Problems with intimacy from chemo?

Thanks so much ladies for the suggestions. I have been avoiding sex because of the pain and bleeding. I actually cried the last time. My husband felt like a creep but it obviously is not his fault. I agree, I did not read about this side effect. Just another thing to add to the mix. I guess trying more often makes sense for the stretching factor. I hope it works.

Thanks again,

Lorene

Problems with intimacy from chemo?

Has anyone found sex very difficult/painful/impossible during or after chemo? I had no idea that this would be such an issue. My oncologist said that there is vaginal thinning and dryness from the chemo and she gave me some suggestions for things to lubricate. I have not gone to get them yet, and I hope that they work. Not that I have any sort of libido right now, but I feel bad for my poor husband. Now that I just finished my chemo, we are going away for five days in a couple of weeks. I hope I am able to function by then using the doctors suggestions. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I start Tamoxifin on 11/15 and I know that it will not be helping the problem.

Sorry to be so personal.

Anyone starting Chemo in August 07?

Morning all,

I have my third treatment on 9/20. Since last Thursday I have developed a cold. No fever just head congestion. Has anyone else gotton sick during treatment. I am afraid they will cancel my treatment. Should I call my onc? I really do not want to delay this whole thing. Just paranoid I guess.Foot in mouth

Chemo with no/little side effects?

Chattie,

I just finished my second round of A/C on 8/30. Fortunately, this is the only treatment I will need. I had a tumor that was 2.5cm. Other than that I had no nodes or anything else involved. (skin, blood vessels, lymphatic vessels all clear as well.) My oncologist said that because of the moderate size of the tumor and the fact that I have not gone through menopause (42 yrs old) that 4 treatments would be a precaution for the future.
My white count was on the low side so I had to do a shot of Neulasta. I was surprised since I am going every 3 weeks. However, at this point what difference does it make in the whole scheme of things. I am looking at the fact that I am half way through my treatment. Still no sickness this time either. I do notice that I am more tired though. I hope to exercise today. I know it will make me feel better! My onc and the infusion nurse both said that I may likely have no nausea/vomiting at all during the treatment. In their experience usually the fatigue is what is cumulative. I hope they are right. So far so good.
I go for my wig fittings/cuttings tomorrow. I don't mind friends and family seeing me like this since they know that I am OK. I just hate the pity looks in public. Hopefully the wigs will help with that!

Anyone starting Chemo in August 07?

I totally relate to the scalp thing. On Friday my hair started really falling out. This was the first time I noticed anything. It was 15 days post tx with AC. On Saturday I had my sister-in-law (she is a hair dresser) buzz it all off. I don't look as bad as I thought I would. Even my husband says its cute and not to bother wearing any covering if I don't want to. My 5 year old son was very upset when I told him it was time to take my hair off. However now that he has seen and felt it, he says he doesn't mind anymore. The most difficult part was watching him cry so hard when I told him it was time. It broke my heart. I am so glad he is OK with it now.

This is really the last of the drama. Once the treatment is over we will all have our hair back!

Take care and heart ladies,

Chemo with no/little side effects?

Ladies,

Thank you so much for all your responses. I am glad to know that others did not have a really hard time. Losing my hair will be difficult but I'm ready for it. My 5 year old son has some fear of my being bald so I am working with him not to be afraid.
For any football fans, one of my biggest dissapointments is not being able to go to opening day. I had been looking forward to this game for months! However, 65,000 people with who knows what kind of germs is not the place to being during treatment. Besides, tailgating without being able to drink is just not the same. (not that I even feel like drinking anyway) Instead, my husband got a 42" LCD for me to watch the game here at home! Bless him!

Thanks again for your help.

Chemo with no/little side effects?

I just had my first chemo on 8/9. My second will be on 8/30. I have had little if any side effects except for being more sluggish. (I am usually a ball of fire!) In total I will be having four treatments of A/C. My onc said that the fatigue would be cumulative. However she did not indicate that about nausea. Is it possible to go through this without any? I have not hair loss yet either. Does anyone know of this is in absolute? I have two wigs ready when the time comes. Also, I drink an enormous amount of water regularly, is this as helpful as many others seem to indicate? Has anyone else been able to exercise through chemo? I am a regular exerciser anyway, so it is not a stretch for me, however I have still been able to exercise several times a week even after tx.

I almost feel like I should feel worse that I do. Is anyone else not having a bad experience with chemo?

PS sorry to have so many questions

Anyone starting Chemo in August 07?

Hi I am just joining this group. I will be starting chemo on 8/9 for the first time. A/C every three weeks for 4 treatments. I have an appointment on Tuesday with a specialty salon that does beautiful wigs.(That just doesn't sound right does it?) I was fortunate that all of my pathology was clean. No nodes involved, nothing in the skin, blood vessels, lymphatic vessels. or the chest wall. Sadly, one of the four tumors was 2.5cm so that is why I am having chemo. I guess I'm as ready as I can be. My hair loss will be a real dissapointment but I'll deal with it. I am also having my expander filled and will have the final implant put in around the middle of November.
Just on a humurous note, before I knew I was having chemo, my husband and I booked a quiet chalet in New Hampshire for a romantic weekend. We're still looking forward to going but my husband will be taking a wife with a partial boob and no hair! I'm so blessed to have him though because he always makes me feel beautiful.

Low dose chemo

I had a left mastectomy on 7/9/07. Last Friday I got the final pathology report which indicated no lymph node involvment, nothing in the blood vessels, lymphatic vessels, skin, or chest wall. I was totally relieved! Then my surgeon mentioned that since one of my four tumors was 2.5 cm, she felt that the medical oncologist would recommend a low dose chemo. I somewhat tuned out at that point but I think she said a total of four treatments 3 months apart. I will call to reconfirm that today when I make the appoint with the medical oncologist. It is meant as a precaution I guess. I am very nervous about losing my hair as very few people know that I have been through breast cancer and I have a 5 year old who does not know. Does anyone know if a low dose treatment like this would most likely cause hair loss? Any help would be appreciated.
