Treatments for SAD

You know....I may have a touch of SAD, cause when the day is shorter my energy level definitely goes down. During the spring and summer I'm usually full of energey and when fall comes around, I'm a totally different person.   I noticed that if I let my energy level control what I do then my energy level goes down even more.  Despite how I feel, if I push myself to exercise especially brisk walking outdoors during the day time,  that definitely helps to increase the energy level. Exercise seems to help with alot of ailments.   Best of luck.

Modified Citrus Pectin

Last visit my naturalpath suggested that I add Modified Citrus Pectin to list of supplements I already take.  Has anyone heard or taken this?

Essiac Tea

Actually I just asked my naturalpath this morning about Essiac tea and she said that it is wonderful to clean out the lymphatic system but doesn't taste very good.  She suggested that I buy it from a company called Flora (Canadian Co) follow the directions it comes with and only need about 1 oz. daily.

More info on supplements adn BC

I pulled this info from the Healthnotes data base that I was able to get into through the Vitamin Shoppe website.  It discusses the various supplements that are usefull in breast cancer.  Thought I would share the link.  I recall my naturalpath once told me that the "Healthnotes" database has alot of useful information on disease and supplements.  I have used and found this database useful as a guide on how to treat various ailments such as colds, flu, ear infections etc but this is the 1st time I read the breast cancer suggestions and they're pretty interesting.

Abdominal CT scan

I wasn't sure where to post this so I hope I made a good judgement call.

Does anyone know if an abdominal CT scan covers any of the rib area or does the scan start below the ribs?  I've been having pain on the left side that is located just below my non cancerous breast (starts in the rib area) but extends about 1-2" below the rib area.  My GI doctor ordered a CT scan of the abdomen and pelvis but now I'm wondering if I also need a chest CT scan.

Now I've had the H.Pylori bacteria and have had treatment but my symptoms only improved slightly so my doctor wants to cover all bases on her end.   I don't want to drive my doctor crazy or question her judgement if it isn't necessary. Any input would be appreciated.

Dense Breasts Ask for MRI

I have very dense breasts so my breast surgeon's follow up plan is digital mammograms every 6 months and annual MRI's for the next 2-3 years.  You can never be too cautious.

Has breast cancer changed the person you are?

Everyone please vent it makes all of us feel better.... Yell !   Atleast I don't feel like the only one who's pissed about having had bc.

One of the changes in me is that I do try to enjoy the present without anticipating the future as muchLaughing.  Actually, I'm scared of anticipating what the furture has in store for meCry.  I definitely make more time to spend with my children and arrange for more alone time with my husband.

And most importantly, every F#@&in  ache and pain I now feel, I fear the absolute worstCry.  I don't want to run off constanly demanding scans, my doctors' will think that I'm nuts and too much radiation isn't good for anyone (especially after having radiation) but neither is the stress of worrying.  When will I trust my body again?  As far as friends and family there's no support there because as far as their concerned one day they act as if I'm cured but at times they're telling me that have been praying for me but they never call to see how I'm doing. So I'm confused...am I cured or what?????    My sister (she's 18 years older than me) who lives out of state never called me through this whole ordeal but when her son's got married this summer, I received wedding invitations .... what the f#@&k??  I was going to respond that I'm too busy dealing with cancer but then I told myself why waste the energy and through the invitations out. Actions speak louder than words  I'll stop here cause I can see myself writing a book, may be I should???  If it became a best seller, that would be a positive experience from bc wouldn't it???

Everyone says it gets easier with time...does it reallyUndecided?????  I'm still waiting for it to get easier............Yell

indole 3 carbonol

I take Indole 3 Carbinol by a brand called RX Vitamins.  This is the brand of Indole 3 Carbinol my naturalpathic physician likes.  I was instructed to take 1 tablet daily on an empty stomach.

I have ordered this brand on line since it is cheaper on line than at my naturalpath's.  If you want to know the company I ordered from just let me know and I'll dig up the paperwork/receipt.

DCIS and Her2+

There is absolutely no reason to freak yourself out...honestly.   I have been told by many doctors and have also read the the majority of DCIS is Her2+++ but for DCIS the Her2  has no meaning since the cancer is contained and non-invasive.  Actually pathologists should not even test DCIS for Her2 since it's a non invasive cancer. Also, with a grade 2 tumor you chances of having a microinvasion less than someone with a grade 3 tumor.   I'm sure others will come along and tell you the same.  And even if you end up  having an invasive component that is her2+++, now there's Herceptin, which has rewritten the history of her2+++ tumors.  Most of the information on the web about her2+++ tumors is outdated and was written prior to Herceptin.   Also they're working on a very promising vaccine which is currently in clinical trials for her2+++ tumors.   Hold tight and don't worry uncessarily.

