Constant Discomfort with Implants

Hi Paula & Anne,

Im sorry you are both still having pain.

I have pain pretty much from the side across the front to the other side.  I have swelling still on both sides- where a bra would sit. Been there since my BLM in May of 08. Some days the pain  is worse then others.  The sewlling has gone down - but not away- It may be just skin now- but it always hurts.  I have more of a Tightness iron feeling in the front. (exchange was only 2 months ago)

If I went with a Flap- I cant imagine the side pain going away.

Since my Implants are almost a uniboob- All bras are uncomfortable- some more then others.  They hurt in the center & on the sides.

I have plans to get my Implants switched & new pocket work done to fix my uniboob in July of 09.

What If I am still unhappy- even though they look better after the redo...

I too find it very hard to sleep through the night.  I have not found a comfortable way to sleep.  I usually sleep off & on all night.  I take Melatonin- that helped me sleep before my Exchange- its not helping anymore & I have upped my dose.

stupid heart dr!

Let us know how your Scan goes today Jill!

it will suck if you have to wait until Monday for results.

I have used a 'Plastic Spacer' for my Belly ring when I have surgery or tests.

Probably too late for you to go buy one (I got mine at Hot Topic)

December Reconstruction Ladies

Im not there now Spring.  But I almost lost it about 1 week before my BLM in May.  I was so scared of the surgery.  I think the fear of waiting & the unknown makes it much harder then it really is.   I knew It was the right decision for me & thats what kept me 'Sane'.

Good luck!  I will be gone the 1st week of Dec.

So I want to wish everyone who is having surgery that week a very good & smooth surgery & recovery!

December Reconstruction Ladies

Hi Jasminn- Most women that have just a BLM without reconstruction say it is fairly easy.  I think women tend to have more pain with Expanders being placed- although some dont have nearly as much as others.

You might want to start a thread with that in the Subject line- BLM with & w/o reconstruction ...Some women have expanders placed sometime later...But that is different then having Immediate.

You may find someone that had a single Mastectomy w/o reconstruction & then later had another mastectomy with reconstruction...To compare the recovery.

MarketingMom- nice to see you post.  I think You will be ok entertaining for the Holidays- being it is a pot luck.  I was back at the gym in 10 days.  I do think you will get very tired from the big day- But we all know you will probably have help : )

Who has had the BRCA test?

I decided on a Bilateral M before I was tested.  My Negative results came back a week before my Surgery.  I was Set & happy with my decision on my Surgery & relieved for my dds (darling daughters)   I know there are Genes that are still unknown...But testing neg. for BRAC 1 & 2 was still a relief.

I only have a small family history- My Dads Mom.

September Reconstruction Ladies

Hi Sheila-  Sorry I am just seeing your post now.  Im sorry you are having such a hard time.  How scary to have the embolisim.

I was on Plavix for 3 wks after my BLM because I had just be DX with a PFO (a Hole in my heart) and an ASA an Atrial Septal Anuerism (a weaking of the Heart wall- Floppy) So I am at increased risk for stroke.  But I had severe SE from the plavix & took myself off of it- as my Drs nurse would not get my message to him & I could not continue with the SE- my dh was ready to take me to the ER 3 times in a week.

I put myself on 325mg aspirin.   I have had heavy periods before in mylife...And they are back these last 3 months.  I had only a week inbetween this last time.  Im not sure if it is from the aspirin - or just because Its what was going to happen anyways.  But it sucks- I know.

If you go to healingwell.com there is a forum for Cardiovascular & heart issues- maybe someone there can help you with your questions on blood thinners as almost all of them are on at least one of them.

How often will the check you to see if your clot is gone?  do they do that with an Ultrasound?   Good luck today at  you GYN.  Let us know how it goes.

(they only found out about my heart problems because I told my 1st Onco- I have had a TIA & I am concerned about my stroke risk with Tamox- He said well lets see whats up & ordered the test I needed & found out about my PFO & ASA.  I had been telling Drs about my symptoms for 10 years!  Shortness of Breath & Fatigue & no one had figured this out.  Makes me so mad)

unhappy with implants

Thanks Ladies for the nice thoughts & Bday wishes.

I feel so releieved knowing that I will have the easier procedure!  I know Ill be terrified when it gets closer.  But the stress is less today then it was yesterday.

Yep HKitty- I will have this surgery on Dec 29th.  it will be out patient- although I will have to lie flat on my back for 5-8 hrs in the hospital  after the surgery- Id rather just stay the night.  I have not found one person who has had it as an out patient.

unhappy with implants

Thanks HKitty71. Smile

Today I finally had some good news.  last week I had a a Transesophageal  Echocardiogram & it showed the hole in my heart as being in a dfficult place to repair...So they thought they may have to do open heart surgery.  I was pretty much a wreck since last Tues.  Friday was my bday & I sure wasnt in the mood for celebrating.

But today My Cardios nurse finally got back to us & said my Dr feels confident that he can repair the hole through a Transcathetor  Procedure (like how a Stent is placed)

So a surgery I was before dreading- is sounding alot better today- LOL

dog lovers

Here is another that fits with Dog Lovers & us BC ladies:

Lucky the dog

Mary and her husband Jim had a dog named 'Lucky.'
Lucky was a real character. Whenever Mary and Jim had
company come for a weekend visit they would warn their
friends to not leave their luggage open because Lucky would
help himself to whatever struck  his fancy. Inevitably,
someone would forget and something would come up missing.

