AXILLA LYMPH NODE BIOPSY RESULT!Hi All, I haven't forgotten about all of you. Its been so hectic with dr's appointments. I don't know where to start! As you know, I had a needle biopsy already. Not satisfied, I asked for a second opinion. Got it and the surgeon seems to think there's is nothing wrong. I've had MRI's CAT Scans done and it didn't show a lymph node but the lymph node is there. It did show a nodule in my left lung. Okay, then I was sent to another doctor, actually the Medical Director and Radiation Oncologist at the cancer center near my home. He sent me for PET scan and of course, nothing shows up. The nodule on my lung is too small to be characterized, therefore, I have to go back in 3 months. Again, not happy that I had a needle biopsy, all of my 3 doctors (surgeons) - only for my lymph node- that I've seen agreed to go ahead and do a lymph node removal..YESSSSSSSSSS!!!!! The lymph node is extremely deep and I was told what could happen. I know, I know.... the consequences but I'd rather have something wrong with my arm than later find out I had something wrong with the lymph node. I'll be having my second biopsy on April, Tuesday, 8th along with a colonoscopy because the PET scan also showed something with my small intestines. The same surgeon will be doing it. So, I'll be at the hospital like 6-8 hours. However, if the surgeon finds something wrong with my intestines, then the biopsy will be delayed. If not, he will continue to do the biopsy. Also, at the cancer center I spoke with someone regarding BRAC tests. I did the tests and now waiting for the results. I tell you, the month of March alone I had 8 doctor's appointments. Besides all of that, I've seen a GI doctor and had an endoscopy. The lining of my stomach is inflamed and I have an infection H.Pylori. OI had a biopsy of my stomach as well and besides the infection nothing else is wrong. I also found out I am now a diabetic as well and my cholesterol is too high. Some of you may remember my results from before. I'm on medication for all of those complications. Soooo, as you can see I've been busy like a bee. My surgeon seems pretty sure that I am going to be fine but he said, "you never know." All of my doctors/surgeons/oncologist want me to have a "peace of mind" and concluded to have the biopsy/lymph node removal done. I'll keep you posted as soon as I can. Please keep me in your prayers! Much love to all, Mary |

AXILLA LYMPH NODE BIOPSY RESULT!Hi leaf, Right, that is what they want to check for. That I know of, everything is fine with my kidneys; however, you never know. I was told that is the same reason they want to check those tests -- because of the MRI dye. Thanks so much for your response Leaf! Mary |

AXILLA LYMPH NODE BIOPSY RESULT!Hi all, It's me, once again with an update. I called to have a bilateral MRI and it was approved by my insurance. What a relief!! It is scheduled for Monday, January 28th with a follow-up appointment with my surgeon on Friday, Feb. 8th for the results. In the meantime, I've called the radiology department to have them send my ultrasounds and mammographies to the hospital where I am going to have the MRI done. I also have an appointment on Thursday, January 17th to see my NEW primary doctor since I was not content with my other doctor. I was told I needed to have bloodwork done (BUN and Creatinine) as well prior to the MRI. Since this is a new doctor that I will be seeing I asked for a complete physical; therefore, having all of the blood work that I need is imperative to my visit. I also will ask for a ANA blood work since I want to recheck it. I am thinking that perhaps my enlarged lymph node has to do with Lupus. Remember my other posting? I'll keep you updated! Mary |

AXILLA LYMPH NODE BIOPSY RESULT!Thanks anneshirley, Jule and Lucy for answering back. I'm sorry you were diagnosed with BC and that they did not explained your pathology report. I tell you, it is so frustrating when you see something on paper and can't understand one bit of it. I did ask the dr. about the positive results with lymphocytes. He only told me that is what you have within your lymph nodes... duhhhhhhhh . The antibody CD20;CD3 he did not explained that to me. I've been searching all over trying to find some answers to the report. Ok, now some of you are asking.... why? It is there in b/w... B9! that is all i should want to know. BUT whenever I see anything that says "positive or few" in a report, I get concerned. Also, I was reading about Ki67- from my understanding is an antiboby that when stained it allows to have more complete determination of total cell cycle activity in lymphomas. It can be easily detected in growing cells in order to gain an understanding of the rate at which the cells within a tumor are growing. I guess the question is, do I have cancer cells that are growing slowly about 5%? Also, CD138 detects normal and malignant cells. Mine says positive in few plasma cells? what does that mean? do I have malignant cells? gosh, why is this so confusing? Am I reading the results of the antibody wrong? so, how can I be b9 IF the report says differently on some of the antibody's report. oh, and whatever it says positive, at the end of the report it has images of it. oh well, I guess I HAVE to trust the ENTIRE report. But, then again the "what if" pops up!! Have a blessed and wonderful weekend!! Mary |