Wishing you the very best in your journey.

Juicing for BC?????

Acai is also great with green tea!  I make green tea in a large mug and add about 4 oz of acai berry w/blueberry to my tea; it's delicious and full of antioxidents too.

Curcumin Anyone???

cp-

it may have been me, I know I have posted about NOW products being good quality and very reasonably priced.   My naturalpath says that NOW products are excellent and is one of the few companies she recommends.  Also my sister and brother-in-law are both naturalpaths who highly recommend NOW products.  In addition, my local health food store owner showed me an article on the NOW company and how they won some type of award for their products back in July-August.

Curcumin has shown alot of promise for its anti-cancer benefits and some cancer centers are now incorporating it into their trials.

For those who have issue with their gallbladder, it may not be recommended.  You may want to research that if it applies to you.

Aspirin, Ibuprofen may lower bc risk

Wow LizM, your screen name is almost like mine.  I think once or twice someone confused us in a posting.

Well anyway, I too have read and have been told that keeping inflamation down is important with breast cancer.  However, most of the NSAIDS can be tough on the stomach.  There is a product that my naturalpath recommends to me, it's called Zyflamend by New Chapter.   It's a natural anti-inflamatory that's not tough on the stomach and can be taken long term.  There are a few doctors who are into alternative medicine who recommend taking it if you've had breast cancer.  The names of the doctors excape my mind but, I think one of the doctor's is Dr. Weil and some doctor by the name of Christine Horner who in her book recommends taking it on a dialy basis.  Zyflamend can be used just like any NSAIDS and can be taken long term. Most of the time I now use it in place of Motrin.  It does have blood thinning properties.

Here's some info on it: http://www.healthy.net/scr/Column.asp?Id=663

Wishing the best.

shoulder pain

Count me in too.  I develped costochondirtis this summer and along with shortness of breath, this scared me to death to say the least.  Had chest CT scan, negative so diagnosed with costochondritis told it will resloved after 2 weeks of taking motrin.  After a few months costochondritis pain is gone, took alot longer than 2 weeks as the doctors said.  Still experiencing shortness of breath at times, primary doc orders another CT scan to rule of pulmonary embolism, negative.  Just saw pulmonogist Oct. 10th, did pulm. function test which came back fine.  Feels isn't cancer related. Primary feels it's radiation related. Now what do I do???

A few weeks ago developed back, hip and knee pain, saw oncologist she wants me to do physical therapy and may be see an orthopedistist. What complicates things is that I carry my 35 lb toddler on my left hip all the time and have been since March because my right side is my surgery side and lymph node removal side. Wearing a back support belt for support to do regular dialy activities or else extremely uncomfortable and feel burning and a kink in my back and sometimes pain radiates to arms.  I know that sometimes it there's issues with the spine it can cause pain to radiate.   Can't get in to see an orthopedist till mid. December at the earliest. Called physical therapy facility, never called me back after finding out I had breast cancer and no MRI or other imaging.  Now what do I do?  I just turned 39 this summer,  am in good shape, exercise regularly, not overweight but have alot of aches and pains.  This is so scary and frustrating and  very stressful.  One oncologist just wants to put me on antidepressants, she thinks that's my solution. The other oncologist thinks that I'll be fine since my cancer was caught so early.  I'm trying to be patient and not crying wolf all the time but it's hard not to.   I'm fine emotionally until I get aches and pains that don't go away.  After having breast cancer it seems like the aches and pains are complicated. Sorry for the rambaling and the typos but just needed to vent and trying to type really fast.

small (<8 mm) HER2+ and chemo?

bc-

here's a link to the National Cancer Comprehensive Network Guidelines.

http://www.nccn.org/professionals/physician_gls/f_guidelines.asp

Click on breast cancer and you can see what is recommended for your particular diagnosis.

I think you fall right on the border between chemo and no chemo according to the printout I have from last year from the NCCN.

As AlaskaAngel stated the www.hersupport.org is a great source of info for those who are her2+++.

Wishing you the very best in your journey.
