Inflammatory Breast Cancer

as with the other ladies, I am sorry your daughter has to follow us on this journey. Tell her the double MRM is indeed a crucial part of her treatment plan and she shouldn't hesitate about it! This is a big nasty green monster!  Have her get a referral to a REALLY GOOD breast surgeon who partners with breast reconstructionist to talk about options. While I chose to not do reconstruction at this time (I like "B" prosthetics for play, and "D" prosthetics for evenings! options are great!), my best friend (who also had IBC!) had TRAM flap surgery, new breasts built AFTER radiation was completed and 8 yrs later, they still look GREAT! Perky as all get out! And not a scar to be seen!

I have IBC...do you? Please Read!!!

Check out www.ibcresearch.org  .... I use their listserve and get all kinds of wonderful support from "yet to be met" friends who are IBC survivors.

I take Effexor 75mg for hot flash control ... and am on Femara (letrozole) with associated weight gain & aches.  Fish Oil supplements (recommended by GP) are helping with the latter.

Fatigue and Pain

You might check side effects for all the medications. I had aches & pains in joints, thought it was bone cancer (my big fear). When mentioned in support group meeting, others said they also had it. Research uncovered a report in Journal of Rheumatology(!) of a study of joint pain related to aromatase inhibitors. That led to further research & discovery that this is a known side effect in a large number of women taking these kinds of treatments.  NSAIDs help some - but oh! those damp winter days!  Good luck!

IBC and foot pain?

I had some foot tingling after chemo (A/C & Taxol) was completed, but it went away for a few months, and then started up again in both the feet and fingers!  Did some research and found out it could possibly be a side effect of the BP medicine I started taking at the same time (Lisinopril) ... have your wife check side effects of ANY of the meds she is on, it might not be chemo-related.

I now have "aches & pains" in all my joins first thing in the AM - athralgia related to the Letrozole I take.  It improves through the day but never really goes away. Price I pay for  the clean checkups.

Lymphedam & Tingling

I wear a compression sleeve most of the time. However, I still have some tingling and strange feeling in the armpit where 11 nodes were removed and where I had extra radiation treatments, especially on days after I have done a fair amount of driving. Treatments ended last July. Is this common?
