Tests, Treatments & Side Effects + Hormonal Therapy - Before, During and After, Created: Nov 15, 2008 10:52 am
Femara after TamoxifenElisabeth, thanks for replying. I know everything is a tradeoff. I've seen what osteoporosis and re occurance of bc can do. My mom had both. Her bc spread to her bones, lymph nodes, lungs and liver. I promised her that I would do whatever I can to stay healthy. Just had a bone density scan yesterday along with a hip xray, so we'll see if the actonel, calcium and mycalcin along with exercise did anything positive. The studies for f/u with femara are really encouraging. I am scared of the aches since I have them already. I'll get 2 months without anything and see how I feel, I hope to enjoy that time and ready myself to try something new. How does the Fosamax compare with Boniva? |

Femara after TamoxifenI've been on tamoxifen for almost 5 years now. My onc is suggesting Femara now. I have osteoporosis, already on Actonel. Think this started after chemo. Have a family history of bc and osteoporosis. Trying to weigh this one out, brittle bones or re occurence. Thinking I'd be better off with the broken bones. Currently have joint pain with tamox, hoping this won't increase. Anyone out there been this route? |

Joint Pain with TamoxifenI've been on tamoxifen for 4 1/2 years, 6 months to go!! I have stiffness especially in my hips and legs. It's not every day. Usually a hot shower, advil or stretching/yoga helps. |

i lost my mom last weekTwiddles, I'm so sorry to hear about your Mom. My Mom died in February at home with us. The pain sometimes is so great, but I find comfort sitting in her room. Every Monday, I re live the hours and yes, sometimes I don't believe that it really happened. It sounds like you had a wonderful relationship with your Mom, that is something so special. I am thankful and blessed to have had that too. Although she is not here now, I am so grateful that she was. My thoughts are with you. |

Help me to help my wife....My thoughts and prayers are with you, Deb and family during this really difficult decision making time. Hospice care was beyond helpful in helping us care for my mother. They were supportive to the whole family and very loving and gentle. |

hospice care has begunLittle Flower, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. She is at peace now, no more pain. May memories of better days comfort you. Every day something just seems a little different here. We have changed her pain meds again and this seems to work better. My sister is here now so we are all together. Dawn, thanks for your thoughts. The years go by so fast. |

hospice care has begunThanks Littleflower. I'm sorry to hear that you are going through this as well. Your words are comforting though, I wish I could comfort Mom more. Just last night the pain has increased and meds were increased as well. I know she will be back with Dad, she misses him so much. Thanks AnnNYC, sorry for your loss. It's wonderful that Grandpa made such an impact on your son's life. I know our loved ones will never really be gone, they are always in our hearts and actions. It is just so hard. |

hospice care has begunThank you everyone. My Dad passed on years ago. My sibling is out of state, but tries. We always told each other that we loved each other. She is the most unselfish person I know, besides my Dad. Thanks for all the encouragement, I will treasure every moment. |

hospice care has begunMom's hospice care started this past week. We were diagnosed together over 4 years ago, were radiation buddies. Mine was agressive, hers was not. Two years ago it started spreading to her bones, 6 months ago, her lungs, now her liver. She is now bedridden, very tired, little appetite. Instead of looking forward, we talk of the past. Her smile is still so beautiful. When I see it, I think everyone is wrong and that she will get up again although I know it's not so. |

Problems taking XelodaYou might try swallowing with pudding. Mom was having major swallowing problems and this worked well. I make the pudding with silken tofu in the food processor (she is lactose intolerant). Just a note the Xeloda has worked wonders and she's swallowing them with water now!

Xeloda and Dose?Mom is on her fourth round, 2000 per day, one week on, one off. She takes B6 and also we put on this stuff called Bag Balm. (We found it in Walgreens, it was used on udders) she's had some other side effects, but her hands and feet are fine. Markers have been coming down slowly. Good Luck

Start Xeloda todayMom is going on her 4th cycle of Xeloda. She's on 2000mg daily, one week on, one off. After her second cycle her c27.29 started coming down and has continued, slowly. Had CT & bone scans in mid-May, and again late July. Decrease in size of nodes. Tried Tamoxifen, Femara, Aromasin, & Faslodex. A few cycles of radiation as well. Continues with Zometa monthly. Mets are to nodes, bones, lungs, liver. Doing ok on it. Hope you see good results with no side effects!

Severe itchingHas anyone come across this. Mom now has mets to bone, lungs, possibly liver. Has been extremely itchy for several weeks now. Was on Xeloda (has been off 3 weeks) Have been on steroids and antihistamines but it continues. It's from the top of her head through her back and stomach. The steroids raise her sugar (diabetes) and the antihistamines put her to sleep. Any ideas?

Port Questionmy onc wanted me to keep it in well after my chemo ended. Finally, after a year I saw the other doctor in the practice and he asked me why it was still in. Anyway, I was VERY GLAD to finally have it removed.

Has anyone been prescribed Evista Yet?Four years ago Mom was diagnosed with bc. She has been on Evista for years prior for osteo. Her surgeon said that it looked like something has been stopping the spread of her cancer. He looked at her medication and mentioned that they were considering using Evista for bc. So, in her case it had worked.

BC Daughters and SonsWe're waiting for scan results too. We'll find out on Wednesday. Mom is having a wonderful day today, probably the best in over two months. We're just enjoying it. I try to not think about the results and just take it day, by day (sometimes hour by hour). Hope you hear good news.

BC Daughters and SonsHi Pam,
Mom was originally diagnosed 4 years ago. The past 2 years it spread to her bones, the past two months, her lungs and lymph nodes. She is quite the fighter though. Thank you for starting this. |

intense itching with xelodaThanks for the info. She is now on percoset, but has been down to a pill at night (luckily). She was on it way before the itching started. I'm glad you found something else for the pain.

intense itching with xelodaThey think this is a reaction to chemo. Scheduled for scans next week to see if treatment is working. If xeloda is to continue we need to find someway to treat this side effect or she can't continue. It is that uncomfortable.
