Has anyone done MammoSite Radiation Therapy?

Thank you for posting, I'm glad to hear it's been used for so long. I keep reading it's being done in clinical trials, which doesn't make me too nervous. I'm doing chemo first, then the lumpectomy. Hopefully the tumor will be mush by the time we do the lumpectomy. I'd love to get out of doing traditional radiation, it sounds awful. I'll definitely follow up with my doctor. Thanks again!

Please, I need reassurance and details

I have one, as well, the surgery was easy and I don't even feel it now. One interesting comment that my chemo nurse made while using it was that some surgeons do a better job then others. Some put it in too deep so it's hard to access, and some put it right under the incision so it's awkward to get to while the incision is healing. I have what's called a PowerPort, and my surgeon did a great job, the nurses seem quite pleased with her work. I'm not sure how you can talk to your surgeon about this, but I guess all port installations are not created equal. I tell people that I now have Borg technology. Only the Star Trek geeks get that. Good luck, you'll do great!

Has anyone done MammoSite Radiation Therapy?

I've been doing some research, and it looks like you do it twice a day for one week instead of the standard 5-7 weeks of traditional radiation. I'm going to follow up with my oncologist, but I'm just curious if anyone has done it and what their experience was like. It sounds really good, minimally invasive and with few side effects and I'm wondering why it isn't more common.

Bringing friends and family to chemo

Does anyone else get to bring people with them during chemo? I've been inviting people to my chemo treatments, and it's turned into a bit of a party. My mom and husband are always there, and I invite friends and co-workers who drop in during the day. I can't tell you how much better it makes the experience. I think it really helps people understand a bit of what you're going through to actually be a part of it. The nurses don't seem to mind, and I think it helps them see me as a person with a life outside of cancer. Try it, it makes the experience fun instead of a punishment. The time goes so much faster, as well, especially if they bring you food! I even send pictures of the event to people who can't be there from my phone so they can join in the festivities remotely. In between visitors I exchange emails with people. Anyone else turning their chemo dates into something fun and social?

deciding lumpectomy or mascetomy

I was just recently diagnosed myself, and have already had two appointments with my surgeon and one with my oncologist and am just about to start chemo. Have they offered you the option of chemo first? I've said I want a lumpectomy, but so far no one one has asked me to decide. The idea of doing the chemo first is that it may shrink the mass and they would remove less tissue in the lumpectomy. Definitely consult with a surgeon AND oncologist if you can. I'm fortunate to have a comprehensive breast center where I live, so everything is in the same office and they can all communicate with each other. Is there something like that in your area?
