Shingles after radiationHi, I completed 33 rads 4 months ago after being diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer in January this year. I felt healthy up until a week ago and discovered that I had shingles on the right side of my face (near the jawline and ear area) . I am horrified!!! I did some searches on the internet and it looks like it could be a side effect of the radiation. Is there anybody out there that has also experienced shingles during or after radiation?

Radiation vs MasectomyHi Everybody, I just want to thank everyone who took the time to comment on my dilemma on making a decision for treatment. I really appreciate it, and it makes me feel less "alone". It truly is one of the worst times in my life. I have an appointment to have radiation in two hours, which I am dreading. But I will go through with it for now, and I will also make an appointment with a surgeon today for the mastectomy option an see where that takes me. At the end of the day I still think that mastectomy is what I should do. Love Lizal |

Radiation vs MasectomyHi Everybody, I have to start radiation treatment next week Monday. I have had small lump 0,4 cm removed via lumpectomy with no infiltration to the lymph nodes. I have hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer so I will be using Zoladex an Tamoxifen. I have a strong family history with breast cancer. I still am unsure if I am doing the right thing. Should I not rather have a masectomy and skip the radiation? The onc says the risk of recurrence is the same. But then you would not have a radiated boob and I could have re-construction. I do not know why I am still worried about my choice of treatment. How does one know for sure? Main thing is for me not to go through this again. Any thoughts???? |

Ovarian ShutdownNewly joining the forum: I am 46 year old and have been diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer in my right breast, a very small tumor of 0,4cm 4 weeks ago which has not spread to the lymph nodes. I had a lumpectomy 3 weeks ago. I have hormone-receptor-positive breast cancer and my onc suggested radiation, combined with taking tamoxifen and also the shutdown of my ovaries because of me being pre-menopausal. I know there are 3 methods to shutdown the ovaries but the onc seems to think that shutting down the ovaries with radiation is a good option while I am having radion of the breast area. I read somewhere that this method is rarely used. I would rather have the injection (Zoldex) for a gradual shutdown. I would appreciate any comments on the radiation shutdown of ovaries.
