Tests, Treatments & Side Effects + Just Diagnosed, Created: Jul 10, 2008 10:05 am
Sad and scary dayLaura Not to detract from your situation, because believe me it all sucks big time, and this is a sad and scary day for me. I was diagnosed with DCIS in January. I was lucky and did not need rads or chemo. No mastectomy either. Just lumpectomy. They said they got it all, Mine too was er/pr+ so I elected to go ahead with total hysterectomy. Scheduled for Aug 4 which I have now canceled due to new deveopments. Now, July 7th, I get another call that I now have Non Hodgkins Lymphoma. Tell me that ain't a kick in the shorts. Doc also said that there is no cure, only can hope for remission. I am on vacation so I am waiting to go to oncology when I get back, yeah notified while on vacation..... Have not been sleeping well at all. Guess that is normal. So, now that I have ruined my day yet again. (I keep telling myself it is a dream, but it isn't) Guess I will be looking for a message board for that too. Gotta keep your faith though Laura. Faith, family and friends are what you need to get you through. Talk about it as much as you can, that helps some too. You will get through this, my prayers are with you and everyone out there. I am hoping to find some type of counseling here in my area so that I can better deal with what I now have. Take care and the best of luck to you. Cheryl Alaska |

New Here, IntroductionI was told that taking tamoxifin reduced the chance by 7-8% of it recurring, so meaning 92-93% that it will come back... Not good enough odds for the SE's for me! |

Insurance and genetic testingIt was recommended to me that I go to a Genetic councelor, by my breast surgeon.(first visit was provided by the hospital at no charge to me) She went over my history and recommended that I go for the testing. I was told that her summary and my blood was sent to the lab, the lab in turn contacted my insurance, if there were any out of pocket expense (oop) to me the lab would call and tell me how much and I would have to option to go ahead with it or not. If there was no oop to me, they would go ahead and do the testing with no calls to me, and then report back to the genetic counselor. My insurance paid for it. |

NEW TO GROUPI too, am new to this group. My DCIS was found because of bloody nipple discharge.(44yo) My surgeon told me that is is more bothersome than anything and I had nothing to worry about.... That was 1/25/08. Five days later, guess she was wrong. Another lumpectomy on 2/8/08. Now I am torn, tamoxifin, ovaries removed, mastectomy....Risk of it comming back if nothing is done and just wait and see!! No radiation or Chemo was recommended. What to do. Breast cancer is in the family, both sides grandparent, aunts...DCIS grade 2 is all I was told. Had the genetics test done for BRCA1/2 and returned neg. Now do I ask for the BART Test? Just knowing there is a group out there for support is comforting. Thanks Cheryl Alaska |
