please helpSue and all, Hope all have a great weekend. I am headed home early, no orders We have had unseasonably cold weather this week and a few snow flurries have blown through. No snow on the ground here but up the mtns they have opened up the ski resorts already (about 20 miles from my house). My family is doing Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow and Donald's family is doing it Thanksgiving day. I am roasting two turkey breasts in the crockpot for my family and my strawberry/angel food cake/whipped topping desert for my in-law's dinner. How large do tops need to be to accommodate drains?I too got camisoles to put the drains in and I wore tops that hung loosely on me. Here is a link to a picture of a jackson-pratt drain from wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jackson-Pratt_drain The drains themselves hold about 8 oz of fluid and when full are about the size of your fist. After you empty the drains, they are squeezed as flat as you can get them to create a vacuum to pull the fluid out so they are not very big. I emptied mine 3 or 4 times a day and they were never more than half way full when I emptied them so they were not real big. I had 2 pulled a week after my surgery and the other two pulled the following week, when they put out less than 30cc in a 24 hour period. How long do you need someone to help after surgery?Rayhope, I had bilat mast with expanders June 07, my hubby is a long haul trucker and I was by myself during the week most of the time. My mother came by every day for several hours for the first 2 weeks to help clean and fixed me meals. She would ask what I wanted and stop at the store if I needed something. She also drove me to my follow-up appointments for the whole time I was on leave from the office. I was able to take my dog out and put her on the cable run when by myself, although I worked with her for several weeks before to not bolt out the door to keep from pulling me down the steps. Mostly by the end of the 2nd week, I was able to function on my own, but after I first got home I spent a lot of time reclining in the living room watching movies and sleeping (sometimes at the same time). Questions about reconstruction with implants using AllodermI didn't know that the alloderm was considered investigational by bcbsnc until after my surgery, they paid the cost of the alloderm on the hospital bill but refused to pay the ps for putting in the alloderm. He was ready to write off the cost if the appeal process failed. We appealed it 3 times over a 6 month period before it went before a panel with an independent ps. That ps said that it is coming more common to use it and it was approved for my case, not an across the board approval. My ps said that more and more of his patients are being denied the use of alloderm but he is appealing each and every one. Need some easy casserole ideas to deliver to a familyI would use the disposable pans because sometimes when you receive the meals, you can forget who brought what dish. Glad makes a line of ovenware that I use, it has lids that snap on (lids not oven save) and they go from freezer to oven with no problem. I have an easy chicken pot pie recipe that can also use turkey left-overs 1 can veg-all mixed vegetables drained or 2 cups frozen mixed vegetables thawed 1 cup cooked chicken or turkey cut in pieces 1 can cream of chicken or mushroom soup undiluted 1 cup Bisquick baking mix or self rising flour 1/2 cup milk 1 egg (if using self rising flour 2 T melted butter) Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In 8 or 9 inch square baking dish lightly greased, mix vegetables, chicken and soup and spread out evenly in pan. In a small bowl mix remaining ingredients until blended. Spoon evenly over vegetables and chicken. bake about 30 minutes or until crust is golden brown. Take along a bag of salad mix and some brownies or cookies for a balanced meal. Smiles, Chuckles, and Quick LaughsBe careful this could happen to you! The other stall I had barely sat down when I hear a voice from the other stall saying: 'Hi, how are you doing?' I'm not the type to start a conversation in the restroom. I don't know what got into me, but I answered, somewhat embarrassed: 'Doing just fine.' And the other person says: 'so what are you up to?' what kind of question is that! At that point, I thinking 'this is just too bizarre!' so I say: 'Ummm, I'm just like you, just sitting here.' At this point I am just trying to get out as fast as I can when I hear another question: 'Can I come over?' Ok, this question was just too weird for me. I figured I could politely end the conversation. I say: 'No . . . . I'm a little busy right now!!!!' then I hear the person say, nervously: 'Listen, I'll have to call you back. There's an idiot in the next stall who keeps answering all my questions!!' We are like tea bags, we don't know how strong we are until we were thrown into hot water. Dancing with the StarsJust because they are requiring digital doesn't mean you have to go with cable or satellite service. I had the cable cut off 5 yrs ago when my hubby was out of work and we couldn't afford the cable bill. We purchased an external antenna for 100 and get all the local channels we need. I have gone digital with the digital converter box for air broadcast signals, the one advertised with the $40 coupon from the gvmt. Before I put the converter box on I could get channel 9 with snow (low signal), but the converter box shows the signal strength and if it is too low, no reception. I have been assured by the engineers at the station that when they put up the new antenna my signal strength will increase for that channel. please helpVal, Glad for UB's great news. I am sure that yours will be great also. That date (dec 12) was supposed to be our company Christmas party but the economic down turn has cancelled the evening Christmas party as well as the Christmas lunch for our company. The Christmas party was for spouses and involved dinner at the Country Club, dancing and door prizes. The Lunch was a catered lunch for employees only. Hopefully part of it will be back next year. The rumor has it that next year, our unused sick time will be lost at the end of the year. Now any unused sick time is a bonus check at the end of the year that helps out with Christmas. The last time I bowled, after my surgery, I used the handicapped ramp to push the ball down the alley to not stress out my arms. I actually think I scored better than my hubby. Cathi ad Lisa, I didn't wait until my son was grown up to leave my abusive 1st hubby, he was 3 months old when I left. I did like you did Cathi, I waited until he left for work, called my dad and he came over with his van and we loaded up my clothes, my son's crib and dresser, and the dishes that I got as wedding presents and moved to my parent's house. I was ready to be just John and myself until 10 yrs later, the love of my life walked into my heart in a snow storm. We have been together for almost 12 years and married for 11 years Dec 20. whole brain radiation and wigsSher, I can only comment about my aunt's experience to whole brain radiation in 1978, she just wore cotton scarves and had a favorite wig that she wore. Even though she didn't let us see her bald, she did develop a 'cradle cap' scale on her scalp that she massaged baby oil on to help moisturize the scale. microcalcification questionsSara, when I was at the point you are at now, waiting for the biopsy after abnormal mammo, I too didn't have a lot of info and was freaking out. I had my first abnormal mammo showing microcalcifications resulting in a sterotactic biopsy when I was 44, it was b-9 ADH (pre-cancer). 