Mary or Jim would go to Lucky's toy box in the basement
and there the treasure would be, amid all of Lucky's
other favorite toys. Lucky always stashed his finds in his
toy box and he was very particular that his toys stay in the
box. It happened that Mary found out she had breast cancer.
Something told her  she was going to die of this
disease....in fact , she was just sure it was fatal.

She scheduled the double mastectomy, fear riding her
shoulders. The night before she was to go to the hospital

she cuddled with Lucky. A thought struck her...what would
happen to Lucky? Although the three-year-old dog liked Jim,
he was Mary's dog through and through. If I die, Lucky
will be abandoned, Mary thought. He won't understand
that I didn't want to leave him.  The thought made her
sadder than thinking of her own death.

The double mastectomy was harder on Mary than her doctors
had anticipated  and Mary was hospitalized for over two
weeks. Jim took Lucky for his evening walk faithfully, but
the little dog just drooped, whining and    miserable.
Finally the day came for Mary to leave the hospital. When
she arrived home, Mary was so exhausted she couldn't
even make it up the steps to her bedroom. Jim made his wife
comfortable on the couch and left her to nap. Lucky stood
watching Mary but he didn't come to her when she called.
It made Mary sad but sleep soon overcame her and she
 dozed.

When Mary woke for a second she couldn't understand
what was wrong.   She couldn't move her head and her
body felt heavy and hot. But panic soon gave way to laughter
when Mary realized the problem. She was covered, literally
blanketed, with every treasure Lucky owned!  While she had
slept, the sorrowing dog had made trip after trip to the
basement bringing  his beloved mistress all his favorite
things in life.  He had covered her with his love.

Mary forgot about dying.  Instead she and Lucky began
living again, walking further and further together every
day. It's been 12 years now and Mary is still
cancer-free.  Lucky?   He still steals treasures and stashes
them in his toy box but Mary remains his greatest treasure.

Had a TIA was in the ER all day

Update:

I finally heard back from my Cardios nurse.  He feels confident that he can fix my PFO & ASA with the Cathetor Procedure- So-No Open Heart Surgery!

Now he just has to do it successfully :o...As I have talked to several people whos PFOs were not successfully closed.

But something has to go right for me- So I will say it will be closed!  LOL

BREAST CANCER & FISH OIL

Hmmm- I was just looking Fish Oil yesterday or rather I was looking at Omega 3.  I was looking at Costcos Kirkland Brand that was 8.99-400 gel capsules Had 1000mg of Fish oil & 300 mg of Omega 3.

Mega Red brand that I was looking at was on sale for $15 -90 gel capsules.  It was Krill Oil.  Said it was the same as taking 3 of the above.  Still only 300 mg.

So which would be better?  Anyone know about Krill oil?

Dh kept telling me they were horid when I bought Fish Oil a few years ago for us to take...But I still want to add them to my Daily suppliments.

range of motion after surgery

I agree with Skyrat.  That being said my SNB/Lump was almost as bad for range of motion as my BLM (with no SNB)   The SNB Is sometimes more painful.

While some Drs will say no arms above your head- So be sure to check- not that you will be able to do that right away.  But some have resticktions for that even a few weeks out.

But It is best to use your arms- Not for anything heavy.  But move them.  I had a lot of pain with my SNB & I did not move that arm because of it.  That made it much worse getting my range of motion back.   Later with my BLM I got my range of motion back almost in a month.

You will gain your range of motion back Much sooner if you use your arms & move them- dont keep them close to your sides all day.  Once you are feeling pretty good & have your Drs Approval- Stretching is very important.

Good Luck,

Pam

Family Christmas party after BC-hubby won't go

It really hurts.   I think that was one of the hard things for me- To get used to family/people that seemed like they didnt care...And I do believe some really dont.

My Sister in Laws dd was recently DX with cervical cancer (at least they told us that)  We found out from my MIL 2 days after they got the news.

This SIL did not call, email or send a card for 6 FULL weeks following my DX & Surgery/lump.  At 6 weeks I got a card.  In the 9 months since my DX that is all I ever heard from her.  She did call 1 week after my BLM 10 weeks after my DX to tell my dh that someone she went to school with (and he also knew- had died)  She did not even inquire how my surgery went or ask how I was doing.

Getting back to my Point- When we found out about her dd.  Dh jokingly said- should we call now or wait?  I said well we have 6 weeks!  LOL.   Then I said- We will call- Because we know better.

We did call that night.  And luckily this week we were told she has precancer cells- so much better news.

It is something I will get past.  But it is something I will never forget either.

Its a hard spot to put you in.  I would still want to celebrate with my Family.  And I would want my dh there.   I would not want to go alone & I understand why he would feel you dont side with him if you go.  Also since your parents were so supportive- They Love you & Would love to have you there for the Holiday Celebration.

Maybe go for a shorter visit then usual?  Its only once a year Undecided
