Gas price survey

Between $1.92 and $1.97 in central MA.  I just filled up with my supermarket card, though, and saved another .30/gal.  I paid $1.67!!!

This is the first time my fill 'er up total has been under $40 in a long, long while.

Speaking of this, someone told me today that they had heard (and this may be totally untrue) that in the coming year or so the govt. plans on taxing gasoline to bring it up to about $3.50/gallon.  Has anyone heard anything like that?  Is it one of those urban legends???

Hey, Lisa, I'm sure you are right about the gas.  Don't forget, I had mine about 100 years ago!  It wasn't unpleasant, though.  Just outa this world.  LOL

I'm so glad that they stuff a tube down my throat during surgery while I'm under.  God knows what I would say if given the opportunity.

What did you wear?

Shirley, why don't you just call your doctor's office and ask if that is okay?  I would hate to advise you and tell you the wrong thing.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY FIT CHICK MARIN!

Oh, Marin, you are a Scorpio!!!  How fitting, you passionate thing, you.

Have the best day today.  May you be embarking upon a wonderful year.

Questions about reconstruction with implants using Alloderm

I don't know about your particular situation but Alloderm is used pretty routinely in implant reconstructions.   Some insurance companies may balk but I have heard that they ultimately give in and fund it.

Right on!  Let's see the eyes, Beth.  Surely you make up every day, don't you?  I cannot imagine starting my day without a bit of buff and puff even though it's usually only the squirrels and chipmunks that see me.  It's always on those days when you look like a rag that someone pops in.  Anyway, it makes me feel better.  Every little bit helps, especially when I'm feeling mean.........

I remember as a kid having dental work done, preceded by the laughing gas.  You get this funny smell and all of a sudden everything goes dark and you are swirling around in a vortex with unidentified stuff, going deeper and deeper until..........you wake up and your daddy takes you for a coffee cabinet (Rhode Islandese for coffee frappe) on the way home.

Really, the Novocaine injection into your gum only hurts for a little while.  About two seconds and it's over.  I agree with Lisa about wondering about the cavity.  Maybe you could have it checked again by someone else?  OTOH, chemo does things to a mouth.  You never know.

I've decided I really don't like my new glasses.  They hurt the sides of my nose.  Going back today for adjustments but I think these will just be a standby pair in case of emergency.  Botheration.

Look what they did with stem cells!

That is so wonderful.  God bless her and her doctors.

Knit a tit!

purplemb, I will knit some and send them to you.  I'll PM you about it when I have them finished.

In the meantime, what do you suggest for sizes?  The knitty pattern lists them by cup size.  Also, best materials?  I'm thinking washable soft wool.  I refuse to use acrylic.  And, should we make them by pairs or are singles okay?

A Crafty Christmas?

My godson, now 31, always loved a nice, cushy, warm and cuddly blankie.  I am thinking of knitting him a new one out of washable wool yarn.  BTW, he is all "guy" but still loves being pampered with soft stuff.

I am making a bunch of book thongs for friends.  Since I do polymer clay, I will use PC beads, etc. at either end.  You can just go to the store and buy cool beads, though.  Use waxed linen cord or something that will be strong enough but still lie fairly flat in between pages of a book.  Tie on some beads at either end and voila!  A book thong.

Make-up hints

Tried the L'Oreal tinted moisturizer yesterday.  It performs fine but is scented!  Like most of their products.  I don't know why I didn't read the ingredients before buying it.  I really cannot stand fragrance in cosmetics; talk about in your face.

Well, it was "free" so I will pass it along to someone who can use it.  Will use my $15.99 "bucks" to buy some batteries on sale.  With $20 battery purchase, you get $15 extra "bucks."  Maybe I can keep this thing going indefinitely.  Such a Yankee.

Checked online for ULTA locations.  None around here.  Closest is about 1.5 hours drive.  Bah, humbug.

JENNIFER ANISTON

Uh, I am missing the point.  Did Jennifer do something noteworthy?

Laura, HI!!!  We have missed you, too.  I hope you come back often.  And, yes, I do use the cream, etc.

What's an ULTA?  I guess I'll have to google that.

Hpw bad is the AC/T chemo, anyways??

Had 4 DD A/C last year at the age of 59.  No real problems although I didn't feel like going out dancing, if you know what I mean.

The worst part was approx. day 3-4 after treatments.  Then, I'd bounce back and be fairly normal.

It's shitty but most of us do okay.  And then it's over.  Yay!

Best wishes to you.

Mammogram After Reconstruction

Rose, my last mammo order was for the wrong breast.  I refused to have the wrong one done and the mammo tech had no problem doing the correct one.  I have never heard of going ahead with a faulty order just because it was written that way.

Mammogram After Reconstruction

I suppose it depends upon how much tissue was remaining after mastectomy but I think in most cases there are no mammos on reconstructed breasts, IN PARTICULAR on implants, as they might be caused to rupture under the pressure.

In some cases either ultrasounds or MRIs might be considered.

what was your follow up plan after chemo?

Yes, Bonnie, that is pretty common.  Apparently, they have found that the survival rate for those who get all kinds of screenings and scans is no different from those who develop mets that are picked up when symptoms become apparent.

This may change some day if and when tests/treatments for bc change/improve.  In the meantime, as your doc says, you are considered free of disease unless and until something happens.

Hmmmm.  I don't know.  But I would wait until my brows grew back before tattooing in case the tattoos hurt the hair follicles.

facial hair after chemo

It's called lanugo hair and it's what babies have when born.  It will go away even if you just leave it there for now.  Always some surprise, huh?

Fragrance?  About the only "modern" scent I can wear is Clinique's Aromatics.  Everything else I have tested or smelled in a magazine gives me a huge headache immediately.  I am obviously sensitive to something they are using as an ingredient.  It's funny, because I never have that reaction to any of the "old" perfumes like Arpege, Chanel, Joy, yadda yadda.  It isn't related to the muskiness or heaviness because I can wear all the old heavies like Tabu, Shamilar, etc.  What's going on?

Another CVS sale alert!  This week for CVS cardholders, L'Oreal Age Perfect Pro Calcium tinted moisturizer at $15.99 with $15.99 in extra bucks.  That's like getting it for free!  I don't use this but will probably go buy it to try since I will be getting my money in bucks back anyway.  A good deal.

BTW, I forgot that I also use Bobbi Brown lipstick.  It doesn't make my lips feel dry like the EL.

Hair Hair Hair - Another question

Ha ha.  I had the Skeezix look at first, too.  It does go away over time.  Well, actually, it doesn't go away it just gets incorporated into your new mass of hair.  If I look at my hair now, over a year out of A/C chemo, it is clearly growing up in front before it flops over and goes down.  This is the same way it was before chemo, just never really took note of it.

BTW, my brows only fell out once about 5-6 weeks after last dose of A/C (no taxols) but my lashes fell out fully four times, then a little at a time for a sixth time and now are falling out very, very slowly and coming back at the same time so it isn't noticeable.  This has been happening every three months.  Grrrrrrr.
