Tamoxifen and SE's

This may just apply to me, but I'm wondering if there is a difference in makers.  After I switched my Rx to a different drug store, I started experiencing the stomach uneasiness.  Luckily its not real bad, but I'm wondering if the ingredients are slightly different.  Haven't done the research the find out if this could be the case or if it was related to something else.

Question about relative who was told no chemotherapy is needed

Fjmtdm, protocol recommends chemo if node involvement.  Apparently, she didn't have any b/c it was caught early.  Lots of women do only rads and removal.  I'm sure she appreciates your concern.

Is Taxol worse the Adriamycin?

Hi all, I had a taste of all three drugs and each has its own set of SE's.  AC really affected my taste buds -- everything tasted like metal but I was able to work everyday except treatment day.  Did 15 weekly doses but last few doses were tough.  I did a couple of Taxols - taste buds came back, hair started growing back, legs ached for about 3 days each time, neuropathy in hands and feet started.  Nails discolored on AC - didn't get worse.  Taxol was easier but didn't agree with me so I tried Taxotere which is closely related to Taxol.  Taxotere was the hardest for me or maybe I was just tired of chemo.  Just make sure you get good nausea meds.  Good luck.

Roxanne, I thought stage iv automatically qualified you for benefits in NC.  Have you talked to the folks at UNC's & Duke's Cancer centers.  The folks at UNC  are really helpful. Good luck & contact legal aide to see if a letter from an attoryney will speed up the process.

Dx with Brain Mets Today

Stephanie, so sorry to hear about your mets.  Hope spinal results bring good news.  No matter what the results there are more good meds available than in the past, and remember there is a doctor/healer in whom all things are possible.

cancer is not a disease, but a survival mechanism

Okay, I get the part about causing my own cancer, but can somebody explain why children get cancer - do we blame that on the mother's lifestyle when pregnant?

BC in 05 now its back in a lymph node

Abbysmom or Healthteach, did either one of you have any pain or any symptoms  or anything unusual that prompted you to get scan, or was it detected by regular checkup?

Taxol Side Effects

Hi Dibel, I had bone pain with Taxol also.  The good news is that the pain doesn't last.  I had treatment on Tues or Wed, bone pain started on Fri and was gone by Monday.  Walking especially was painful for a couple of days, especially the first time because you're not used to it.  At least with taxol, your taste buds are back and hopefully you're not experiencing any nausea.  Except for the 2-3 days of bone pain, hopefully taxol will  get better.

Good luck and hang in there.  How many treatments do you have to do?

working through chemo

Hi Sharon, let me start by saying, everyone seems to have a different experience with treatment, so just keep in mind there is no normal.  Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised by how well I did.  I did weekly AC and worked everyday except day of treatment.  I had plenty of nausea meds so no nausea--quesiness that's all.  I work as elem. school librarian, so used weekends to rest as much as possible.  School was out by the time I started having problems with AC.  I cut hair several times before it came out and bought several wigs.  Didn't go bald  because would have had to answer too many questions.

My advice is do whatever you feel up to.  Don't push yourself.  Hopefully, you will have people at work who are understanding.  chemobrain can be very frustrating and funny at time.  But the time passes faster than you think after you get started.

Good luck.  It's doable.

AC and heart rate

Trigeek hi, have you started the taxol yet?  I did 2 doses of taxol and each time, I had SVT episode where heart rate went up.  The first time I woke up and heart rate was at about 160 -- topped out around 180.  The onc on call told me to go to ER.  The second time, it took about 3 hours for HR to correct itself.  Cardiologist told me to stop taxol b/c heart is not pumping effectively at that rate. It did AC before Taxol as well.  As long as no lightheadness or shortness of breath, then not a cause for panic - it just didn't feel good.

Need advice/suggestions

Hi Terry, just wanted to say I understand how you feel.  Like you, I was dx in feb and had surgery in march, then chemo started in April and getting ready to start rads.  It all takes a toll physically and mentally.  I felt like my plate was full just doing that and I still worked, payed bills and tried to keep the house liveable, etc.  It's hard for anyone who hasn't been thru this to know how we feel.  Sometimes, I don't think I know.

You'll do what you have to do by Dec.  don't let dh get to you about this.

blurred vision & sometimes seeing double

Hi RED, I did TAC and vision definitely got worse.  Per my onc, it is a known SE.  They told me to wait until after treatment finished  to see if vision improved before getting eyes checked.  I've been thru treatment for a couple of months and need to schedule eye exam.  Also, a co-worker on different treatment had vision problems as well -- so it seems fairly common SE.

Hope it gets better for you soon.

Sore Feet - Help

Thanks Tine & OLBinNJ for the response.  Gee, I've only been on tamoxifen about 6 weeks!!  I hope this doesn't get worse.  For the first few minutes that I start walking, I have to waddle like a duck to try to balance the weight on my feet. Weight gain from chemo meds make me feel like duck too but that's another story.

Will definitely bring this up to the doctor at my next visit.

Sorry to hear that you all have been going this for quite some time.  Hope you find some relief.
