October 08 ReconstructioneersThanks Linda54 . I tried no Tylenol so far today and my brain is coming back. I have to be careful with my back as the tailbone is sore probably from the tummy tuck so I lurch around the house and lean over a lot, and standing for long times is hard. And Sprtwareor, thanks for putting me on the Oct. list, it makes me feel like I had some company, part of that darned old endurance test that we are on. I am thinking of looking in my closet to see what outfits I can pull together. At least my left arm reaches up since I had the SNB in May. I painted my toenails for the doctor visit Tuesday since I am in FLA and my breast JP fell out from me bending down on the lawn chair!!! Keep on fighting and smiling and lifting spirits!! wondering7 |

October 08 ReconstructioneersHi Ladies, Thanks for you for your kind thoughts. Drains came out Nov. 11 so now I can wear regular clothes again only larger in the pants since I am still healing. Everything takes time. I am in slow motion but my hubby drove to the docs on Tuesday so I got to get a car ride and then we went to Walmart and I drove a buggy while shopping for fruit and yogurt and low cal treats. I am not allowed any caffeine, chocolate or soda until mid-Dec. He did tell me I could use my stationary bicycle. I am just coming through the shock of this year!!! wondering7 |

Not Diagnosed but Concerned + Waiting for Test Results, Created: Nov 12, 2008 03:44 pm
I'm 29 and I'm really scared!!!Hi I don't. I am in Florida. The best I can offer you at this moment is to try to calm down because it helps you to think better. Also get some exercise to burn off the anxiety or go to the movies. I have just finished a mastectomy and breast reconstruction at 58 and did chemo over the summer. It has been an endurance test of a year. The strangers on this site are probably the most honest women you can talk to and there are lots of us all wondering why us? And how do I proceed? The good news is that you are on your way to be taken care of and yes it may take over your year so at least realize that and understand you can do this. You can fight. I did and I am glad I did. So is my husband and 19 year old son. It seems cancer is not just for old people anymore. It is a not a them problem but an us problem. I am also an aquarian and saw my year pass by once I knew . Don't blame yourself, just open your mind up to the possibilities that you will continue to go on the right path. Be strong. Get angry. Fight back. You can do this. And the doctors want to help you very much. They care. I have met a lot of great doctors and medical staff this year who saved me and that makes them feel good. Relax, accept , listen, talk, take action, survive! You could ask the medical staff or American Cancer Society about support groups or just google your area. That would be the starting point and good luck and God Bless You. wondering7 |

October 08 ReconstructioneersHi Ladies, Been hiding out in th hospital and home since surgery Oct.29, got home to watch the election. Left breast reconstruct with a Diep. What can I say.? I am still on the endurance test but working through it. Serious drugs and non movement right after op to allow the artery to bond in my breast. I did not move for a couple of days!!! Anyhow they got me moving slowly and gave me a walker to relax my back and provide support and let me come home by the 7th day. Everything is slow motion for me now. Got off pain meds by 6th and switched to advil at night. Have slept a lot to wear off the drugs and recoup the shock. I think it is working. I have to use my right arm for all my in and out of bed/chairs/couch stuff with my feet pushing. It is not like me to lie around or rest a lot so you know I have given in. I had clear margins from the mastectomy and the previous SNB op was negative. Not sure how much slimmer I am since I feel I can't use my stomach muscles much yet but that is the least of my concerns now. Hopefully drains come out on Tuesday. Oh yes and I have a big left breast that may need adjustment but again I am not worried about it now. It just feels nice to have a breast again. I feel whole. I would reccommend this Diep if you have a qualified surgeon as I did, but it is a serious operation and you need to plan it when you have down time so I would suggest planning it at the least busiest part of your year or at a time when you have someone around to help out with meals because I find doing anything just now to be a major event!!!! Thanks to all of you for caring. Likewise to you on your endurance test. Who knows why.? I was told by a nurse friend at the hospital that she only works with the brave and that is all I thought about before the op when the docs came to make their preliminary decisions before I was put under. So stay brave, it works for me!!! |