AXILLA LYMPH NODE BIOPSY RESULT!Hi everyone, As some of you know I've been going through rought times. Finally last week on Friday I had an ultrasound guided needle biopsy for the axillary lymph node I've had for almost two years coming up in Feb. I went to my surgeon today and I got my report. It was found B9! I am somewhat hesitant about this diagnosis since it was a needle biopsy performed (on the contrary to what it says on the bottom of page - excisional biopsy) My husband and I asked several questions relating to how reliable this biopsy is. He informed us that is pretty reliable since it came back with a whole results. He sent me to do an MRI of both breasts just in case. I am so confused right now. Please do read the entire report since most of you (unfortunately) have some idea of what the report states. At this point, I am throwing in the towel. According to an article that I read, it states: "The doctor does not remove the tissue sample with a needle (needle biopsy). A needle cannot remove a large enough sample for the pathologist to diagnose lymphoma." http://www.medicinenet.com/non-hodgkins_lymphomas/page3.htm Mary Here is the report: Diagnosis: Negative for Malignancy - Inflamamationn: Severe chronic inflamation is present. Diagnostic Comments: cell block examined; rapid assessment performed; direct smears reviewed; immunohistochemical stains at US labs do not show lymphoma. The specimen has been submitted for a comprehensive consultation to rule out lymphoma. Microscopic examination of H&E section reveals multiple fragments of fibrocodipose tissue associated with several lymphoid aggregates and blood clots. The lymphoid aggregates are composed of mainly small mature appearing lymphocytes without obvious reactive germinal center identified. Some histiocytes and plasma cells are present. No brisk mitosis, necrosis or granulomatas are identified. The overall morphologic findings are suggestive of fragments of bening lymphoed tissue associated with fibroadipose component. To further evaluate this process and analyzed the lymphoid population, we have performed the following immunohistochemical stains and the results show as follows: PARFFIN SECTION IMMUNOHISTOCHEMICAL STUDIES (PMC-08-19) ANTIBODY RESULTS CD20 Positive in B-lymphocytes CD3 Many positive in T-lymphocytes PAX-5 The same staining as CD20 Bci-2 Positive in T-cells Bci-6 Negative Bci-1 Negative CD5 Positive in T-cells CD23 Negative KAPPA Few polyclonal plasma cells LAMBDA Few polyclonal plasma cells CD138 Positive in few plasma cells Ki67 The proliferation rate by Ki67 is about 5% Diagnosis: Tissue, axillary lymph nodes, excisional biopsy - fregments of benign lymphoid tissue and fibroadipose tissue - no evidence of lymphoma - see above immunostains and comment. |

Axilla Lymph Node UPDATEHi everyone! I hope the new year started in a great way for you! FINALLY, I had the ultrasound needle biopsy performed today. It lasted about an hour and the doctor took 5 samples. The first two samples went fine but on the third one, when he clipped, I felt a sharp pain/pinching down my right arm towards the back. I told the nurse about it when she asked me if I was okay (she saw my face in discomfort when it happened) but she didn't say anything else. Then, he took the samples to the lab and returned saying that he needed to have more samples. He then took two more samples of it. I have an appointment with my surgeon next week Friday, 11th for the results. Sooooo, the waiting period begins! I am feeling fine except some soreness underneath my arm and I get that pinching sensation in the back of my arm running down towards my elbow. Has anyone experience this? Could it be a nerve? Well, I'll stay in touch. Mary |

Axilla Lymph Node UPDATEHi Tender and Nik, Thanks so very much for your reply. I hope both of you, as well as the rest of the community, had a wonderful holiday! Both of you gave me great advice and I appreciate it so much. You have no idea how much I take to heart what everyone tells me and I read about. Nik, I used to live in NYC and moved to PA. Here, I managed to get into a program called Healthy Woman 50 Plus Program which is great. I am not 50 y/o but since I have a background they took me in. But, it is great that you gave out that information in the event there are others who may need it. I am also so sorry that you had to go through so much. It really touched my heart! Tender - I do hope Congress pass those pre-existing clauses. They should have an idea of what a person goes thru because of the clause. I am not exactly sure how long mine is and since I got the news that the program I am in will cover the biopsy, my husband did not call for info. I can't wait until January... a couple of more days... so that I can finally see my primary doctor and take better care of myself. I have some great news thus far. Last week I got a call from the clinic and was told the program I am in WILL pay for the biopsy! :) I went back to see the surgeon and he wants to do an ultrasound needle biopsy. I explained to him that I rather have the whole lymph node removed but he suggested we should go that way first. (It is a LONGGGG story) I am scheduled to have the biopsy on January 4th @ 9am. So, keep your fingers crossed for me. Take care everybody and may you and your loved ones have a BLESSED NEW YEAR! Mary |

