unhappy with implants

blessed,

mine are slightly un-even. my one implant is still higher and firmer than the other. the other dropped and is soft. my ps said she would fix it..something about 'releasing' something or other. but I am not going to have it redone till spring when I get my nipples. it's not noticeable with a shirt on and it's not painful. I feel confident that my ps is trying to make me look the best possible so I am sticking with her. please post after your surgery to let us know if it helped.

Dede,

if I were you I would see another ps. I can't imagine going thru' that pain for 4 yrs! I had pain with the expanders terribly and if these implants hurt like that I wouldn't be able to take it. I would hope that they could do something for you as you deserve to be pain-free!

unhappy with implants

I'm glad that you have another opinion coming up pam. I think some of these ps's have this perfect image of themselves and get upset when someone complains about their 'perfect' work. I started out with a ps who never listened to me, dismissed all my concerns and pains and was very arrogant. I switched during my fills and got another ps. the first ps office couldn't believe I was doing that...they said no-one had ever switched on him before. I should have done it weeks before I did!

I saw my ps the other day and she said I will need a revision on one side. the one dropped and softened nicely but the other is firm/high. she will do it when she does my nipples..probably in the early  springtime when I can get my port out at the same time. she asked me if I could wait that long and I said yes as I jsut want a break from chest discomfort for a while. I figure sweater and sweatshirt weather is coming so they wont be noticably uneven.

I am sad reading here that so many other women are unhappy with their implants but I am so glad that they are speaking out. hopefully if there are others that are quietly reading and thinking the same things, they will get the courage to speak up to their ps's also.

unhappy with implants

pam,

I looked at your pics and I have posted about them.

I'm really sorry that someone chose to pm you to tell you to "get over it". it upsets me that there are people who will say things like that to others. how one feels about their body and wanting to look good should not be minimalized.... how you see yourself is very important for your recovery/healing.  shame on the person that said that....especially if they are a bc survivor themself!

unhappy with implants

hi all,

so sorry to hear of others who are not happy also. it has been 3 1/2 weeks now since my surgery. one side has definitely dropped and fluffed a bit, the other side remains tighter and has not dropped. I did go out and find a few bras that fit somewhat. same size as before my surgery but do not fill out the way I used to.  I have people tell me that they look good in a shirt (the ones who know that I had surgery). they definitly feel and look much better than those expanders, and I am so glad that they are out. slowly I am getting used to them. I was calling them my 'fake boobs' and my hubby remarked that maybe I shouldn't feel like that about them. so now I am calling them just my 'new boobs'.

thanks to all for the suggestions and comments. it really helps to hear from others who are or have been thru' it. Smile

Where was your Exchange Surgery DONE

I had my exchange done at a surgery center next to a hospital. I didn't have to stay that long (surgery was at 1pm and I was out the door at 5:30).

I had a scopolamine patch for nausea too and it was the best! I usually throw up after surgery and this time I didn't. well, I din't till I took the patch off 24 hrs later then I had 3 days of throwing up after eating anythingFrown

unhappy with implants

I went bra shopping yesterday and got a couple.  I tries on all kinds of styles/sizes and found that my old size fit the best. of course the old styles that I used to wear didn't fit right. I got no underwires/very minimal support ones but very lacey/pretty. showed them to my hubby and grown dtr and they thought they looked really good. I think they look really good!

one thing I keep doing is calling them my 'fake boobs'.  my hubby says I need to stop calling them that. so now I am trying to think of them as just 'my boobs'.

unhappy with implants

hi,

nice to hear from all of you. I went to my ps yest and expressed my feelings. she said that she can switch them out for different ones but to give it 6 mths first to see if I feel differently later. while I was there I got pretty emotional and realized something. I guess I (subconsciously) expected them to look and be like my old breasts and that is never going to happen. they are gone for good. cancer took them and no matter what implants go in they will never be the same.  I don't think in the past 8mths I had confronted those feelings. it felt good afterwards and I started talking about nipples and tatooing (probably in 6 mths when my port comes out).

she did say to throw out all my old bras and go get new ones. I think that's a really good idea and plan to go to victoria secret or somewhere  (somewhere I wouldn't allow myself to splurge on bras before)  and pick out some frilly ones.

today I looked at my new girls and thought that they looked pretty good (bruises and all) Smile

unhappy with implants

hi all,

5 days ago-sept 3rd I had implants put in replacing expanders. mentor high profile 400cc silicone were placed.  today I took the surgical bra off and am not happy with the new girls. to me they look and feel just like the expanders did. hard and just sticking out a bit. they don't look natural in a top and so I'm very disappointed.

