Anyone starting Chemo in August 07?Hi all, Just a note, had my 5th chemo treatment today. My 4th turned into a bad one, had a lot of breathing difficulties and was told I had to take leave from work,,,it was for the best as I can only tolerate about an hour of anythin physical and then I need to rest. My heart test turned out great, but my hemoglobin is low as well my wbc and platelets. My creatinin is high, so I am a bit of a mess right now. I hope this chemo is better and my 6th and last is Oct. 24th. Then I do 61/2 weeks of rads and I will continue Herceptin until July, but that will be a piece of cake. Kaye, I hope you will continue to come and lift our spirits after getting your last treatment. We will miss you a lot if you don't. And thank you everyone for the kind words about the twins, they really helped!!!! You are all so wonderful and I really appreciate you. Each of you are amazing, with everything you are going through, you still reach out to one another...what strengh and love.... You are all amazing. Well, sorry this is short, My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Hope we hear about Stacey soon. And I am glad this community is praying for her. There is such power in that. Well I amust go to bed. Carol Dx 4/27/2007, IDC, Stage I, Grade 1, 0/2 nodes, ER-/PR-, HER2+ |

Anyone starting Chemo in August 07?Hi all, 4th tx left me very drained. Scheduled for heart test on 24th. Hope things are fine. Onc thinks I just overdid after last treatment with the deaths and funeral and all. Have bad staph infection running rampant at the school where I work so I called in today. My blood counts were on the low side of normal and I don't want to take any chances. Only 2 tx left to go and radiation woo hooo!!!! Thanks for all of the kind words. My son lives in Oklahoma City, he is in the Air Force, and the twins were buried at Ft. Sill National Cemetery, very nice service. They were beautiful little girls named Aurora Dawn and Sierra Jade and will always be loved and remembered. So glad the lumps were okay, and all is well on that scare. Sorry about the dog bite. You know, I always worry about that stuff because I have noticed that chemo makes me smell different. Have you all noticed that? Maybe it is what I am on, but I do not smell the same to myself, of course my smeller is off like my taste buds are, so that could be it. Well, girls, love you all and think about you all but I am super tired so am leaving for now to go lie down. I will try to get better at this as I feel better. Anyone starting Chemo in August 07?Wow, I have been gone a long time and I come back and the forum is gone and community is here and I can't find you guys!!!! I was scared you all were gone for a while there. I hope you are still writing here. I have had a sad time of it. My son and daughter-in-law lost their twin babie girls. They were born too soon and were too tiny for OU Med to save. It was a very sad time and I found something worse than chemo and that is watching your kids in that kind of pain and not being able to do anything about it. Anyway, I have my 4th treatment tommorrow so hopefully will get back on here and talk to you all this weekend!!!! I have missed that!!! |

Connecting With Others Who Have a Similar Diagnosis + HER2/neu Positive Breast Cancer, Created: Sep 12, 2007 12:49 am
Can we do a Her2 roll call?I started Herceptin July 10, 2007 and will finish July of 2008. Was dx'd on April 27th 2007 with stage 1 small 1cm tumor. So had lumpectomy and 2 nodes removed which were neg for cancer. Tumor had clean edges but report came back Her 2 positive and hormone receptor negative, so am on 6 rounds of carboplatin and taxotere (with Herceptin for a year). After which will be followed by 6 1/2 weeks of radiation. Hope all goes well! Have fourth round tommorrow, have no hair and fingernails are changing colors, but I am still working everyday!!!!!! Amazing what we can do!!!!! |

taxotere, carboplatin and herceptinI am also experiencing unusual sensation this second time. Not only is the lumpectomy site sore but my neck where I had a lipoma removed two years ago is bothering me. Why would these areas be hurting? Are cells more fragile there or something? Maybe I am over sensitive or something but it seems weird, especially the neck. I have an appointment with my surgeon tommorrow, just a follow up, so I will ask him.
Hope your appointment goes well Lelsie, I will be thinking about you. I know I used to get the "lights" but they were opthamalogical migraines and am now on a very expensive migraine medicine called topomax for them. But hopefully you do not have anything that complicated!!!! Hope to be back on tommorrow. |

taxotere,carboplatin and herceptinAngie,
Fresh fruit is normally good for your and your body but is is a natural laxative. That is why it is better to stay away from them shortly after treatment. The chemo brought it on because it comes with the chemo (or it least it has for me my two times) no matter what I eat. But I stay away from things which will make it worse and I take immodium to lesson the severity. It wasn't near as bad this time as it was the first time, so I think my body may be adjusting. Hope that helps Angie, and good luck. I know it is not fun but it does pass and we are here for you!!!!!! |