Axilla Lymph Node UPDATEHi "Leaf" and "Newgirl" Thanks for writing back. I am trying to think positive and hang in there. However, as you perhaps read from my post, it can't hardly be considered. I am going insane and now I have the additional thinking that perhaps I may have another lymph node under my left underarm. I've been considerably patient but sometimes everything just gets to me. If it's not one thing, it's another. You guys know how life goes?! The good thing is that I started my own business from home selling Home Interiors products and that gives me a chance to form parties and sell individual orders. That has made my life a bit sane. I am trying to formulate a Fundraiser for breast cancer. Lets see how that will turn out. Take care and hopefully talk to you soon with better news! Mary |

Axilla Lymph Node UPDATEHi guys, I'm still around. Sorry I haven't posted sooner. Well, nothing much has been done. I was told by the surgeon to get a breast MRI but because of no insurance I was not able to do so. The plan I am under does NOT cover MRI's of the breast. Okay, so he then said biopsy could be done without the MRI... GREAT! but now the plan does NOT cover axillary lymph node biopsies. Only biopsies of the breast. So, now I am stuck. We received confirmation from my husband's insurance that coverage will begin in January/08. Great news right? wrong! I called the surgeon and they informed me that the insurance "Cigna" will not cover "pre-existing conditions" and that I am back to square one. So, I called again today and asked them if I were to go to my primary physician and ask him for a referral to see the surgeon, would that be considered a first time appointment? NOPE... they already have my records. Okay, now do YOU have any suggestions 'cause I am soooo frustrated! Happy Holidays to all and my all of your wishes come true in the New Year!! Mary |

Axilla Lymph Node UPDATEHill, I went to the clinic and the doctor told me the pimple that I have "just looks like a pimple on the surface." Watch it and see how it develops. Also, I went today to see the surgeon. He checked me and asked some questions. He told me I needed to check my gallbladder because it was too tender and I have to do a bilateral MRI. Upon checking my underams, he felt lymph nodes also on my left side! He asked me if I was aware of it and if it had been checked before. I told him I was NOT aware of it. The gallbladder test I have on Sunday, Dec. 2 and I am going to call now for the MRI appt. When asked about other symptoms and I told him what I was feeling, his face almost dropped and seemed lost of words until I snapped him out of it. He had a blank look. I told him about my night sweats, loss of appetite, lump on my neck, swollen right side (I still have it), fatigue, constipation, and everything else. He kept checking around my tonsils (around throat). I don't know if he felt anything but he kept rechecking it. He said there will be a battery of tests before he can do anything. This will happen over time. Until then, I just have to keep going back to him and run the tests he wants me to do. I'll keep you informed as soon as I get anything else back. Mary |

Axilla Lymph Node UPDATEHi Leaf, How are you? Thanks for your response. I may have had a pimple on my breast before but never on areola. This is why I am concerned. I called the clinic and made an appointment to see a doctor on Monday. The nurse didn't like the way it sounded since the pimple is on the areola and on the same side of my axilla lymph node. But, like she said, I can't be sure until I come in and have it checked out. I don't believe I Paget's disease because there is nothing that implies I have it. However, upon reading an article of someone's story about Paget's disease , it got me alarmed. This is what she had to say: "Mine started out as a single red pimple on the areola. One of the biggest problems with Paget's disease of the nipple is that the symptoms appear to be harmless. It is frequently thought to be a skin inflammation or infection, leading to unfortunate delays in detection and care." The rest of the article can be reat at the link below. http://www.statssheet.com/articles/article34217.html Until tomorrow, Mary |

Paget's DiseaseHi Minz, I don't know much about it neither and only came to know more of it since 3 days ago. A new finding on my breast. Perhaps is nothing. I have a red, small pimple on the top edge of right areola. The nipple itself feels sensative. No crusting or bleeding. Does anyone have any insight? Can you have a pimple on your areola without being anything wrong? If you go to "Axilla Lymph Node Update" you will find more of my situation. Best to all, Mary |

