Anyone starting chemo in June 08

Just dropped in to brag.  Last Taxol tx today.  YEA.  Shelled peas a couple of nights ago with family visiting from Texas and my left thumb and first finger are still numb.  Everybody have a good weekend!

had Mammo - Calcifications

Leaf

Don't mean to scare anyone, but I had microcalsifications in the late 90s and was put on a 6 month schedule or mammos for about 4 years and a second area appeared.  My doctor ordered a US and I had also had a biopsy.  They may have called them micro but they were the size of cashew pieces and most of them were the same color of the nuts.  A couple were stil clear, but the first lab would not say it was or was not cancer and a larger lab in NY state had the same results.  So my doctor and I decided that since it had increased and the difference in the samples we decided to treat it like it was cancer starting in 2001.  I did not have to have chemo or rads.

This past spring my mammo showed a mass of microcalfications and 2 lumps.  Path report after show the micro's and one lump to be benign and the second lump was cancer.  Just two more tx of chemo and on the a pill for 5 years.

Best of luck

Hi Ladies

Been a while since I  posted here.  Jax, jsut what are your secrets for loosing 8 pounds.  I started chemo on June 19, 2008 and have just recently been showing a weight lost.  19 pounds so far, but I only have 2 more treatments.  Guess I'm just a late bloomer.

I broke down today

Deb.

I had my PET scan and MUGA scan in May and it seems like this past week.  I have very poor veins and had a port put in during my surgery in April.  Unfortunately it depends on what kind of port you have that will allow it to take just any test.  The tech found a vein for the PET scan (which was first) and was also able to put the dye in.  The next morning I had my MUGA scan and the tech could not find a good vein.  The tech from the day before came in and was able to draw blood but when it came time to inject the blood with the dye, he had to do it by syringe very slowly in the top of my right foot.  Both tests I was told they could not use my port.

That's all history now for the time anyhow and I survived it.  Now just two more Taxol treatments and hopefully I will be finished for a while.

LOL

Hair, skin, and nail problems with Taxotere and Taxol

Hi everybody,   Seems like the S/E's don't want to end but change from one thing to another.  I was on 4 AC and am now just had my 8th of 12 Taxol tx.  My right large toenail came off about 4 weeks ago.  The left large toenail will probably be off in about 2 weeks. Only a few of my finger nails have the "Beau's Lines" so far.  AT the cancer center where I go for tx. they suggested vitamin e oil or tea tree oil for your nails.   I keep saying I am going to try one but haven't yet.

HonkyDory

I go to work everyday without a bra.  The feeling of the freedom outweighs you being lopsidded.

I have not gotten any funny looks even when I am shopping.  It's like nobody cares so why should I.  Just remember you are still you and nobody can change that.

Anyone starting chemo in June 08

Hello everybody

Haven't posted in a while.  Seems everytime I get ready to submit, my lap top has chemo brain and more than half of what I write disappears.  So here goes, survived the DD AC, am half way through Taxol ( 6 more),.  lost my big right toe nail last week and the left one will probable come off in a couple more weeks.  I got my hair buzzed on 07/08/08 and it seems to be filling in the bald spots but not growing any length.  Can't really teel if it['s blone or white yet, depends on the light.  Any how, everyone hang in there.

LOL

Taxol question?

Cinzia

I also have the itchy in my groin area from time to time.  NO itchy red bumps.  But the fatige and pain are oh so much.  Yesterday I swear it was a 9.5 on the 1-10 pain scale.  I am alos on the 12 weeks of Taxol and am half way through.  At some points I have a sharp pain in my upper right leg that causes my knees to buckle.  Will it wver stop.  Takes to vicadins to sleep at night.  I think I may try the Cal-A-Gel also.

Hang in there

That bald guy he

I was at a deli counter earlier today and the gentleman behind counter said "can I held you sir?"  In a higher than usual pitch I said "Yes".

Also,   a couple of weeks ago I had to have a picture ID taken and took off my cap forgetting all about no hair.  My dh says I have no shame when it comes to my bald head.

Lots of Love

Anyone starting chemo in June 08

Hi all,

I've had my second tx of AC on 7/3 and will have my 3rd on 7/31.  I have been on another roller coaster ride.  My onc was on a 2 week vac.  The NP and partner thought I was developing an infection because of redness and heat to the surgery sight.  Wth symptoms would come and go.  I was on keflex for 5 days and then my 2nd tx was postponed and put on levaquin for 5 days, dr returned and put me on vecamycian iv drip for 7-10 says,  when administered less than over 2 hours I developed RED MAN SYNDROME.  after 10 days of the iv I saw my surgeon again, who said I hade RED BREAST SYNDROME.  and It may or may not go away after chemo.  the surgeon says she sees it alot after surgeries.  it's because the lymp drainage form theneck has to drain upward when you are sitting or standing and when you lay downit flows naturally.  O well, I know I won't be laying down that much.

