Ripples!

hello to everyone, has anyone had any experience with tissue expanders becoming infected? i became septic approx 3 weeks after surgery. i had to have emergency surgery to have them out and while i am better now,my chest is a mess...my dr said in 6 mos. we will reevaluate, but breasts or not,i dont think i can face anymore surgery. i was so sick.

What were you doing when you heard the dreaded word?

it was a few days after my steriotactic biopsy. i had already had an ultrasound guided biopsy a week ealier on a mass that showed up on the mri. that was ok. you know all along the way, everyone downplays the chances of it being cancer...has anyone else found that to be true?

anyway my breast care dr called me after work,my husband was in the kitchen listening to my conversation. it is funny,i thought that he was calling to tell me everything was ok,and then i heard him say invasive ductal carcinoma,he then went on to talk about it being her2 positive. i remember caling my older sister and her breaking down, which actually helped me to stay strong. i too wish i had started a journal, there is so much stored in my head.nancy.

October 08 Reconstructioneers

hi to all, this is nancy, right mastectomy may of 07,just last week left mastectomy with bi lateral tissue expanders, this surgery took more out of me,maybe the chemo has made me not as strong as i thinki am. but better now, anticipating good resullts. love my ps. but no matter how they look.i will not have to worry about breast cancer again.

my mom died when she was 51 of breast cancer,i am 54,all my life i knew it would happen. the funny thing is no matter how close you and your dr watch you,you cannot stop it from occuring. i grieve more now for my mother, look at the possibilities we have that she dident.

be strong,nancy

Can't sleep...4:00 am

hi vicki, this month it will be a year since i started this cancer journey,i feel better now than i have in years. it is a wake up call to lose weight ,eat right exercise and love the people around me. sure chemo was quite an experience, last summer and fall are now a vague memory. but they were doable. i will continue on herceptin for a while and that is pretty painless. when you wake up at 3 am ...enjoy the quiet as i do,read,do bills etc. i have even found reruns of the martha stewart show( which i never get to watch during the day)bottom line is you will get thru this,we are here for you, stay strong for your self and a year from now you will be helping someone else. with love and support, nancy.

Cracked/split nails/fingers w/Herceptin

wow,i feel so much better knowing i am not alone with these cracks around my thumb and index finger,my fingernails refuse to grow and my toenails are just brown and disgusting. i have placed the blame on the taxol, the numbness for sure, but i guess the herceptin has to take some of the blame too.

do you ever feel like your just falling apart?

nancy

Can we do a Her2 roll call?

hi, this is nancy, it means no evidence of disease!! i too have finished adriamycin and cytoxin and taxol. my hair is statrting to come in and i feel very good,i will continue on herceptin until october of 08.

i am still slightly depressed, hopefully that will improve as spring nears. i am starting to think about reconstruction, i dont wearing the prosthesis but,my clothing options seem a little limited. does anyone know if reconstruction will provide that bit of cleavage for v necks or lower cut blouses? thanks, nancy.
