Distended stomach

Hi Tracey,

I had the EXACT same experience. I found that having acupuncture treatment about three days after chemo made a big difference. About an hour after treatment, my system would start to clear out (Thank God!). Activa Yogurt also helped.

I finished chemo about two months ago and the good news is that my stomach is no longer distended - just flabby. Thankfully, I've started to lose the weight I gained.

CMF Question

I just completed CMF and I had a very positive experience - all things considered. I go to an integrative oncologist who prescribed a rigorous regimen of natural supplements. As a result, I had a lot of energy through my 8 week cycle. Amazingly, my immune system remained strong - my kids managed to get both strep throat and the flu and I managed not to get it. I also did not lose my hair, nor did my hair thin.
I did get nauseous for about 4 days after treatment - I basically tried about 5 different meds until I found a combination that worked. If what your friend is taking is not working there are lots of options - not all drugs work for everyone.

Sugar substitutes?

Everything that I've researched suggests that Splenda is not a good idea. There are several all natural sweeteners such as Agave or Xylotol which are much better for you. Personally, I've decided to go back to raw sugar in limited quantities. Good Luck!

Avemar

Hello,

I am 37 and was diagnosed with breast cancer ten months ago. I had a combined breast reduction/lumpectomy, completed 8 cycles of CMF and I am 9 days away from completing my radiation treatment. I started taking tamoxifen about 6 weeks ago and so far so good.

I've been seeing an integrative oncologist who recommended that I take Avemar (fermented wheat germ) to enhance the effectiveness of the Tamoxifen. Has anyone either heard of or tried Avemar? If so, what has been your experience? I was advised to take it every other day and I must admit its a struggle - it taste's terrible!
