recovery time

Hi,

I had a BM with expanders and 11 nodes taken on May 5.  I am still having some pain everyday and I have not slept in my bed since I came home from the hospital.  I was in severe pain the first 2-3 wks and then I had a previously scheduled apt with my oncologist and when he seen how much pain i was having on my side where the cancer was he had the surgeons nurse drain all the extra fluid and send it for a culture, called the PS and put me on valuim for the night until I could get in to see the plastic surgeon the next day.  I had never taken valuim before but it did not help.  The plastic surgeon said he was going to put more fluid in and try to get the expanders to move off of the nerves and change me to a stronger muscle relaxer.  I also was just taking one pain pill a day at bedtime he wanted me to take them more often so the pain would not get so bad.  I don't take any during the day now but I still take one at bedtime.  I tried one night without it the other night and just took tylenol and I did not get any sleep and I hurt very bad all the next day until I broke down and took a pain pill.  I feel bad because I am still very tired but with my treatment I found out I'm anemic again so im gettting a shot for that again but i still get so tired showering or going for my treatments.  I still have cancer in my liver so my onc. order cts on my liver to make sure it was still the same and it is so I don't know my I am hurting longer and so tired.  I really sympathize with you.  Each fill up seems to help after the first two days of muscle spasms.  I went thru all this for pain management but i have endured so much now that I'm not sure it was worth it.  I really hope your recovery starts to spead up and you get some energy soon.  If it wasn't for the Lord I would have went nuts by now.

hugs,

FACING DOUBLE MASTECTOMY

Hi, I am 34 and Stage IV breast ca.  I have two children.  I was dxd last august, I have went thru chemo, and now I am about to face a double mastectomy but not for the usual reason.  I am facing it for pain relief.  I have been told by the onc., sugeon and ps that this will not extend my life only relieve the pain.  I am hoping they can get the insurance to approve the surgery.  I am a DDD so having this done will be very strange for me, I discussed this with my husband and daughter and most importantly the Lord before making the decision to go ahead.  I hope I am making the right choice.  I just dont know how long the recovery time will take.  I am having expanders put at the same time if everything goes well.  If someone could enlighten me on the recovery time I would appreciate it. Don't give up nancy there is always hope in the Lord.  He has been so very good to me.
