Bottle 'o Tamoxifen

Hello everyone.  I am on my third bottle.  I have been experiencing lots of hot flashes and various aches and pains so far. I haven't gotten a period since I did chemo (I'm 35).  I have come to some kind of peace with not being able to have any more children (I have a 8 year old).

I have developed a sweet tooth!  I have been baking (from scratch at that) lately.  This cannot be good as I eat whatever I bake since it's only two of us in the house!

Ashaby, good luck on  your shows.  You have awesome talent.

Healing After Masectomy

Hi Everyone.  I had a masectomy in October and it still is not completely healed.  The wound was almost all the way closed in June so I began to wear my prosthetic.  I guess that that was too much pressure and the wound opened up further.  It's now about the size of a quarter.  My question is did anyone else take a long time to heal without having had an infection?

Does anybody look different?

Yogi,

I had spots on my tongue as well.  My hands, both the palms and the top, and my feet got darker as well.  They have now lightened some since I finished treatment a month ago.

Did Hair Come Back Better or Worse?

Hi Ladies,

I wore hats when my hair fell out (it was winter time then).  I wear wigs now. I live in Texas and it's ninety plus degree so this is not a fun thing to do Laughing.  My sister in law was also diagnosed with bc so she told me a little of what to expect with the chemo-so I was semi prepared for some things.  I cut my hair down to the scalp before it started to fall out a week after my first treatment with AC.  I had shoulder length hair and would not have been able to see it falling out.  Two weeks after that it started coming out.  I wore scarves to sleep so that it wouldn't come out on my pillow and freak me out in the morning.  My scalp, in the middle of my head, was very "tender" and hurt while the hair was falling out.  After the hair was all gone my scalp was very dry but it wasn't tender anymore.  I washed my scalp with baby shampoo during this time and conditioned it.

It's been a month since my last treatment and it's started to grow back; I have a little fuzz on top.  Can't wait to get rid of this wig.  Hot flashes + wig = major discomfort!

Bottle 'o Tamoxifen

Hi guys.  Asha, I too am thinking of going the therapist route.  Feelings all jumbled hopefully that will help out.  Lynn:  have a blast diving!  I'm too much of a scaredy cat to try different things.

Bottle 'o Tamoxifen

Happy bday and anniversary wishes!  I started taking tamox last week and haven't seen much side effects except for increased hot flashes and increased appetite.  I've even started craving chocolate; that is so much not like me.  i think that I have gained all the weight that I lost while on chemo plus some Cry.  Have a good day all!

Thanks for the welcome guys.  I do have hot flashes but I was getting them from the chemo so I don't know  if they are now from the tamoxifen.   I go for my first post-chemo appointment with my onc in two weeks kinda scary but doable.

Bottle 'o Tamoxifen

Hi ladies.  I finished my chemo on the 11th.  My onc said that he I should begin taking the tamoxifen two weeks after my last treatment.  However, he didn't put that in my records.  Anyway, he went away on vacation (to Africa) so I couldn't get the nurses to call in the prescription.  I was starting to freak out pretty badly.  Anyway, he called into the office and the receptionist let him know that I had been hounding them so he authorized it.  As of Monday, I am now part of the bottle of tamoxifen group.  I'm hoping that I am one of those that wont have any side effects.

P.S.  I am taking it at night; does anyone know if taking it at night lessens the chances of side effects?

Virginia-I planted some bulbs last spring and forgot about them.  My brother planted those flowers for me and guess what came up in the midst of them?  Yup, those bulbs sprouted as well.  Oh well, it will be alright.

Harley-another April b-day sister-my b-day was on Sunday!

last chemo; now what? Repost

Aurora,  I know that God has been good!  I try to look at my situation and see how He's kept me.  It's been almost two weeks since my last treatment and some of the side effects are starting to ease.  My skin is clearing up, I'm not as achy and moody, and the peripheral neuorapathy (sp) is gradually easing.  Thank God that it wasn't as bad as it could be-some people lose feeling in their fingers and feet permanently.  I'm surrounded by wonderful coworkers that actually care for each other.  I could go on and on; as I'm typing this I begin to count my blessings and see that there is more good than bad.  Thank you for responding.

Elvie-I think that you hit the nail on the head even with the side effects, with chemo something was being done; now kinda in limbo.

Thanks guys for your words of encouragement.

Bottle 'o Tamoxifen

Hi guys,

The weather is gorgeous here in Texas.  There is no longer any fear of getting any frost so my brother planted a garden for me.  I love to see it but dang, I sure hate watering and weeding it Laughing

The sunny days do a lot to lighten my spirit.  I'm looking forward to summer, but I'm not sure about summer and hot flashes; do those go together?Frown

(Harley, I haven't started taking Tamo yet, will start next month, but the doc did tell me not to double up, chec, with your onc if you forget to take a dose).

last chemo; now what? Repost

Thanks everyone for your response.  I guess that I should have done something to celebrate the end of the treatment and maybe that would have helped.  i also had my birthday 2 days ago but didn't really celebrate it much either (it didn't help that a lot of people didn't remember it either).  My daughter (8 yrs old) asked if I was going to have a party and I told her no. She said that I was boring (out of the mouth of babes Laughing); she said that we should have a party on the anniversary of the day that I did surgery to celebrate (God bless this child).

She wanted me to have cupcakes so we made some for my birthday and we went out to Red Lobster to eat.

nervous breakdown

lag,

I just want to tell you to stay encouraged and continue to do what you need to do to take care of yourself.  Some people don't know how to deal with us that have been diagnosed with bc; some are even jealous of all the attention that is focused on us.  Little do they know that we wouldn't want this kind of attention if we had a choice.  Even though it's hard not to, try not to pay too much attention to the negative vibes.  You need to focus on your health.

last chemo; now what? Repost

(Repost; I saw that I posted this in the wrong place (under surgery) so i'm re-posting it here for any feedback).

I had my last chemo on Thursday and I'm glad about that.  I thought that I would be whopping and hollering but I really don't know how/what to feel.  What comes next? With the chemos I knew every two weeks what was going to happen but now I don't know.  I don't see my onc until the middle of May so I'm kinda in limbo.  Did anyone feel the same way after they were finished with chemo?