I have heard around that they take some time to get used to their new home,  but how long? do they really fluff out a bit and droop into what looks somewhat like a real breast?

am I just wanting too much too soon?

September Reconstruction Ladies

cristl, these are the implants. thats why I'm so depressed. they feel and look just like the old expanders I had in.

I didn't have high hopes..always jsut said whatever I was left with I would be happy. but I can't help but feel that I went thru' all of this for nothing. I hope that they do settle in after a while. I am going to post a new subject and hope to get some feedback from others who have felt this. I will see my ps tomorrow and express my feelings to her and see what she says.

all my best to those having surgery this week!

September Reconstruction Ladies

hi all,

had not so good of a weekend. sick to my stomache and vomiting alot. don't know if it is the atb's or the pain meds so stopped taking them. now just taking aleve with some pretty good relief until I go to turn or lay down/get up. also depressed about the boobs. not too happy with the way the look/feel right now. took the surgical bra off and there is some dressings at the base of them but the middle and top are clear. still bruised of course, but thats not why I'm unhappy.

they look and feel jsut like the expanders, I think. I put on a tank top and they just stuck out a bit just like them...looks still very un-natural. hubby says to give them time to settle in...but I don't know. maybe I'm jsut expecting too much but they sure don't look/feel like I thought they would. I feel like I went thru' all of this and now I'm not happyCry

September Reconstruction Ladies

hi everyone,

my surgery on wednesday went very well. I went under at 1pm and was on my way back home at 6pm. my ps placed mentor high profile silicone 400cc. I could feel the relief from those darn hard expanders right away. can't really tell what they look like yet as I'm not supposed to take off this surgical bra/dressings until I see her next tueday. pain wise it's not too bad.  much better that the original sx of bilat mast with expanders placed . taking an occasional percocet for pain and sleeping on a wedge pillow for comfort.

I'm just soooo happy to have gotten those turtle shells out of me that whatever they look like I'm sure I'll be happy. the way I look at it is that this cancer took away my boobs but I have done another thing to defeat it by getting some nice soft replacements.Tongue out take that cancer!!

September Reconstruction Ladies

good morning everyone!

today is my day, surgery is at 1pm.  going to get these expanders out and some silicone boobs in. never thought this day would come. it's been a long hard road since they were placed feb 1st. many days/nights crying and wishing these expanders were gone. one of the ps's nurses told me that a lot of ladies feel relief right in the recovery room. I hope that I do. I told my hubby that the first thing I want him to tell me when I wake up is that they are history.

best of luck and prayers to the others that are having surgery today and this week.  I will be back to let everyone know how my experience went as soon as I'm coherent enuf' to type.....it may be a couple of days tho' as when I take pain meds I tend to not make much sense LOL.

see ya  Wink

September Reconstruction Ladies

hi all,

add me to the september list....sept 3rd! it feels sooo good to say that!  I had a bilat mast with expanders placed feb 1st followed by chemo that jsut ended a couple weeks ago. now I am getting herceptin and a study drug 'tykerb'.

my ps and I decided on mentor smooth round high profile silicone. unsure about the size, she will take a few different ones into the or with her  (350, 375, 400, 425) to see what fits best.

so glad to be here with other sept ladies Smile

survivorship (poll)

I remember the first time I met my surgeon. it was about 1 week after I received the call that I had bc. she walked into the room, grabbed my hands and the first thing she said is "from this moment on you are a survivor". left quite an impact on me and now on even on my worst days I remember that and it keeps me plugging awaySmile

TYKERB (FATIGUE ISSUES)

I am on a study that involves taking tykerb. had to go off it for 3 weeks becasue of the extreme diarrhea but am now back on it this week. the fatigue is terrrible. I don't feel like myself. always tired and body aches. was hoping this gets better with time and when I'm off the taxol but if you are 3 mths into it and still having a lot of fatigue it doesn't sound promisingFrown

wrinkles

it is such a hard decision isn't it? I have also heard that silicone ones are more comfortable than the saline ones. but I guess that is only comparable if you have had both.

wrinkles

I currently have expanders in place and am getting my exchange in sept. my expanders have a lot of wrinkles in the top and bottom that bug me. I thought I had made my decision to get saline filled implants but now am reading more that the silicone ones don't tend to wrinkle as much. I am curious to hear from both silicone and saline users and their experience with wrinkles (or no wrinkles)

thanks!
