Please say a prayer for my best friend

GSG, I have great faith that the blessed virgin intercedes on our behalf.  I will say a prayer to our Lady of Fatima for her tonight.  God bless...

reconstruction size ?

Hi mack38,

I can't answer your question about the size but I know Dr. Robert Allen can do reconstruction using the thigh.  The procedure is called a TUG and you can get information by checking out his web site www.Diepflap.com.  I used him for my reconstruction in January of 2008.  I had SGAP buttock was my donor site.

Boston Plastics Docs

Hi acjslj,

I met Dr. Nigriny in November of 2007 he was  nice but he does not do DIEP he does a free tram which is not the same as DIEP.  This procedure uses a small amount of muscle DIEP involves only fat.  What I found is that he will only discuss what he is comfortable doing.  He never mentioned Diep and when I asked if I could use my buttock as a donor site he told me  that that could not be done.  I had SGAP in NY on Jan. 2008 and my donor site was my buttock.  He actually did me a big favor.  He scared the heck out of me which caused me to do some research online and thats were I discovered DIEP and GAP procedures.

Good luck at your appointment.  Ask lots of questions...knowledge is power.

stage II ?

Hi All,

I am finally having stage II on July 21st in NY.  I will be having nips and some lipo for contouring in buttock and thigh ( I had SGAP).  My concern is the 3 1/2 hr car ride back home folowing the surgery as this is a day surgery.  Has anyone gone through this and is there something I should consider?

Thanks much...

When does swelling reduce in breast?

Susan,  I had Bilateral SGAP (like diep) on 1/14/08 and I don't think my swelling went down until some time in April.  My right breast took longer than my left and sometimes they still feel a little swollen at the end of the day.  I also had that full feeling for several months.

Hang in there, it does get better Smile.

Shrinking breasts

This is possible.  I measured in February which was about 5 weeks out from surgery.  When did you notice your change.

FLAP IS GETTING DISCOLORED

Try not to worry too much but definetly call the doc.  My circles are much lighter then the rest of my breast I remember my doc also telling me that temperature is important.  Hope all turns out well.  Keep us posted...

Shrinking breasts

I was afraid this would happen and it hasYell.  I lost 10lbs, which I really needed to loose, and the weight loss is very noticeable on my breasts.  I lost about 2 i/2 inches off each breast.  This is not good because I was not large to begin with.  I'm having stage II on July 21st and I'm trying to figure out my options.   I can regain the weight, this will be no problem LOL,  and hope that the weight will find its way back up there and then have lipo in hip/buttock area or I see if PS will do fat grafts to breasts to increase size.  Don't know if this is possible.  Has anyone had any experience with this and what would you do? I had bilateral SGAP in Jan. 07.  I know this is a ridiculous post and I am so very grateful not to have anything more serious to worry about at this time.

Hope everyone is well...

haven't had stage II yet

gap flap anyone?

Hi Brendar,

I also had  bil. SGAP on January 17th w/ Dr. Robert Allen, he pioneered the procedure back in 1995.  I'm very pleased with my results.  I did have a complication on the 2nd day and had to go back for a 2nd surgery.  All turned out well in the end.  I was surprised that by the 2nd week is was feeling pretty good and able to do most things.  This surgery is very doable and it will definetly help that you are fit. If you would like more information on this procedure check out his website DIEPFLAP.COM it's very informative.

Best of luck to you...

Maria

Good luck.

Emotional Issues to get through before Reconstruction

Desny, I know exactly how you are feeling. I felt that way myself and second guessed myself about my decision to have reconstruction right to the day before my surgery. I considered many times just doing the mastec. and leaving well enough alone. I convinced myself I was doing it for my husband and not for myself. All I can say is I am very glad I did it. Now that it's behind me, I know that I would not have been happy without reconstruction. I am so pleased with my results and I feel very normal. It's not greedy or selfish to want to look like you did before cancer took your health away. You've been through so much already, if you feel that reconstruction will help you to feel better about yourself then do it. Don't feel guilty... you owe it to yourself, if this is truly what you want.

Reconstruction is not right or necessary for everyone but it was for me.

@#$%^&* my nipple!

Beth, sending a little prayer your way.  There is still hope that you're nipple will recover, have faith.  I developed an allergic reaction to the glue as well and recently I went a little crazy with application of bacitricin to a cut on my arm and that developed a rash.  It cleared up within a few days after I stopped using it.

Thanks for all the support you've given those of us who've gone through reconstruction.  Doesn't seem fair that you should have complications.  Sending you healing thoughts and prayers.

Be well...

Hey Dani! glad you're home again but, because of the heat, you're probably wishing you were back at the hospital...or probably not.  You're one tough cookie.  Hope things start to improve for you soon and maybe you can even have that beer by the weekend.  I'm wishing that for you anyway.Wink