Anyhwo, blood work today, My WBC and ANC are down, doc was already gone for the day  so I have to wait untilam to see if I have to take the neuprogen shot.

Lots of Hugs

breast red and swollen during chemo?

I  feel so much better since seeing my surgeon.  turned out nt to be an infection, but she called it "RED BREAST SYNDROME".  UHM, I had the chemo which gave me the symptoms for red breast syrdrome, I had the vecamycin which gave me red man's syndrome when adminstered less than two hours,  just wondering haow many more red _____ syndromes there are and if I am good candidate for it.  anyhow, the redness goes away when I lie down.  Doctor says it may go away after the chemo and then again it may never go away.

God is Good

Lots of Hugs

breast red and swollen during chemo?

Hey Gen,

Just reading your post about your mom.  I've been experiencing the same symptoms and was on keflex 500mg for five days, five days of  lavequin and then ten days of vecamysin IV.  Tomorrow I go back to the surgeon.  I've really had no fevers, and the symptoms would come and go.  my onc believes it is cellulitis.  It all started after my 1st chemo tx.

Hugs to all

Starting Chemo May 2008

Tina,

I was wadering what had happened.  Is the facility where you in Charlotte Co or elsewere?  My dh just retired from the maintained deprtment iat the one in Arcadia on Hwy 31.  My cousin works at the one down by Peace river off Kngs Hwy in DeSoto Co.  When I checked my appointment book, my apt was schedued at 11:30 insteadof 10:30.

So if I get the drain out for my second surgery (May 16) tomorrow.  I see Dr B next thursday at 9:00am and fell I will start chemo that same day.  She told me on M/29 that I will start as soon as the drain is out.

I found out my treament of A/C every other week X 4 months then 12 weeks of Taxol.  I really thought I would be starting in May instead of the middle of June.

hugs and prayers

Anyone starting chemo in June 08

I have a question, for those taking the Adiamycin.  How long does this one drug take to drip.  I have an apt with onco this Thursday and I get my drain out on Friday.  Can't be soon enough, since it will be 4 weeks since surgery.  The first surgery, the drain stayed in for 4 weeks also and since that was second surgery date, the Surgen took it out.

I gave each a name but they were not nice names but  both began with you little aggrevating__________!

Hugs to All

Got Cancer? AGAIN????

Hello Ladies,

I was first diagnosed in August of 2001.  I had an area of (right breast) microcalsifications that was watched every 6 months X 4 years  with mammograms. In 2001, a second area appeared an my mammogram and the doctor ordered biopsy.  My biopsy was on a wed and late Fri afternoon my doc called me to say the lab could not tell if it was cancer yet or not.  So it was sent to larger lab in New York.  New York had the same conclusion, did not say it was B9 or cancer.

After talking to my doctor, the radiologist and my surgeon, I decided to have a mastectomy with reconstruction.  Ionly had the one surgery and since it was so early I did not have to have rads or chemo, I only missed two weeks of work and everything went so smoothly.  I woke up from surgery and a nice little round implant.

Piece of cake.  Wish they could all be that way.

This go around, I had my yaerly mammogram on March 19,and before I left the room the rdiologist sent me over for US,Ten minutes to 5 the US doctor came in and said it does not look good and he was calling my doctor to order a biopsy.  My doctor called my surgeon the next morning to set up an appointment for the following week to discuss the biopsy.  I walked in to the exam room adn my surgeon was standing there looking at my mammogram films  and before I could sit down e said: "it doesn't look good, I don't like it".  My dh and I just looked at each other and I said OK now what?.  Surgeon said he wanted to do a biopsy and I asked when and he said right now.   After to biopsy he said he would know the results in 48 hours, he called me the next afternoon and said I have cancer.  He asked if I wanted  to have the surgery and reconstruction at the same time as before and I said sure.  The only problem with that is my ps does not do total reconstruction any more and gave up his priviledges at the three local hospitals b/c he opened his own surgery center.  The only PS in that county takes medicare or $5,000. up front.

Long story short, I ended up  going to a Women's Center at the advice of the office manager in my surgeon's office.  I say the  newmsurgeon the next day, the PS the followigmMonday, had my surgery on April 19, 08, IDC, 2 cm, StageIIb, Grade2, 2/11 nodes, HER-Neu-  The path report showed an unclean margin and my second surgery was May 16.  No cake here this time.  Anyhow I am schedued to A/C once bi-weeklyfor 4 months and Taxol weekly for 12 weeks.  Now as soon as the drain from my surgery is out I can begin the chemo journey.

Anyhow HUGS to everyone and we  will beat this monster.

Sandy
