Just diagnosed with LCIS

Kimber

If I remember correctly, my oncologgist said I was ER+.  I 've had my period since I was 9.  I've taken the pill on and off for 30 some years.  My boobs went from a full B to a full D when I turned 51.  The weight gain is a big deal to me too.  I hate it.  I was always thin and never really had to diet..it's a good thing because I'm not good at it.  I jog and do spin classes + weights.  I was premenopausal (at 55) but have not gotten my period since I started the Tamox in July.

Just diagnosed with LCIS

Kimber..I do so remember that foggy feeling when I first got that call.  I had 2 biopsies back in the 70s that were benign and I just figured they would always be benign...ha

I got lots of opinions from medical friends and family and most were pro double mastectomy if I was Ok with it.  I thought I was but started Tamoxifen.  I "WAS" always such an optimist..can't happen to me kind of person.  This scared feeling is very uncomfortable.  I'm not good at expressing it except on this site.  I smile a lot.

You have to do what you feel most comfortable with for YOU.

I hate the weight gain on the Tomox and the hot flashes.  I use Tomox as a scapegoat for everything, especially my memory lapses.

I have no family history of BC and never worried.  During my last exam, my oncologist found a lump on the other breast.  I had an ultrasound done then which confirmed her finding.  I went for an ultrasound guided biopsy a few days later and they couldn't find it.

I made an appointment for a second opinion.

I rambled...I hope it makes you feel better...this site makes me jittery, nervous and comfortable all at the same time.  You get to see many different sides of an issue.  Keep checking it all out.

Bottle 'o Tamoxifen

The colonoscopy was nothing.  The prep was not pleasant...I did the pills instead of the liquid.  They give you a drug and you wake up when it is all over NO PAIN!

Are many of you joggers/runners?  I noticed several women were running to keep the Tamoxifen weight off.  Just curious.  I've been running for about 20 years.

Another Mamo and Ultra Sound

Wow You guys are amazing.

I have considered doing nothing and just forgetting about the whole thing (I could probably do it too). I've also considered bilateral mastectomies.

I had my first two biopsies over 30 years ago...no mammograms back then.  They were benign. (Right breast) My third biopsy, last spring was also benign but they found the LCIS then in my left boob.  Last Friday after a routine checkup my onc. felt something in my right boob-> ultrasound ->I need to have it biopsied.

I do get nervous but I am OK with surgery.  I have confidence in my onc but something is missing...

By any chance , Peaches, Ophelia & Maria is the surgeon that you see in Florida?

Bottle 'o Tamoxifen

Hi  Thanks for your info.  Basha, enjoy your painting. I hope it is comforting.  I teach so I'm off this week --> this not thinking is great:)  I use to work with cognitively impaired kids so I could slip by with my memory lacking but I now work with kids on the Autism Spectrum and I don't get away with much.

What is the vaginal discharge?  Sometimes I think I have incontinence.  I can hardly make it to the bathroom in time.

Thanks for asking Honeygirl..my biopsy isn't scheduled yet.  I just got the news on Friday that I need one.  This will be my fourth one.  The first three were benign but the LCIS was found.  We'll see what this brings.

HAPPY HEALTHY NEW YEAR to ALL

BRACA Gene

I have LCIS.  Would it be wise for my 2 daughters to be tested for the BRACA gene.  We have no family history of breast cancer that we are aware of.  My maternal Grandmother died at 50 yrs. from rectal cancer.  Mt paternal Grandmother died at 69 from pancreatic cancer.

Bottle 'o Tamoxifen

Hi

I've been on Tamoxifen since July.  I had some minor flashes in the beginning.  My period stopped.  I'm 56 and started menstruating when I was 9...way too much estrogen.

These past two  months I have had major hot flashes.  My face gets red and sweats.  I am GAINING weight.  My hair is OK.  My memory is off.  Years ago I took the pill to help this PMS memory fog.  It did help BUT it probably helped cause this LCIS too.

I did some mild whining to my onc.  When she did my exam, she found a lump on the "other" breast...ultra sound confirmed..waiting to schedule a biopsy.  No more complaining for me.

Has anyone else experienced memory problems beyond the normal everyday stuff?

