Positive Obama threadMaureen- long time no see! I don't like what Edwards cheating but I can see him doing a lot of good in the future for health care and the poor. To me cheating on his wife doesn't mean he can't be an effective public servant. I doubt we'll ever know what was missing in the relationship that caused Edwards to stray, but to me that's private and not for me to judge. Imagine if we knew about either of the Kennedy cheating or any of the other numerous presidents and politicians who cheated. USA home of civil and equal rights for all heterosexuals |

Positive Obama threadNic- SOS isn't equal to the VP. Biden would still have power over Hillary, although she'd report to Obama. Biden might be in the position of being a go between with Hillary and Obama and delivering his message to her during times when Obama was focusing on other things. Biden has far more foreign experience than Hillary, having served in different chairmenship capacities over his years as senate. Hillary does have the personal relationships that Biden doesn;t have with some leaders from her days as first lady. The SOS position is probably the highest cabinet member, particularly in times of war, although the secretaries in the finance area will be quite prominent in the months to come. I agree that Obama is surrounding himself with the best of the best and showing his confidence by appointing strong personalities. He said during the campaign he wants people who will disagree with him and she's not shy about doing that. I hope my fears are unfounded and that she's the best SOS we've ever had. summer- Palin was asked by the cameraman if she wanted to move and she said it was fine. I'm sure she'll say it was a set up at some point, like the prank phone call, but I think this is just a case of her being out of touch with what most people find palpable on tv. g- I laughed when I read your comments because I used the term "attention seeking whore" all the time (not just for Palin). The term can apply to men and women. USA home of civil and equal rights for all heterosexuals |

Positive Obama threadThere she goes again--- Palin apparently hasn't learned the lesson that the coverup is always worse than the misstep. Now she's saying she had no idea that the slaughter was going on behind her, yet the video clearly shows her looking back and watching. Grace I have no idea how she survives. She probably does ok in a state with less population than most major cities if the expectations are very low on how an intelligent woman handles herself professionally. I wonder how they'll feel with oil selling so much cheaper when the profits go down and they won't be getting those rebate checks. Alaska seems like a horrible place to live, even without Palin. I bet they have a lot of seasonal affective distorder thbere. Is anyone else worried about the Clinton drama and how that will effect the Obama presidency as secretary of state. Hillary likes to be in control. I wonder how she'll feel working under Obama, especially if he overrides her decision on something she feels strongly about. Will she go home and complain about her boss, as we all do and will Bill use that in speeches? USA home of civil and equal rights for all heterosexuals |

Positive Obama threadlaura= what is up with these republicans who have no sense of the impact of their words and the timing of those words. Talking about airports when you were arrested in one and it caused national jokes? Talking about civility at a turkey farm vs. brutality of politics with turkeys being slaughtered in the background? Come on, the republicans have better people to offer than that, don't they? g- my hate for Palin grows with each passing faux pas. I'm not a vegetarian, I love meat, but I don't like watching my dinner die or thinking about that. Maybe that makes me a bit of a hypocrite, but at least I'm sensitive to animals. Positive Obama threadblaest- I agree that as a whole, democrats are kinder and more generous than their republican counterparts. If we look at the types of ads that have run in the past elections, attacking character vs. policy that's quite apparent. We can look at democratic agendas of strengthening lower and middle class families, providing health care for the un and underinsured vs. republican's cries of socialism. Democrats have supported affirmative action to help bring a more level playing field to minorities and he underrepresentative and women have benefitted from this as much as blacks. Republicans want these same minorities to get over it and move on, as if the day women got the right to vote and the day civil rights became law everything became equal. Republicans have fought to keep the old white christian boys network going. Obviously not every dem or repub feels this way, but as a whole I believe democrats and kinder and more sensitive to the needs of all than republicans. Positive Obama threadAnyone who comes onto this thread repeatedly just to cause trouble is a troll and I don't care to read those threads. The term isn't about different opinions, it's about blatant disregard for others and simply wanting to gain attention through causing trouble. Anyone who wants to participate in meaningful, proliberal discussion is welcome. g- great news! I do think that there are self righteous folks on the board who act like the gestapo and target folks with whom they disagree. It's happened before and it'll happen again. Lady suz- I think it's very possible that there is a clique of people who are reporting blaest's posts out of vindictiveness. I've seen it done on the boards before. I also think blaest could take steps to keep a lower profile and ignore the people who have been unwelcoming. I don't think public criticism of the moderators is the way to go in stopping repeated terminations. Laura- I just can't believe how bizarre that woman is. I keep comparing her to a poorly written sitcom character. I think SNL can get rid of their writers and just follow her around with a video camera and tape recorder. It's just un-freaking-believable. Thank goodness Begich won that senate seat. Speaking of the senate, did you hear the outgoing senator with the wide stance Larry Craig's creepy tribute to outgoing felon senator Ted Stevens? Creepy! http://voices.washingtonpost.com/sleuth/2008/11/_history_of_alaska_fisheries.html?hpid=moreheadlines from the washington post: Retiring Sen. Larry Craig (R-Idaho), famous, of course, for his airport men's room arrest, told the story of how he came to call Stevens "Uncle Ted." Craig said he was in a cab, on his way to the Ted Stevens International Airport in Anchorage, when he pulled up to the curb and said out loud, "Oh my, Ted's got an airport. That's neat." The cab driver, according to Craig, said "Do you know Uncle Ted?" Craig recalled the driver saying, "I know of no other person who has done more for my state than Uncle Ted." "Ted Stevens now knows why I call him Uncle Ted more often than not. I view that as a much more affectionate term than Senator Stevens," Craig said, adding as he leaned over to Stevens, "I'm gonna miss you, Uncle Ted." I'm no PR professional, but if I was, I'd advise Craig against referring to airports in public speeches because the mind drifts from the topic at hand to his wide stance arrest. Positive Obama threadRM- If someone wants to talk to blaest or anyone else, a PM would be the best way rather than going onto a thread where one has previously causes problems. That to me is troll like behavior. I doubt the republican thread would appreciate if I did the same thing to one of their participants. blaest- I agree with your political points, but when you use the term whining like a little girl, you play into gender stereotypes with which I disagree. Whining isn't female specific and I think that your point loses it's significance when a statement is seen as biased. Most of the people on this board are decent people. We can't let a few rotten apples spoil it for all of us and giving them attention just seems to fuel their fire. Let's all keep this thread pro Obama and pro democratic agenda without getting into arguments with the other side. On the off topic subject of why Sarah Palin just doesn't get it, have you all seen the disgusting video with her at the turkey farm http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-kjM1asH-8 ? She pardons the turkey and then in another shot, talks about how politics is brutal and she's glad to be back among nicer things with turkeys being slaughtered in the background????? She was told by the camerman that this would be in the shot and said that it didn't matter? Not for the squeamish-- but this woman is so out of touch it's frightening. Positive Obama threadAnd here I thought we were going to be troll free for a while. I guess anything for a little attention. Blaest, IBCSpouse came here once and tried to spread negativity on our thread, but after the election he came and spread a nice story about Obama's victory. I thought that was a nice thing to do. There are a few trolls on the repub board who come over here to cause trouble, but they are not representative of all over there. Think of it as if you were a prison guard, you wouldn't want to dignify the prisoner spreading feces on the bars by giving them attention for their disruptive and disgusting behavior. LOL. luann- actually it's not going to be as difficult to undo bush's "rules" as Bush originally thought it would be. Congress needs only a simple majority to do so for rules passed after May 15th. Bush got his numbers wrong. We can thank Bill Clinton for changing that. USA home of civil and equal rights for all heterosexuals |

