Anyone In Phoenix, AZ Area?

Hi all,  looking forward to meeting everyone Monday eve.  Hope to meet those not feeling so well in the future.  I had my expanders removed Monday due to infection, so I'll be toting my drains along with me...ughhh   I feel pretty good although I still get tired quickly.  Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and enjoyed the rain

Hugs, Karen

Hi all.....  I will second Classy Sisters.  It is on the west side but worth the drive.  They also have an excellent selection of scarves and hats. And be sure to contact the ACS, they have wigs for free!

Anyone In Phoenix, AZ Area?

Hi everyone,  This is so exciting and just what I need....I have been fighting the bc blues.  I am 3 weeks post bilat mast, with expanders.  I am not a social coordinator but if no one else has a knack for it, I will try, although Shelle, you sounded great!!!!!  Sometimes a restaurant can be hard to talk to everyone, so lets make sure the setting is open for that kind of communication.  I am happy to open my home up first....I live in Chandler tho and everyone may not want to go that far. I am open to anything, I just dont want to see this dwindle away.  Lets get some ideas rolling!!!!!

Hugs, Karen

How soon did second bc or recurrence happen?

Deemarie, how did they find it in your lungs?  I hate this for all of us, and will keep you all in my prayers

September/October surgeries?

I will be having a bilat mast on Oct 7th with immediate DIEP reconstruction.  I am just finishing up chemo which we did first due to surgery scheduling problems.  It can be tricky getting both surgeons available on the same date.  I am of course anxious, but happy to be moving into the next step. Hey if I can get through chemo, I  can get through the surgery.!!!!!

Hugs, Karen

Well, S#$@^

Hi Diane,  I am on my 3rd of 4 Taxol.....Started with paclitaxol and had excruciating leg pain that could not be controlled with percocet.  Dr considered that to be an allergic reaction and switched me to duclitaxol weekly at a lower dose.  I did great, very very mild SE.  So for tx #3 I thought I would be okay to do the 1 big dose to cover 3 weeks, rather than 3 smaller  weekly doses.   Big mistake, I did not get the bad leg pains, but I got everything else.  Thrush, swollen tongue and throat, cant taste, upset stomach, diarhea, headache....I find it harder than the red devil.  On day 8 after tx I ended up in the hospital with a bladder infection.  That was 3 days ago.  I still do not feel good, but I do feel better.  So my last chemo will be back to the weekly....Physcologically it sounds so much better to say only 1 more, instead of 3 more...but I have learned my lesson.  At least the docs can make adjustments.   And remember we all respond differently.  You might do just fine.  Best of luck with it!

Karen

Helen, I am sorry I do not understand your post.  Could you please try again.

Sandy, dont beat yourself up while in Vegas.  I agree with Sharon, You should enjoy the good times with your family and battle the battles later.  You have earned it!

anyone have DIEP-lose weight=how did it affect your foobs

Thank you for all the input...I will be meeting with my ps in a few weeks and will discuss it with her then.  I just feel torn...I do NOT want to wake up with out boobs, and DIEP was the recommended option.  She did not think I would be happy with implants as they could not get the same proportion I have now.  I am only a D, but have a large frame, and plenty of belly fat for D mounds.  I would like to lose 50 pounds but would hate to see my new mounds disappear!!!!!  After all her handiwork and recovery etc.... My surgery is scheduled for Oct 7th....I will post again after I meet with her again.  Thanks again my  bc sisters!

I will be having bilat mast in Oct..with immediate DIEP reconstruction.  Im just wondering if anyone has lost weight after reconstruction and how it affected the new foobs....My ps says yes they can become smaller.  I am a D and would like to stay a D....so I thought I would ask my sisters out there who may have been there and done that.

Hugs all, Karen

Laid Off...now what do I do??

Thank you ladies for all you suggestion and encouragement.  I am not normally whiny.  I just felt like I was kicked in the teeth again!!!  I feel more optimistic today.  I know there are many other options out there.

Estepp...if I lived near you, I would be in your shop right now!!!

BadBoob...you are sooooo right, I may find something I like better.  By the way I must tell you a funny story.  Shortly after I was dx, I was in the shower and looked down at my breasts.  I began signing that song..Bad boy bad boy whatchya gonna do.......only I changed it to bad boob - bad boob, whatchya gonna do whatchya gonna do when they come for you!!!!   I laughed so loud my dh came in to see what was going on!

Thanks again ladies, it helps knowing I can come here and be understood

Hugs, Karen

Laid Off...now what do I do??

I was laid off Friday because the business was failing.  I worked in the travel industry and really enjoyed my job.  I rarely thought about the bc and felt like I still had a normal life.  Now what???  I have my last dose of A/C next week, then 2 months of Taxol, and then bi-lat mast.  Chemo days are an all day affair, and I usually miss 1 additional day.  The surgery will put me out for a while.  Hard to imagine anyone wanting to hire someone with that baggage.   I am so depressed at the thought of being at home alone day after day.   DH is very supportive and able to support us.  I know I should be grateful for that.  Dont get me wrong, I am grateful for all my blessings, but working made it easier to deal with this crap.  I feel like I just cant get a break.  How do the rest of you deal with the isolation and sense of doom?

Hugs to all

Starting Chemo May 2008

Hi to All,

I will be starting chemo May 22nd....I am just glad to get going.  Was dx in Mar and wont have surgery till after chemo....Surgery was rescheduled for July but I dont want to wait any longer....so we are doing chemo first.

Sounds like a long hot summer ahead.  Dont know if I want a wig or not.... maybe better to get it and not use it, than to want it and not have it.  Nothing is easy about any of this. I am glad to have all of you here, altho I wish none of use were here!  Have a good weekend

Karen

Military Cancer Care

Hi to all, my dh is retired army.  We have standard tricare west.  I have not had any trouble.  I am seen at the Mayo Clinic.  I just came from a wig store where I  was told that tricare will even cover wigs.   Of course  you pay up front and then wait to be reimbursed.  I have not verified yet but she gave me the codes....hair loss diagnosis  70409  and the billing code is A 9282.

It sure doesnt take long to reach that catastrophic cap does it!!!!!

God bless the usa and her soldiers

abdominal ooph and hyst recovery time

I just went through that in Feb.  My gyn oncol  told me I could drive as soon as I was off pain meds, which was only about 5 days.  I went home the day after surgery and returned to work the 3rd week on a part time basis as I was still tired.  I hope your procedure goes smoothly and quickly!!!!

Be Positive!!!! (shuuut up!)

Hi all... I was dx about a month ago and have bilat mast w/immediate diep scheduled May 13th.  I have been trying to explain this very thing to my dh.  Last weekend we attended a family event.  We have a large family...I was getting so angry because certain family members who normally would not give me the time of day, now act so concerned.  I wanted to scream!!! Just treat me the same as you always have.  I did not want to make anyone uncomfortable or hurt their feelings so I said nothing.  But what about my feeling that it is all so phony. I love some of the comebacks you ladies have mentioned and I may have to start using them.  It sure helps to know someone gets it.Hugs to All