October 08 ReconstructioneersHi everyone, I had my mastecomy yesterday and am home now.Pain is holding under darvacet and I am resting easy but can walk.Little pillow under arm is nice. I did not have the DIEP because it got to be too late in the afternoon so It is rescheduled for this wed at 9:30am, so I am taking it easy until then watching for changes and temps. My spirits are good, my doctors are very kind, so I will feel okay for part two. I will let you know how it goes. Last week I bought a large sit up pillow with side arms at bed bath and beyond for $10 and it holds my back weight on the bed or couch or lounge chair and I can cushion it with other pillows. A mastectomy friend told me that one. I also bought some soft low rise velour pants that you can roll at the hip in case that works under the scars and a velor sweatsuit at Penney's for 2 for 1 sale. I also went to the Salvation army and bought 3 pr of large oversized pants with soft elastic for $6 to accomodate drain space. I have an old lanyard for hooking on drains. I have 2 old lady zipper front housedresses from wal-mart for $10 each for roominess and in case they get dirty, and slip on shoes. I have some large oversized shirts to hide drains and swollen tummies I have my tinkerbell pin, a tv crossword puzzle book and a copy of Patty Boyd's memoirs of George Harrison and Eric Clapton. Hope those ideas help some of you to cope. Won't really know until I do it so I will let you know after Hallowe'en!! But I am here until Tuesday pm. wondering7 |

October 08 ReconstructioneersThanks to all of the kind thoughts and words of support from this group. I am taking all of the positve energy from all of my well wishers in to surgery to boost my psyche and energy. I am trying not to overthink this so I will be relaxed as much as possible. I have good doctors. They have good drugs and I will be taking them. I am sure there will be an aftershock but at least I will come out healthier, so I do not want to dwell on the surgery, just the healing. I am memorizing several words to survive this weekend --- Drugs please, TV remote, Sennekot, and Thank You. I am not sure when I will post again as I get ready around the house for my return but my I wish all of you well, and great success. There is some comfort in knowing that we are all sharing in this endurance test for our health. I found a Tinkerbell pin that says it for me "Faith, Trust, and Pixie Dust" so I wish that for you all as well. Wondering7 |

October 08 ReconstructioneersHi Sprtwareor. My date is October 24 for a left breast mastectomy and a DIEP. I am not dwelling on it this week only getting myself organized. I have confidence in my doctors, have boosted my Vitamin C as the surgeon requested and am focusing on good nutrition and enough sleep so I can be in good form. I understand that the first 24-48 hours are critical for the DIEP so I will be asking friends and family to talk to my husband and let me rest during that period as I will be recuperating for 4-6 weeks? there will be lots of time to talk. And I am telling everyone to think positive thoughts, as I do for all of you. wondering7 |

October 08 ReconstructioneersHi As I wait for a surgery date I am working on being less emotional and more of being grateful for help with this silent illness and I am encouraged by all of the ladies here who are facing what I am facing.Heroic seems appropriate! If nothing else our volume shows strength to each other and our decisions are good . I am sure I will be posting here to ease my mind. I know that this time I will not fight the drugs!!!!! But I have confidence in my surgeons so really the rest is up to me to give in and let them take over and be as healthy as I can be. Good luck to everyone. wondering7 |

October 08 ReconstructioneersHi I will be joining you all soon. I had a lumpectomy but I am grade 3 with negative SNB but too invasive to worry about leaving in there. I am going for left breast mascetomy only since I am clear everywhere else. Should I be worried about the right breast? The PS said he could do a DIEP. This will probably happen in October. I have confidence in my surgeons but who knows how to predict the future. wondering7 |

Tips for getting through chemotherapyBump I finished chemo and had to fight an infection and am now scheduled to meet surgeon again. My advice is go with the flow, eat what feels good, rest, have fun when you can, and do not overthink things. My short term memory is laughable at times so do not try to do important things, let someone else do it! I realized just how much my husband and son love me during this time in spite of all of the competitve stuff we used to go through, and clearly I could not move forward without their umbrella over me so be kind to those around you. They learn patience also. Also be gratreful for people like Nico1012 and Rock the Bald, and others who are so caring for the cause of helping us all, I have been a little scattered this past month and will be so now as I move to surgery which is why I have not posted for a while. IT seems that I just start to feel better then I have to go through another procedure. But is is worth it and I stay positive. Chemo has zapped my energy but taught me to relearn what is important. And I have been watching the olympics wishing I was young again. Stay on the road to recovery. Be a fighter!!! I wish you all well. W7 |