Axilla Lymph Node UPDATEWow Shannon, you and I have some things in common. I, too, have ulcerative colitis. What a pain, right? I was also on hep (that was the med I couldn't remember). I am really sorry to hear of your miscarriage. Once my insurance kicks in I can do more probing. We just sent back the papers and hopefully I will start the new year with my husband's insurance! Well guys, I went today to the clinic and got my referral to a surgeon for evaluation. I will be calling tomorrow (Wed) to set up appointment. I also received a copy of the imaging report. Here it goes! Ultrasound of Right Breast (Axilla) Lesion Real time ultrasound examination of the right axilla is performed. A 1.8x0.6x1.1 cm rounded, well marginated, solid structure is demostrated at the right axilla which has a similar appearance compared to the prior study of 9/13/07 and is suspecious for a lymph node. On a prior exam, this node measured approximately 1.6x0.6x0.6 cm. Just inferiorly at the right axilla a 0.6x0.3x0.7 cm rounded structure is identified with a central echogenic complex suspecious for a node. Impression: Two structures are identified at the right axilla which are suspecious for lymph nodes. The larger measuring 1.7x0.6x1.1 cm is without significant change compared to prior exam. End of report. May all of you have a blessed and safe Thanksgiving! |

Axilla Lymph Node UPDATEOh, about the DVT. I am not taking any meds. The doctors said it is superficial, however, because I've had a previous DVT after knee surgery, I have to be cautious. Back then, I was taking cumadin (?) and some othe med (can't remember the name now). No, I have not been tested for any clotting disorders. I guess something to think about. ;) Mary |

Axilla Lymph Node UPDATEHi Shannon, Thanks so much for your reply! Well, the clinic called today and I spoke to the nurse. According to the radiologist, everything looks fine. However, we briefly discussed my situation and I told her that I was supposed to have a biopsy when I lived in NY and I still want one. She immediately interjected and stated that she was going to tell me the same thing. No note from the radiologist indicated any biopsy thou. I firmly expressed to her that I want complete removal of the lymph node to be biopsied and she understood. She then told me to come in for a referral and they'll start the process. Tomorrow(Tuesday) I will go to the clinic for referral. A couple of minutes later a doctor from the clinic called but I was away. I tried calling back but they were closed so I'll be going to the clinic when they open at 12pm. Lets see what they are going to say. About the Lupus. At some point I was seen at the Lupus clinic, however, when the test results came back "okay" twice they decided to put me on some type of medicine "just in case" it was Lupus and it would slow down the process. Never took it! I just can't see myself taking some medicine for "just in case" scenario. They then told me that perhaps I should follow up with a rheumatoid doctor. I had many of the symptoms but because the blood work came back fine they determined it could just be arthritis. Yes, the rash on my face is still there and it shows more during the summer time, especially when the sun hits my face. I cannot be under the sun for too long because I get very short of breath. My husband's aunt has Lupus. It took her about 10 years to finally be diagnosed. So, I am not holding my breath. I am taking it as it comes. I am sort of giving up on my health because everytime I feel sick the doctors don't find anything wrong. Yes, at times I think I am going insane. My husband sees my making faces sometimes from the pain I am having. He asks me "what's wrong?" and I kindly reply "nothing." To me, what is the use. I am so sick of complaining and ranting. If I were to write everything I am feeling, you'll be reading until tomorrow. My posts are a fraction of my symptoms. But, life goes on. I am so sorry for my long post, but I guess it is time to vent. And, no better place than here! :) Tomorrow is another day. I'll come back with more news. It keeps me sane to read how others are feeling and knowing that I am NOT going crazy. :) Much love to all and have a great night! Mary |

Axilla Lymph Node UPDATEhi Shirlann, Thanks for writing back. Okay, the day is here and I just came back from the appointment. First, they did not do the mammogram because they insisted that my breast look fine although there is a lot of density on my left breast. They said, come back in a year. I asked why was I told that I needed to come back for a mammo and the nurse told me that they didn't know who told me to come back. Anyway, I am so sick of this that I gave up. However, they did the ultrasound and the lymph node still there. Measuring the same, perhaps one notch up but she said it could be because two different people measured it. Now, I have to wait for the radiologist report and be sent to my doctor. Perhaps by Friday I should know something. I explained to the tech doing the ultrasound what has been going on and she told me to insist to my doctor that I want to have a biopsy done. Well, lets see what happens! I'll keep you posted as soon as I have anything else. Thanks again, Mary |