80% of the time the biopsies for microcalcifications are b-9. I don't know specifically about your question on the number in the cluster. Make sure that you get a copy of your path report from your doctor, even if it is b-9, it will help you plan any steps later on. Friends had no time for me, but call me to help othersboy, do I feel the same way. I am the wife of a long haul trucker and when I had my surgery in 07 I was by myself during the week. My mom and sister helped take care of me after my surgery, they made sure that I had hot meals, food to cook and a way to go to the doctor for follow-up appointments. A few ladies at church did make me a meal or two the first week I was home from the hospital. It would have been nice if more women would have offered to bring food in to me. A couple of months ago one of the other women at church (who is a widow) had foot surgery and was to stay off her foot, the ladies group arranged different families to make and take food for her every day of the week for at least 3 weeks while she was out of work. She protested that she didn't need the help but the leader of the group insisted that they carry in a meal to her every day. It was like a slap in the face, why didn't they offer to bring in meals to me? I was very open about when my surgery was to take place and how long I would be out of work (5-6 weeks). We (my mother, sister, and I) all attend the same church and it seems that some families get preferencial treatment if there is an ailment in the household. They did the same thing (ignored) when my father had hip replacement surgery 2 yrs ago with complications. We are like tea bags, we don't know how strong we are until we were thrown into hot water. Expanders vs. Implants looks....Imrunner, the folds you see may be where the expander is not filled out. as you get more saline put in the expanders, they should smooth out. the pictures that you saw at the ps office were probably final result pictures, they don't usually take pictures while you have the expanders in. My implants don't look anything like the expanders. We are like tea bags, we don't know how strong we are until we were thrown into hot water. Dancing with the StarsI have missed the past couple of weeks due to atmospheric conditions, Channel 9 has the farthest away antenna and when we have overcast skies I can't pick it up, but good news they are putting in a booster antenna in Hickory in Feb. to improve reception in the mtns. Yes I am on antenna not cable/satellite. I was worried when I heard that Warren was dancing but he has surprised me. I hope that it would be Warren but I think it will be between Lance and Brooke. My vote is for Lance. I too think that Kristi would beat Brooke. Sheila We are like tea bags, we don't know how strong we are until we were thrown into hot water. please helpWell, this week my house is once again heavy with the testerone. Not only is John home but Donald is home also. Donald and I went this weekend to the eastern part of the state for his brother's wedding and we both took Monday off. He has tried since Tuesday to get back on the roads but the freight is down for his company and he is taking this week off as a vacation week. I am so used to having the house to myself, now I have to share it with two Men! John has an interview tomorrow with a security company in the next county, the guy was impressed with the experience that John got while in the Navy doing security detail, maybe it will pan out to a job. Just for fun-- Let's talk hobbiesHobbies, I seem to change hobbies frequently. Right now I am doing alot of quilting, mostly small items like wall hangings. The quilt guild I am a member of did a mystery quilt this year and with borders the quilt will be the bigest one I have made, big enough for my queen size bed. right now I have the center blocks finished, I need to put the borders on it and then do the quilting. I also crochet, mostly lace snowflakes and fuzzy chemo caps for the local wig bank. I love to read historical novels. My favorite authors are a husband and wife team Brock and Bodie Thoene. My favorite books are several series that flow from the first series set just after WWII (Shiloh Legacy) to the 2nd Series set Just before WWII (Zion Covenent), to the 3rd series set after WWII (Zion Chronicles) and the 4th series set after Israel became a nation (Zion Legacy). I orginally read these books backwards not realizing that they were connected but have re-read them several times again and each time I love the intrigue as well as the history lesson in each book. A Crafty Christmas?I forgot about making the crazy fleece hats. I have also made them for my son, nieces, nephews, and great nephews. One hat even went with my son on deployment to wear on the ship when they had Crazy Hat Day, it was a fleece ski hat I made with long fleece strips sewed around it as like a crazy wig. Two years ago I made them for my in-laws husbands and their children. I made a patchwork fleece hat (hunter style with the fold up ear flaps) for my hubby out of the scraps of other fleece to see if I could get the pattern big enough for his large head and he likes it better than the solid black one I made for him to actually wear in public. I can make the hats in less than an hour. We are like tea bags, we don't know how strong we are until we were thrown into hot water. I think I have a problemI'm a little late in this party, since I am not a drinker, all I can offer is sweet iced tea and a homemade biscuits with honey. When I said I would cuss up a snow storm yesterday, I didn't know we would have snow flurries yesterday afternoon, so I guess I did cuss up the snow storm after all. The ski resorts opened up at the top of the mountain (25 miles away in Boone) and this is the earliest they have opened in a long time. sheila We are like tea bags, we don't know how strong we are until we were thrown into hot water.
