What Size Do I Want???Laura, Can't you stop your fills until after chemo? I can't imagine being even more uncomfortable because of the tightness in your chest. After chemo, can't ps resume inflation? I would want the scar to heal before rads. Am I correct in this line of thinking? Postponing the final decision would allow you to read everyone else's story for a few months. We are same weight and height. I was also Acup before and am going for full B or small C. I have my exchange at the end of June, I'll post results. My expanders are almost up to 400 now and are not big enough. Perhaps I am bigger framed. Perhaps I got used to bigger boobs quickly! I am also wondering if anyone can tell me if the contoured teardrop implants look smaller than the round, high expanders. Surely they must. A contour 450, I think, would not stick out from the chest as far. How to decide?????!!! Dx3-18-07,stageII,grade3,DCIS,0nodes, bi-latmast.10-07,expanders2-27-08 |

continued Tissue expander pain!!Dear Denise, How selfish of me not to empathize with you. This beer is clouding my judgement. I am soooo sorry for you. I know you must be disappointed. I am not leaking, but I have a "hole" above the expander and the ps said that he wants to inject fat from my butt into my breast after all is said and done. Hmmm. I think this will please my t and a husband.

continued Tissue expander pain!!Vacation sounds nice. I am up to my ears in homework for five kids in private school. I have six! I met another bc survivor who is six years out and has found a way to make bc pay. She got a free vacation when she was invited to Boston for a Next Step Retreat. They put her up, fed her, gave her talks, and let her go to the spa. She said it was great. The next free vacation is to Boise to go white water rafting with First Descents for seven days, food and lodging included! Okay, Ladies-keep this in mind: There is another side to this pain. We will get past this. Think ahead or just think headlights! ha. ha. Lisa

Has anybody else quit taking Arimidex?I am so glad to hear of the brain fog with Arimidex! I thought it was me. My mom and dad seem to be showing early signs of alzheimers and my grandma died of it. I thought that I had either developed permanent brain fog from chemo or was showing the same signs. I have not admitted this to anyone else because I was ashamed. I married a very, very smart doc. I could barely keep up with the conversation before bc. Now it seems hopeless. Yesterday, I called our most wonderful vacation spot Paris and meant it. DH looked at me as if I was reaally off bc it was Rome. I am 37 and scared. I have 4.5 more years of this stuff. I am beyond trying to exercise my brain with crosswords, although I try. What an awful feeling. Dx3-18-07,stageII,grade3,DCIS,0nodes, bi-latmast.10-07,expanders2-27-08 |

continued Tissue expander pain!!Rshat-I choose to have the oopherectomy in May 2007 when my port was installed. My oncologist felt that we could oblate the ovaries medically during chemo but could not convince us that the medicine was 100% shut down. We used Natural Family Planning before the Dx. I sure didn't want to abstain or get pregnant during the sixteen weeks of chemo. Having my ovaries out was the assurance that I needed. If you can take the anti-hormone therapy, why do you need your ovaries out? It is a personal decision sometimes. I also wanted to have my cervix and uterus out. My oncologist and Gyn convinced me that I would take longer to heal, start chemo later, and could always go back to get them at a later date. The uterus and the cervix are the innocent bystanders, they told me, not the hormone producing organ. The whole body is implicated as far as I am concerned. The whole thing has betrayed me deeply. Luckily, I am learning to forgive. I went to a cancer conference last May and saw the most wonderful performer. Her show is called "Jonna's Body, Please Hold". I laughed till I cried and boy did that hurt! Now I am in Menopause. Why call it a pause? Gee, as if we needed a monicker that sounds like "time to stop." I vow to be in better shape than ever soon and never take a day for granted. The hot flashes are extreme for about three months then, they eased off for me. It gives me that "I just exercised look" without trying. I use a sleep aid or I can't sleep. I prefer the anti-anxiety med. to the Lunesta-types. Perhaps you will have to get to know me better to realize why. I am on Arimedex for 5 years to stop the estimated 5% hormone production that comes from the fat cells. I am dry from my nose to my toes and inbetween. That's OK, lotion's cheap. Today is a new day, my friends. I'm hoping that if you are hurting that it is physical only. Here's hoping the pain is soon a distant mammory!!lol, Lisa |

continued Tissue expander pain!!Hi this is LisaEllen. You ladies have reduced my anxiety about this process. I really look forward to talking with you. I'm in SC. Thanks for the insight that the skin does thicken as it heals. This was what I needed to hear. I was thinking that I was going to tear through my very thin skin. I was quite concave after the bi-lat. in Oct. I had expanders put in at the end of Feb. with Alloderm. The surgeon put in 150 while I was under. This made a very small bump. The first fill was 100. I am still an A. I'm 5-8, 135lbs. The open chest, shoulder roll exercise does help. I was glad to hear that others were stretching. My ps has not told me to go to p.t. I will ask on Thurs. It took 11 days after the first fill to relax and use my arms. Very painful. I have trouble with pain meds, especially Lortab. They really make me weepy, tired, and constipated. I will stick with Advil and the muscle relaxer. I also wanted to pass on that I can't open med bottles the reg way. I put one hand on top of the bottle as I hold it between my knees. My knees do the squeezing while I turn it. I can't have the easy open kind because I have six kids-4 to 13. Gee, thanks for listening to all these details. |

Pain with ExpandersAlso keep in mind that you can use the stick on heating bandages sold over the counter for the back pain. One right between the shoulder blades made sleeping easier! My husband also bought me the biggest lazy boy we could find to sleep in. With all of the chemo and surgeries, I've been there for months. Hey, (for the future) does anyone have cohesive gel implants that they can exercise with? I'm not exercising yet but would like to get back to it when I am healed. It might impact my decision on size to inflate to if someone felt that a C implant hindered them from aerobics or running. Anything more than walking hurts right now and my expanders are only at an A cup! A good bra should be enough right? Lisa |

continued Tissue expander pain!!Hi Everyone, My name is Lisa and I am soooo glad that I found you. I had a bi-lat mast. in Oct., 2007. I had expanders put under the muscle at the end of Feb. I was less than an A cup before. Looking forward to having a full B or small C. My husband has nicknamed me Dee in hopes that I go larger. Ha. The first fill was two weeks post-op and hurt a lot. He put in 100cc and I was shaking like a leaf. This Thursday, I am going to take .5 Ativan, thanks to your suggestions. I also had a stabing pain under the right breast that was like a knife. If it happens again, I will try Lidoderm patches as per someone's suggestion. Someone mentioned painful intercourse. I, too, am in menopause (at 37!). I had my ovaries out because my tumor was hormone positive. I have had good luck with plain or heating K-Y and/or Astroglide, which gets style points for the descriptive name. Thanks for the encouragement and for the hope that the final swap for permanent implants provides relief. It is nice not to be alone. |
