Hi Mona,

Okay I hurried over and took a look at your pix. I really like the size, perfect for an athletic girl such as yourself. And actually Mona it's not bad you look pretty good except for the one area. Now I am no doctor, but your situation looks like an easy fix! It seems like alloderm or some lipo suctioned fat would do the trick. I am sure your PS is gonna hook you up. It's not NEARLY as bad as you may think. Keep us posted! And please know the tunnel isn't nearly as long as it was when you first began this journey. Chin up kiddo it's gonna be fine and your are gonna look AMAZING!!!!!!

Hello Ladies and HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

We have alot to be thankful for! Well, here goes my update. After the drains came out I had a little fluid build up on ech side of the expanders (seroma). There was even talk of putting the drains back in, but my PS drained the fluid once and I am happy to report that I no longer have the seroma issue. I am at 350ccs so far and my PS says he will keep giving me fills until he can get me to a C at the exchange. I only get 50ccs a wk and so far that is working out beautifully, not much discomfort, SO FAR. I am hoping to be fully expanded before Christams.

Mona and Annie, I am so sorry that you all are having issues. My PS SWEARS by Alloderm. He says gives a HUGE benefit on so many levels, like holding the implant in place and rippling. I hope he's right! But just know that we have the right to want boobs that we can be satisfied with, so go for it Annie if you want a better boob! Do your research and go for it!

Phyllis, A YEAR!!?? Is your PS taking too many of the drugs she is percribing?? No but seriously that sounds like a long time, and did she not use enough Alloderm in your surgery?? I am sorry to raise questions about her because I in no way mean to disrespect her but it just strikes a nerve with me that you have to go through this. Best wishes to you!

Sandy, I am sooooooooooo glad you are on you way to a beautiful matching set!! YAY!!!

Hi Laura!! I am so glad you are done wih chemo and on your way to recon. When they thought I was going to have to have rads, they told me the same thing that I would need to be FULLY expanded BEFORE rads. Because if I waited the skin would not stretch and it would make recon w/expanders difficult. And depending upon how many ccs they put in at the time of surgery, you can expand pretty darn quick. BTW please keep me posted on rads, they really thought I was going to need it until they got in there and saw a vanished tumor and the few dead cells in the 1 node. So let me know how things go, I will be praying for ya!!

Well ladies have a wonderful day and eat EVERYTHING THATS NOT NAILED DOWN, we derserve it! LOLLaughing

continued Tissue expander pain!!

Amy,

I am soooooo HAPPY for you! I cant wait to get rid of the heavy metal chest plates I have now. I will be getting the gummy bear implants, I think thats the same as what you have and I am sooo looking foward to it. I am at 300ccs now and my PS is gonna try to get me over 500 so I can have a full C. I was a D cup pre op. Thanks for letting us know that there is life after the hard chest plates. Take care and best wishes! Oh BTW do you have to get the drains back in with the exchange??

Positive Obama thread

I feel so blessed to be around to see what has happened in this election. At all the Obama ralleys I went to we always chanted "yes we can" over and over. In the back of my mind I would always be thinking gosh I hope so. To know that I live in a country where the majority was willing to push past the color of ones skin to truly create change makes me proud. Although we have a ways to go, we have come a long way. My 70 yr old mother said she never thought she would live to see this day, and Im glad I got to share it with her. All I have to say about Obama is that greatness has arrived.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

ladysuz,

You are correct my dear, the Africa story broke AFTER the election, correct me if Im wrong but I think it was a day or 2 after, so it had NOTHING to do with the outcome. I think the people that supported the other team just need to realize that America was ready for a change and did not feel like the republican ticket would bring that change. America has spoken loud and clear and change has indeed come.

Hi Laura,

Nice to hear from you! Well the reason my oncologist and the breast surgeon I got the 2nd opinion from dont think I need it is because of the pathology report after the surgery. Clear margins, no invasive cancer cells left, the 1 node with very few cells, and the fact that I had the bilateral surgery. I have had 8 rounds of chemo, herceptin and I will be on tamoxifen. I was told by both my oncology surgeon and my oncologist that I have had a complete response to chemo. They had to rethink rads because they thought they would find more node involvement, but it was just the one. No signs of cancer cells in the other 4 nodes that they removed. I DO NOT WANT RADS!!!!! I am gonna keep my apt next tues and talk to the local rads doc, and later get a 2nd opinion from a rads doc in richmond. Because having a bilateral alone reduces your risk of a LOCAL recurrence, so it will be interesting to find out from him how much more radiation helps. If its just a few % they can keep it! But if its substantial then I will suck it up and do it!!

Surgery was not bad at all!!! It was actually a piece of cake, other than the seroma build up on the sides of each expander, no problems at all!! I will keep ya posted and CONGRATS TO YOU ON THE END OF CHEMO!!! YYYAAAAAAYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh my goodness, it's so funny how the conservatives are sooooooooo ready to judge and point fingers at life styles that they dont agree with. When in actuality they have some of the biggest skeletons in their closets that you ever wanted to lay eyes on. They often use the bible to justify why certain life styles are wrong, but if they truly believed they would let people live their lives and know that God has the final word, NOT THEM!! People in glass houses should not throw rocks!! I mean they frighten me. They would rather have some one who thought Africa was a country leading their nation, all for the sake of being conservative!!Yell Give me a break!! I do LOVE God, and so do millions of gay people but I know that nobody is in a position to judge or dictate what someone chooses to do with and in their life.

