JUNE/JULY GALS????

Hi all,

Deb, I relate to your fatigue issue.  My DH says I snore (have not heard it myselfLaughing) but I know I have been more tired lately.  I am on Arimidex too.  I have had my 6 mo checkup and will have my mammo in Feb.  That's not something I am looking forward to.  I have also been real sore, from the breast up to the armpit.  Onc said I have over done it and to be careful.  Lots of heat & ice and ibuprofen.  That was three weeks ago and it still hurts.  I hope it goes away soon.

Wishing all of you a Happy Thanksgiving.  Remember don't overdo and enjoy.

JUNE/JULY GALS????

Hi all,

A little tired this week, must have done too much again.  I feel that I have had more support from this board than from going to a support meeting somewhere.  Only drawback is that we are all so far apart.  Wouldn't it be fun if we could all get together someday?

Donna, glad to hear that the kitchen is almost done.  Sure would like to see pictures.

Sandy, didn't see the results for your grandson.  Hope everything is ok.

Have a great thanksgiving everyone!

JUNE/JULY GALS????

Hi Guys,

Well I made it!  All 2.5K at the City of Hope Walk for a Cure.  It was a little more that the Onc said to do, told me a mile was good enough, but I did all 1.55 mi.  And, yes I am tired but a good tired.  Hope to stay awake to watch the tv shows I like tonight but if not I can watch them on the computer.

Have a great week in our parallel universe.  Sort of feels like Star Trek.

JUNE/JULY GALS????

Sandy & Donna,

Donna, glad to hear that the mammo was clear.  I agree with you and Sandy about the feeling of all of this not happening.  I seem to lose track of the time spent for surgery then radiation.  Seems like it happened in another time.  Its hard to believe that I just finished rads on July 23 and am just approaching the 5 mo mark.  This is like being in a parallel universe.

Take care

JUNE/JULY GALS????

Hi all,

Donna, glad to hear your 6 mo checkup went well.  I have to go every 3 mo for the first 2 years.  So far so good.  Mammo in Feb.  Hope it doesn't hurt too much.  I have been real sore lately, so sore I thought something was wrong and went in for the checkup a couple of weeks early.  Seems I overdid it and the muscle under the arm and over the chest is really irritated.  So now I think twice before I use my arm.

Sandy, I know your mammo will be just fine.  Have a good time at the party.

Take care all,

Karin in CA

Arimidex - negligible side effects?

I found that acupunture is helping with the side effects, especially the hot flashes.  The acupuncture Dr. also gave me some herbs that I take 2x/day that are supposed to help.  So far the hot flashes are less intense and less frequent.  Also, the burning, itching scalp issue is getting better.  So now its time to get the insurance to approve some more treatments.

Pink: Not just for Pepto Bismol anymore

We have a store in the malls called Torrid.  They have some support breast cancer items. Their slogan is "Save the Ta-Ta's".  I thought it was weird but one of the items was called "Boob Lube".  I don't know why but it sent me into a fit of laughing.  It is an herbal soap to use in the shower to help do a breast exam.  What a gimmick but it was funny.

Study says SE mean hormone therapy is working

I find acupuncture is helping.  The soreness is less each day.  Still flares up a little but doesn't last as long.  Only drawback is no needles on surgery side and the muscle under the arm is what really hurts.

JUNE/JULY GALS????

Hi Sandy,

Onc visit went well.  All blood tests are good and the problem with the muscle is a case of over doing and too deep a massage.  Need to remind myself that I don't heal as quickly as when I was 20.  The acupuncturist gave me some chinese herbs to help with the hot flashes.  My doctor agrees that eastern meds can be good.  I am going to ask for more acupuncture treatments and plan to keep it up as maintenance.  I will start back on the massage for the underarm muscle as soon as it is not so sore.  Have to start heat & ice treatments to ease the tight muscles.

Have a Happy Halloween!

JUNE/JULY GALS????

Hi all,

Donna, so glad to hear your kitchen is almost done.  I think I will try to do my kitchen soon.

Sandy, I relate to the hair.  I quit doing highlights a year ago.  My white looks like a natural highlight and does not hold color.  So it saves money and lets me do other things, plays, theater etc.

I started acupuncture a month ago and it is starting to help.  I have noticed that the hot flashes are getting fewer and when I do have one it is less intense.  I am also using pure Acai juice for energy. I figure I will do anything and everything to fight the beast and feel better doing it.  Today is time to see the Onc for followup.  Been having a problem with the muscles under the arm on surgery side.  I have been stretching and all but it is really sore.  Tried massage but it is not getting better and there is swelling.  So off for a checkup.

Take care,

JUNE/JULY GALS????

