longer than most others. I had 8 treatments where I know some had only 6 and I was postponed three times due to low WBCs. I have just returned to work last week and have been doing pretty well with it.
We seem to have the same situation.
I am also:
DCIS, IDC , Stage 1, grade 3, Node negative, ER/PR neg and her2 POS.

If I can help with anything let me know. Lucy

taxotere,carboplatin and herceptin

Hi Leslie & Katymom.
I have been on Taxotere, Carboplatin and Herceptin since December. I have one treatment left May 23 and then just Herceptin for the rest of the year. It is not as bad as the anxiety before of not knowing what to expect. You will see a pattern after each treatment so you will know after the first how your body will react each day during the cycle. As far as Decadron it will keep you awake for several days but should have nothing to do with wbc count. Maybe your numbers are up because you had an infection. The day of treatment you will probably receive Benadryl which leaves you kind of tired so you may want to rest on that day. The day I always feel great (partly from Decadron I guess) and around the 2nd day I get VERY tired. Hair loss is usally between week 2 and 3 and bad taste comes from Taxotere. I have had no nausea or vomiting at all after 7 treatments and no major side effects. Try not to worry too much. The treatments themselves I found were kind of relaxing. You probably wont even know they are going in. Do you have a port? That to me was wonderful. So easy! Hope I can help now that I am almost done with my treatments.
Prayers to you. Lucy

taxotere,carboplatin and herceptin

My onc said that he met with a group of docs from Australia working on Herceptin and they felt that TCH was the safest way to go as far as effects on the heart. So there was no choice for me. Glad of that. Two more to go. Then just Herceptin. Still confused whether or not to switch to every 3 weeks or stay with weekly since I have no problems at all with weekly Herceptin. Any input?? THanks.

Hi Maureen:
I am also doing Herceptin. I have three more TCH and then just Herceptin the rest of the year. So far no problems with Herceptin. How about you? Will you be doing every 3 weeks or continue with weekly. I am not sure yet what I want to do but I have until May to figure it out.
Take care. Lucy

Starting Chemo Dec 2006

Hi Mary
I too get nosebleeds and I think it is the Taxotere from dryness. I was told to use a Saline spray. Actually this last treatment it hasnt happened. I had my 5th treatment today. Taxotere, Carboplatin and Herceptin. I have not had any horridible effects from Taxotere other than the fatigue beginning around day 3 or 4 and of course the horridible taste in mouth.
My son;s birthday is also April 8th (Easter Sunday) this year. He will be 19 and he will be home from college for a few days. I miss him terribly.
Well I got Benadryl with infusion today and am just starting to come around now. Hope you all have a better day tomorrow. Lucy

Starting Chemo in JAN 2007

Rita: My Prayers are with you for the loss of your Mom. My Mom is 92 and in a Nursing Home. It can be tough. In reference to what you said about God never gives us more than we can handle, someone said that it is suffering that gives meaning to our lives and makes us realize what is important and then brings us closer to God. We girls are always here for you. Love, Lucy
