More waitingHi I am in the same boat. I have an MRI on 12/8. It really is putting a damper on my Thanksgiving and now I have to wait for results during the Christmas holiday. I am so tempted to reschedule to after christmas. I will keep you in my prayers. |

Wire localization biopsy tomorrow...so scared!Hi Michelle I had the wire loc done last spring. No valium and still did fine. You will too. I actually had two clusters of calcs. You can also ask them for something to calm you before the surgery if the valium isn't working ( it should though). My anesethesologist put something in my IV and I felt no pain! You will do fine. I know it is scary but it will be over before you know it! |

Anyone have a negative mammogram followed by a positive MRI?Hi guys, First I want to wish you all a great holiday and I pray we all have some peace of mind on Thanksgiving. After my f/u 6 mos mammo ( had two lumpectomies for calcs which turned out b9 and alh), my surgeon recommended an MRI. I got nervous and didn't quite hear what he was saying. I thought my mammo looked good and than he babbled about being high risk and having dense breasts. He said it wouldn't hurt to have the MRI. I am an extremely anxious person and this just about ruined my holidays. I seriously obsess over health issues. I am not quite sure what I am asking, but do you think that because my mammo looked good, the MRI should too? Has anyone here found cancer on MRI after a good mammo? Just preparing myself mentally, I guess. I really want to have a peaceful holiday and try not to ruminate. God Bless |

Need opinions... should I get MRI before or after holidays?Hi all, Recap: Had 6 mos mammo f/u after lumpectomy for calcs. They were b9 but with alh. Was told at clinic mammo looks "good and come back in 6 mos". Then a full two weeks later my surgeon says he spoke with the radiologist and they recommend an mri. Reason: other calcs that seem to be macro, family history (mom had BC) and density. Here's my dilemma, he scheduled me for 12/8. I am so scared that if they find something my holidays are ruined. On the other hand, the worry will ruin them anyway. Would you wait or just have it done? Signed, Sleepless |

Dense Breasts Ask for MRIHi I had my 6 mos f/u mammo for two lumpectomies (calcs and ALH) two weeks ago. Was told it was "good" and come back in 6 mos. Then two weeks later, my surgeon calls and recommends an MRI. I freaked out. He kind of gave reasoning for this... dense breasts, family history, calcs, ect. I go on 12.6, I am just PETRIFIED that this will find something. It feels like I am looking for trouble. After reading this thread, I guess it is the prudent thing to do. However, there is a part of me that says the mammo looked ok and wants to stick my head in the sand. (especially around the holidays) what if they find something? Scared, can't eat or sleep. ANyone? |

having a down dayHELLO, EXACTLY, ME TOO. I HAVE A BREAST MRI ON 12/3 AND I AM SO DEPRESSED I AM IN BED RIGHT NOW. I HAVE HAD TWO LUMPECTOMIES FOR CALCS AND THEY WERE B9 BUT WITH ATYPIA. JUST HAD MY 6 MOS FOLLOW UP AND THEY RECOMMENDED THE MRI. I AM SO SICK OF THIS HANGING OVER MY HEAD. I FEEL THE HOLIDAYS ARE RUINED FOR ME. I HAVE NO MOTIVATION WHAT SO EVER. YOU ARE NO ALONE IN THIS REACTION. I TOOK A XANAX TODAY AND ALL IT DID WAS MAKE WE WANT TO SLEEP. NOBODY LIKES TO FEEL POWERLESS AND RIGHT NOW WE HAVE NO CONTROL OVER THE RESULTS. I WILL PRAY FOR YOU. |

First MRI on 12/8...Holiday's ruined, can't sleep.Hi guys, Had my 6 mos. mammo f/u after two lumpectomies for calcs (ALH). At first was told at the clinic that it looked good and come back in 6 mos. Now I get a call from my surgeon who says he wants me to get a MRI. I've been crying for two days and sick to my stomach. He says there are a couple of new calcs but I thought MRI's aren't good for calcs. I got so nervous I didn't ask him WHY he was sending me. My mom had BC at 30 and I have ALH so I am high risk. Now my thanksgiving is ruined and I am petrified that I am going to get bad news right before Christmas. Just reaching out. God Bless you all. |

MRI scheduling around period... questionsHi all, My surgeon recommended an MRI after my 6 mos. f/u after a biopsy for calcs. B9 but had atypia. They called today to set up MRI and had to be scheduled around my period. Now I am not sure of the exact date of my last period. I am so scared that If I go when my breasts are sore, I will get alot of false negs. What should I do? Is it ok right after the period or is there a guideline for exact days of the cycle? |

Are MRI's common 6 months after lumpectomies?Hi to all Had my 6 mos follow-up mammo after two lumpectomies for microcal's. (Came back b9 but with a small area of atypia). I was told mammo looked good but now my surgeon says I should schedule a MRI. Is this common practice ? I have dense breasts and my Mom had BC. I am scared. |

I thought I was in the clear...than a call...Hi Dukemom So, is the MRI in place of a mammo? I know they wanted me to have a MRI before my lumpectomies in May but didn't have time to go. I thought they cannot see calcs on a MRI |

Now my surgeon calls and says that they want an MRI because of other calcs? Macro, I think he said. I want to cry. Anybody? |

microcalcificationsHi Jazzie, I had the wire loc for microcalcifcations last May. I actually ended up with two lumpectomies. The procedure was tolerable and I was asleep for the surgery. They could give you something to relax you also so be sure to ask for it. My biopsies showed Atypical cells (no cancer) so I go for 6 month mammos. I know how terrifying this is. Please try to take it one step at a time.. Feel free to ask any questions about the wire and I will try to ease your mind. |

Have 6 mos. mammo Thurs. for micocalcs/alhThanks for all the replies. You guys are great. It's nice that we can talk with people who understand this type of anxiety. Do you know how many well-meaning people said oh, it's just a mammogram! Anyway, I'd love to hear results from everyone else that is on the 6 mos. schedule. You are all in my prayers... ccchop! |