Positive Obama threadlive- where did you get those pictures, they're wonderful. grace- I'm willing to give Dashle a chance and hope that his beliefs have evolved over the past decade. Remember Jocelyn Elders advocating masturbation and the right wing going bonkers LOL. She was way off saying it might decrease AIDS because most people want to be able to do both, and they don't settle for masturbation. Re: the bail out. I still think consolodating the car manufacturers would be a good idea and turning the other 2 plants can be turned into the green manufacturing I suggested a few pages back. What if the government asked people like Buffet and Gates to temporarily buy start up the new car company, American Cars, they could pick the best and the brightest of the employees, buy the models that are green friendly and making a profit and let the others fail. I agree with linora on spending money on improving mass transit. I think we do need to have some American auto manufacturing in this country, for national security, and because some people will always need cars like doctors who are on call, people in rural areas where having public transportation wouldn't be cost effective etc. bush is a freaking moron. He's also signing acts so that scientists can't use environmental concerns as a reason to stop drilling etc. He's such a sleaze bag. What the hell was Laura thinking when she married him? She definitely married down. USA home of civil and equal rights for all heterosexuals |

Friends had no time for me, but call me to help othersI don't look at helping as a quid pro quo. I never except others to help me. If I need help I ask for it, but I don't expect people to read my mind. I help if I want to and if I can, but not as a payback or a pay forward for when I might need something. Holding onto the bitterness for some perceived slight isn't going to help you more past it. Rose has a good answer if you don't want to do something. You're not obligated to help if you don't want to. USA home of civil and equal rights for all heterosexuals |

Positive Obama threadThanks laura- keep me posting anything else that comes up in case! Positive Obama threadLin- I don't think any of us who support keeping leiberman in his position like or respect him. Someone said if Obama is reaching across the aisle to republicans and wants to build a " I'm all for legalizing MJ, particularly for medicinal purposes. what do you think about the leaks? I don't know whether this if A necessarily equals B, but these leaks did start with the Rahm Emanual's appointment. I think the leak proof campaign mode needs to be implemented ASAP. And lastly, on the just desserts front... Even if this is just a nuisance thing, there's no one more deserving of it. ANCHORAGE, Alaska - A resident of Gov. Sarah Palin's hometown has filed a complaint against her, saying she broke Alaska ethics rules. Zane Henning of Wasilla says Palin improperly held national television interviews from the governor's office about her unsuccessful run as the Republican vice presidential nominee. Henning says Palin promoted her future political career on state property The governor's office says Palin was not a candidate at the time of the interviews. Henning's complaint, filed Tuesday, asks the Alaska Personnel Board to investigate his claim. Positive Obama threadI agree blaest. How about Alaska, pulling itself out of the edges of hell by narrowly electing Begich over convicted felon Stevens? Scary that the vote was that close and I still think the majority of the people in the state are idiots, but at least they didn't chose the felon over the mayor of Ankorage. Positive Obama threadSomeone suggested making the banks who got and are getting bailout money loan the money to the automakers. Not sure how I feel about that. The auto manufacturers need to start looking themselves in the mirror when ask for money-- hello, taking a private jet at a cost of $20,000 per person to the hearings? What ever happened to flying coach or rending a van and taking a road trip. I think the gov. should some how encourage the automakers to consolidate their operations focusing forward on greener technology while keeping successful models. What do you guys think about Daschel for Health and Human Services? My concerns are that he hasn't been particularly GLBT friendly, and if he's going to be involved in policies surrounding GLBT issues like DADT and DOMA- I'm not sure he's going to be open to complete equal civil rights. He's obviously a bright man and I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. USA home of civil and equal rights for all heterosexuals |
