Lumpectomy - what to expect

Thanks Anne, Hoping for good results and then my radiation. Any of you ladies give me advice on leaving my port in after chemo? Will I still need blood drawn for three month checks? I guess maybe the best thing is to leave it in for a year?

Thanks to all of you who have helped get me though this. :)

Lumpectomy - what to expect

Thanks for the great description of events. Kind of like I figured. Have you received your results back from the lumpectomy? I hope all is well.

Have you had chemo? If so, did you leave your port in?

Thanks again for the heads-up on surgery.

Lumpectomy - what to expect

How many chemo sessions have you been through? I hope all is well after yours were completed. I'm so glad to have that part over with.

I just can't decide what to do about the port. If it weren't for the flushing every 6-8 weeks, I wouldn't mind leaving it in, but that is going to be cumbersome for a year or more. What are your thoughts?

Lumpectomy - what to expect

I finished chemo on the 23rd and am also having a wire-assisted lumpectomy on the 12th. I'm curiuous as well.

Also, would love advice on whether or not to leave the port in. My doctor is kind of leaving it up to me and I just don't know what to do???

Anyone starting chemo in Aug. 08?

I had most of the same tests you did and felt the same way. It seemed like I wasn't moving forward and I was actually anxious to get the chemo started. I am just had my 3rd round of Doxorubicin and cytoxan last Thursday and have one more round then on to taxotere.

I'm so glad you are getting the ball rolling and I wish you the best.

I need some prayers

I'm just new at this, but my prayers are with you. I'm just at the beginning of all this, and reading these comments is making me feel so much better.

Lots of love and hugs (and prayers) are going your way.

My head is spinning!

Can anyone give me any ideas about where to start looking for a wig should I need one? Will the doctors have resources?  Also, have you gals been able to work while taking the chemo?

My head is spinning!

Thanks for the calming ideas. I found out that I'm having chemo first and then the lumpectomy so I'm really one of the lucky ones.

I'm having the port put in, lymph nodes removed and the marker clips inserted on June 4th and then the chemo begins. That scares me, but since everyone seems to handle it differently, I will just wait and see.

Thanks so much for your support. It really means so much.

My head is spinning!

Thanks for the great advice. It sure helps having the support. I've found that out already. I think once I know the results and which way to go with the treatment I'll be better.

I wake up at night with my heart racing. It helps to know others have gone thru this and have come out on "the other side" stronger and a lot wiser. :)

My head is spinning!

I was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma a week ago today. I have two tumors in my right breast about 2mm each. We still don't have all of the test results back so I don't know if the tumors can be shrunk with chemo or if I'll lost the breast. I've already seen the oncologyst and surgeon, but without those last results (Her-2) for one - we're still in limbo. My only daughter's wedding is on the 23rd and the good news is I will get to attend before any surgery is done.

I know that I will have to have a chemo pump and that really scares me. I still don't know what to do. I will probably try to save my breast if they think the tumors can be shrunk but then there's the radiation to follow chemo.

There's been so much information thrown my way in the past week that my head is spinning. I don't know what to expect with the chemo. I've heard of women who went back to work and didn't miss a day and others who were miserable. I plan to fight the fight, but I'm still really scared.

Thanks for listening out there!