Hi all,

Sandy - glad your stress tests are ok.

Gramadeb, I too miss my mom - its four years next month.  I think we will always miss our moms no matter how long.  I am 3 mo out from rads and am fighting the fatigue by doing acupuncture and yoga.  I was able to get a WiiFit and the exercises are as easy or as hard as you want.  I am also walking 1 or 2 nights a week at our park that has a walking path.  I am planning on walking in the City of Hope cancer walk on Nov 9.  Not the 5k but the 2.5k.  I don't have the strength or stamina for the 5k, but I can do the 2.5k. I am doing this not for myself but for all of us who have been through this.  So you can all cheer me on as I do this little walk.  Just having all of you in cyberspace is support enough for me.

Scalp pain from Arimidex?

I have been on Arimidex since May and noticed in late Sept that I had an issue with my scalp.  It started with a burning sensation on both sides of my head.  It sometimes feels like something is pulling my scalp too.  Then it started to look like I had severe dandruff.  I am seeing the dermotologist next week as this is not getting better.  If I get warm from exercising it starts to burn too.  Very uncomfortable.  Hairdresser says there is no thinning so that's good but this other has to stop.

JUNE/JULY GALS????

Great news Sandy.  So glad to hear that you are ok.  I am finding that with the acupuncture I may be tired but I still have some energy coming from somewhere.  Works for me.

Donna, I am envious of your kitchen.  We have been talking about doing it for years but just never get around to it.

 Have a great weekend all

anyone doing accupuncture for hot flashes?

Hi all, I am not on effexor for hot flashes and prefer not to add anymore drugs to my body.  I take Arimidex and read that the acupuncture helped with the hot flashes.  Figured it was a more natural way to go and I just had one treatment last week.  I will have one tomorrow and one Friday.  I only have 7 on this first round and will probably have it extended for 7 more.  I have noticed already that I have had less hot flashes and the ones I have had are less intense.  Maybe it is partly because the weather cooled down and the nights are even cooler.  Whatever the reason I'll take it.  My acupuncturist has 17 years doing this and what in a major hospital in China.  I liked her and felt confident when I first met her.  I have Kaiser as my HMO and they made the referral so I am happy.

JUNE/JULY GALS????

Hi all,

Sandy, I feel the same way.  Weepy, tired etc.  I sometimes feel really angry too, just over stupid little things.  I too have the pains in the breast and where the scar is.  The area that burned is still really sensitive.  Sure am anxious to get past all this.  I see the Onc next month for my 2nd 3mo check up and have my mammo on Feb 4 (my birthday). Oh, happy birthday to me.  Started acupuncture last week.  Read that it is supposed to help so, since the insurance will cover all but $15 co pay I am ready to give anything a shot.  As I am an accountant I have been really busy with all the late tax filers.  One more day and I can start to breathe a little easier.

I sure hope that you are ok and won't be needing another stent. The last few months havereally taken its toll on all of us.  We need a girlfriends weekend away.  Too bad we are so far apart.  I will keep you in my prayers that this heart thing is just a glitch and you will be fine.

Hope all of our other bosom buddies are recovering and starting to get past all of this.

Take care

I have an HMO and it covered it except for a $10 co pay

JUNE/JULY GALS????

Hi all,

Can't believe I am 6 weeks out.  Can't decide if it feels longer or not.  I am tired and usually start falling asleep by 9 on the couch then to bed by 11.  I call it "taking a nap before bed".  I have been so tired that I don't wake up until the alarm goes off and it is hard to get up.  I stagger around the house getting ready for my shower and that helps wake me up but I still feel tired.  My boss too, says "if you need time off let us know so we can try to work around it".  If I do take off  they remind me how hard it was that I was gone doing a real guilt trip thing.  They think they are being nice but in truth they just care about themselves.  The pay is good so I am trying to stick around a bit longer until I can retire.  Maybe I should become a WalMart greeter.  Sure would be less stress.

Have a good weekend all and if you are in the storms path be safe.

Infection/problems after rads?

Hello Wintermoon,

I, too had the same problem only it started about half way thru rads and continued for about 2 weeks after.  I would clean the area with Domeboro solution.  I just soaked a large soft cloth and held it there for a minute then patted dry.  This seemed to take out the burning.  Next I would put on the Biafine (prescription only).  Since I could not use the Biafine more than 2x a day I also had calendula cream. I used my husbands soft white hankies as a cushion under the breast and to also keep it dry.  Later I bought some special burn gel pads and they helped even more. I also cut the sleeves and neck out of my husbands white tshirts and wore those to sleep in.  They have no seams.  I made them like crop tops so that when lying down the air could get to it.

Hope you heal soon, I can feel your discomfort.