Okay so the meeting about radiation took place this morning. My oncologist could not make it because of an emergency. So it consisted of my oncology surgeon, the radiologist and of course the radiation doc. This morning my surgeon's PA calls and says that the decision is, now get this, that they are "leaning" towards radiation. But the radiation doc would like to speak with me. WTF! What does that mean?? Leaning towards!?? I was really upset, after being told I probably wont need radiation to now being told this. Why does he want to speak with me?? I dont get it. I have an apt with him(the radiation doc) next tues. I went to my oncologist's office to talk to her about this "leaning towards" radiation outcome. Since she wasnt at the meeting she couldnt tell me alot. But she did say that when I speak to the rads doc next week I need to ask him what is the recurrence rate both w/wo rads on a person with a bilateral mastectomy. I keep thinking WOW I HAD this 1 little node with a few dead cells. At my oncologist's request I am gonna get a 2nd opinion on the rads. She did say that after I speak with the rads doc if he is still "leaning" towards radiation she would like him to call her. SHe said she needs to understand why. The breast surgeon that i had gotten a 2nd opinion from, the one I spoke with last night said she would be VERY suprised if they wanted me to do rads. It's funny that the only docs that feel I need rads are the rads docs, I dont really know what to make of that. Anyhow, I just wanted to let you all know whats going on. I will meet with the local rads doc on Tues, and I am hoping to go out of town for a 2nd opinion. This journey is something else!Undecided Have a great weekend ladies!!

Hi Sandy and Annie,

Ok so I spoke to the breast surgeon that I got the 2nd opinion from, out of town. I called her on her cell and read her my final pathology report. She said to me that there is ABSOLUTELY no reason for rads! She said that after the meeting tomorrow she would be very suprised if they still say I need rads! My oncologist says she doesnt think I need it either. She will be at the meeting in the morning. So far I have had 8 rounds of chemo, bilateral with recon, herceptin and I have a percription for tamoxifen. They knew about the 1 node at diagnosis, but they thought they were gonna find more at surgery. They were very suprised to find only 1 node with the 6 little DEAD cells. My surgeon said my pathology could not be any better. Also I was told rads are for local reccurrence, well I have nothing there any more but expanders. I realize it is still possible even with a bilateral but the possibility is very low.

Annie thanks for letting me know that rads may not bother the recon. And Sandy I think I will start that thread ASAP. My 2nd opinion doc says that if they are still saying I need it, she will recommend another radiation doc for me to talk to. I love you ladies, you are the best!!!!!

YAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!! ANNIE,

How awesome is that!!! Now you can take a deep breath and relax. I love good news and Im glad it just seems to keep coming!

Okay, so I go to my breast surgeon today not the PS but the breast surgeon to see what they recommend as far as radiation is concerned. My post surgery pathology showed no invasive cancer cells, clear margins, 6 DEAD cancer cells in 1 node. So the invasive cells were dead in situ there was a 1.2cm area that was removed along with the breast tissue, again clear margins. I had a bilateral with immediate recon and pathology shows that the other breast was healthy and was free of cancer. It was my choice to do a bilateral because I wanted to reduce my risk of it coming back. Well when I went to the radiation doc in the beginning before I started chemo he said that because of my age, the 1 node, and the 2.9cm tumor I would definately need radiation. I asked him even with a bilateral and he said yes. So I went and got a 2nd opinion from another radiation doc and she was a strange women, but she said that I would need it because of my age. I went to a surgeon out of town who said I did not need it because I only had 1 positive node! She said the tumor would have to be 5cm with the 1 node or a smaller tumor with more node involvement for me to qualify for radiation. Now since surgery my oncologist says she doesnt feel I need it, so they (surgeon, oncologist, and radiation doc) are gonna have a meeting to discuss what I should do. I DONT WANT IT!!! I dont want to beat a dead horse, but I want to make the best decision to avoid a local recurrence. My head is now spinning again because I have the expanders in and I dont want more issues that the radiation could cause, plus I dont want to go through more than I have to if it's not ABSOLUTELY necessary. I have a feeling that the radiation docs are gonna say I need it. I just dont know who to trust. Is this a case of you go to Midas and you get a muffler or should I get another opinion. I just dont know. The thought of radiation makes me cringe!! UUGGGHHHH!!!!Yell

Okay my melt down is now complete.Smile Thanks for listening. Im glad everyone is doing great. Best wishes to all. Britannia, im glad your doing much better!!

I just have to say what a refreshing change president elect Obama brings! What a breath of fresh air for this country he will bring. I just know that how the world views us changed with this election. I remember when Bush "stole" the election from Gore and 4 years later I was disapointed yet again when Kerry lost his fight. I remember being so depressed and disapointed at how America could be dumb enough to elect Bush AGAIN!! Well now I feel like the last 8 years of torture have all been worth the wait. If we had to go through George Bush to get a leader as hopeful and inspiring as Obama then it was worth it. I would do it all over again,(YUCK, parrish the thought), but if it meant we would end up with greatness then so be it! This election has not only inspired the US but the world as well. And for that I am truly greatful.