You guys are wonderful...Thank you for always being here.  Cupcakes with nipples..scrumptious!

Where to go

Anyone know anything about the Lynn Regional Cancer Center in Boca Raton, Florida?  Is it up to Sloan and Duke's standards?

Wow  I really think that is it.  I've been on the pill on and off for 30 some years.  I never had a problem with it.  I used it in later years  for PMS.  It really helped those foggy days before my period.  Now I have LCIS.  My daughters have been talking about the estrogen in plastic water bottles too.

Thanx

I'm going to check out my insurance & Duke (Leaf, unfortunately i'm not wealthy)

Happy Healthy Thanksgiving

Any new research?

I am very very mixed up.  I try to be upbeat to others but my insides are churning.  I've had cysts removed from my right breast and everything was always fine. That was 30 years ago. I am (or was) an optimist.  Now at 56 I have  LCIS in my left breast.  I've nursed 3 kids and do not need my boobs but....do I want to remove them.  My Mom has Alzheimer's and I help out a lot. If I had surgery it would be difficult for my parents.  I was never concerned about getting lab results but now I am.  My last mammo showed a thickening in the left breast.  I have a MRI scheduled for Friday.  I guess it is the uncertainty that is bothering me.  If I was told they need to come off, I'd do it.  My doc gave me the 3 choices.  I'm onTamoxifin since July.

I am also going for a second opinion on the 7th.  Should I be going to a research center like Duke.  I trust my oncologist but do not love her.  I know I'm rambling but I'm not used to being so unsure of what to do.

You all seem so knowledgable and helpful.

I would be grateful for any help.  I live in South Florida..not close to Sloan

This is the newest research on LCIS.  Is there anything newer?

A follow-up study about 52 cases of atypical lobular hyperplasia and lobular carcinoma in situ of the breast]

[Article in Chinese]

<!--AuthorList-->Li HY, Ren GS, Arnould N, Brettes JP.

Department of General Surgery, the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, Chongqing 400016, China.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the biological behavior and treatment method for the breast atypical lobular hyperplasia (ALH) and breast lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS). METHODS: Seventeen cases of ALH and thirty-five cases of LCIS were reviewed from July 1982 to January 1996. All cases were followed by physical examination, mammography and B-ultrasound for an average of 146.6 months (range, 3 - 257 months). RESULTS: Most cases ofALH and LCIS occurred before menopause (about 69.2%). Fifty-two cases of ALH and LCIS were occasionally verified pathologically after surgery for benign diseases. The microcalcification with ALH and LCIS had been detected in 25 cases, accounted for 48.1%. Eight cases of ALH/LCIS became invasive carcinoma. There were 5 cases in the same breast, 3 cases in the contralateral breast; The subsequent breast cancer occurred longer than nine years after ALH/LCIS was diagnosed. The family history of breast carcinoma and ovary carcinoma occured in 4 cases of breast carcinoma, accounted for 50%, but it was no significant (P > 0.05). Also, there was no difference betweenLCIS and ALH, which occurred the breast carcinoma (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: The excisional biopsy might be necessary to ALH and LCIS.

I gained some weight but not that much.  I still got my period until I started the Tamoxifin.  I am 56 and started at 9.

You guys are so wonderful.  I really appreciate the support.  Between my 50th & 51st years I grew from a medium C to a full D.  I nursed 3 kids but that was in my twenties.  I now have LCIS.  I just wondered if anyone heard of this growth pattern before!

LCIS--close monitoring

I have a question....if our LCIS doesn't show up on Mamos why are they monitored this way?  Is it to see if it turned into a "REAL" breast cancer?

Did you do the tomoxifin for 5 years?

LCIS--close monitoring

I was diagnosed with LCIS in July.  I have been on Tamoxifin.  The results of the mamo I had on Monday showed a thickening of the breast near the lumpectomy scar.  I'm scheduled for a MRI.  Anyone famaliar with this type of situation?

My 2nd opinion at Major University

I have LCIS
I need a good team of docs. I live in South Florida. Sloan Kettering or Duke are the only places I know of. If I have to travel I will but it would be great to find some place close. I have no known family history of BC. Any suggestions?

My fingers are crossed & my prayers are with all you brave ladies. Thanx for this great site of support!