Anyone starting Chemo in August 07?Wow, Lots of posts since I was last on. Welcome everyone new!!!!! We certainly are growing fast. Angie, we are in the same boat together except I am going to be grandmother of twins which keeps me going. But I am on the same drugs same Her 2 + Fish + ER/PR - and doctors scaring the crap out of me. But I know I am going to beat all of this and come out ahead because of all I have to live for and all I want to do in my life. It is still my life just different and I am going to fight like crazy to keep going through this.
Yes girls, report any strange feelings you are having to the nurse when getting chemo so they can act on it immediately. In my case, I was having a slight reaction to the taxotere which resulted in low back pain and so they slowed the infusion down and the back pain went away. But they wanted to make sure I did not end up with kidney problems. It is very important to communicate with your "team" because they are your team. Your in a fight together and they are partners. Drink lots of fluids, I can't stress that enough!!!!! That is the most important thing you can do for yourself to flush those chmicals out of your body safely!!!!! Good luck everyone, with your treatments. I am so glad we have each other. And Kaye....You are so right about the lemon water!!!!! |

taxotere,carboplatin and herceptinHi all,
Still doing okay after second treatment. Just not real hungry and a little diarrhea but nothing like the first round. I am not near so sick and haven't had to go to the hospital so I am very happy!!!!! So, 2 down and 4 to go then only have Herceptin and radiation. That will be nice!!! My boss and I had a very nice talk the other day and my work is willing to be very flexible with me during my treatments so that I can work as much as I am able but if I need to rest, I can do that also. They assured me that my job is secure and they want me to get well and they will help in whatever way they can. Isn't that the greatest? I am really touched by all the support I feel. I have a great job. Chemomom, welcome to this group. We are here for you if you have questions or just need to talk. Got to go for now. Take care all. |

Anyone starting Chemo in August 07?Hi all,
Feel pretty good again today. Have opposite problem on my chemo blend, good ole loose stools, so it is always fun, but it is nice to talk to those who can sympathyze with side effects whatever they may be. Good luck tommorrow Harley, I will be thinking of you. Just take in the fluids, that is is my biggest advise because they really do help the most with getting through it easier. Wearing the wig today so I could go to my Sunday School class. It was kind of weird as they seemed akward around me, but I told a few jokes to put them at ease and things got back to normal pretty quickly. Makes me wonder how akward it will be to go back to work when school starts back up next week. I feel so different now, that I know I must act different so of course others will be different. This really does change everything. Kidsmom, we will be family here now!!!! I know that my home family have said some really hurtful things since I was diagnosed (my aunt told me I am doomed to die), but I have decided that this forum family is where I am going to come for my support and real counsel. After all, you are the ones who trully understand and can give the best and most honest advise. Anyway, We are here for you and here for each other. Sisters in chemo!!!! |

Anyone starting Chemo in August 07?Hi all,
Doing well today and glad to hear everyone else is doing well also. It is always the unknown which gets us, but I am glad that all I am experiencing is being tired. No back pain anymore and no fever which is what I was concerned about. Everything shall pass and we will get through this and we shall be stronger for it. Isn't it amazing how powerful we women really are!!!!!!! |

Anyone starting Chemo in August 07?Kaye,
So happy all went well for your first time. How long were you in the chair? Take it easy for a couple of days, your body needs rest, fluids and TLC. My reaction to the tax was low back pain and have some concern that I may be getting too much. We will see. I did have some problems last time but it wasn't until a couple of days later and it was with a high fevor that landed me in the ER. I am doing well now, but am completely bald and am dealing with that now. Kidsmom, hope things go well with you today. I am thinking of you!!!!! Michelle, hang in there and remember we are here for you!!!! |

taxotere,carboplatin and herceptinhi all
New to this forum. Had my 2nd round yesterday and had a reaction to the taxotere so they slowed it way down. I had some real low back pain/cramping going on followed by multiple bathroom trips to uriniate. Then it just went away. Not sure what that was all about but makes me wonder. My onocologist gave me his home number and told me if I have any problems to call him at home and not go through the service. He wants to know and be involved in any treatments. I really wish I didn't have to do the taxotere because I think it I what gives me most of my negative symptoms. Well, I am almost bald and will work on shaving my head today. I guess it is my rite of passage dealing with this whole cancer thing. I sure am glad this forum is here because is nice to find people on the same chemos as me and see I am not alone in what I am experiencing. Also the good tips on what might be helpful to eat and drink. Are any of you working full time? I work for a school district and I am suppose to return soon and my 1st round, I was pretty sick, ended up in the ER and I am worried about the whole work thing. Just wondered how doable it really is. Well thanks for listening. 1.5 cent, lumpectomy, stage 1, 2 lymph node neg, ER/PR-, HER+, FISH+ |

Anyone starting Chemo in August 07?Hi all,
Chemo went okay except small reaction to the taxotere so they had to slow it down which meant 5 1/2 hours in the chair instead of 4 hours. But other than that doing great! Thought about you all day Kaye and hope things went well for your first time. Even more of my hair fell out. Now I have big bald spots so have made decision to shave the rest off tomorrow. It will be interesting! Welcome Kidsmom and Michelle. This is a good place to be and we are happy you have joined us. Kidsmom, I am not a teacher, but I am a para so in the same field. Work is going to be interesting this year. I hope the germs do not get me down. What age kids do you teach? I am with high schoolers. Michelle, healthy choices are avery good idea. Also, make sure you drink plenty of fluids. It will help flush the chemo out and it makes a world of difference for your urinary track. Drink a lot!!! Well, past my bedtime so will try to write more tommorrow. Hang in there!!!! |

Anyone starting Chemo in August 07?Hi Kaye,
My weekend was good, but Sunday my hair started falling out and is still falling out today. I guess I should have been prepared, but I don't really think you are because it still upset me a lot. My family is great and very supportive and is helping me through it, but it still is a rough time, plus my scalp is really tender. ouch!!! No, I did not get "emend" but they did give me something else IV for nausea, I just do not remember the name of it. I take an oral steroid the day before, day of and day after the treatments. 1st they gave me a small bag of Benydril to lessen possible allergic reaction, then they gave me the Herceptin. Next, they hung a bag with something for nausea, then they hung the bag of Taxotere, after that came a bag of Decadron (steroid) and then the Carboplatin and I had the shot of neulasta that same day. But it really worked because my blood counts have really stayed in the "normal" range. YEAH!!!! Carol |

Anyone starting Chemo in August 07?Kaye, I'll be thinking of you also!!!! Take a good book to read and get to know your nurses. They will have a lot of information for you. My appointment is in the morning central time, but my thoughts will be with you on that day!!!

Anyone starting Chemo in August 07?Extra long in the chair was eight hours for all three chemos. But the nurses told me that the next time will only be four hours which is still a long time. I did not feel sick at all during the infusion and even ate a nice long and went out after for dinner. The day after I was tired and two days after I had a bout with the runs which I took Imodium for and then I got sores down the back of my throat which made it hard to eat along with a strong metallic taste in my mouth. The sores were gone after a couple of days and a chloreseptic throat spray helped with those a lot. So over all, it really wasn't too bad. Just be prpared to rest a lot, and take care of yourself. We are in this together!!!!!!!

Anyone starting Chemo in August 07?Hi. I'm new here also. I am gettin 2nd chemo treatment on August 1 '07. I'm on Carboplatin, Taxotere and Herceptin every three weeks. Make sure that you drink plenty of fluids the days before during and after treatment ezpecially with the taxotere and things will be nicer for you. I was diagnosed 4/27/07 with 1 lumpectomy and 2 nodes removed. But was Her2/pos and hormone receptive negative. Suggest a neulasta shot if you can get it also. My first time in the chair was extra long because they like to make sure there is no reaction to the chemo. Prepare for things to smell, taste and feel different. There will be a new "normal".
